Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: This can only be my luck

Omniscient Reader P.O.V:

In a quiet part of the city, there is a modest apartment with the windows closed. The space, although simple, is decorated with warmth and reflects the personality of the only person present.

Inside, a young man of about 26 years old, with brown hair and a thoughtful expression, reviews documents on his desk, although it is difficult for him to see clearly, he still kept the curtains closed. He sighs deeply and murmurs:

"Now that I have everything I wanted, but…"

"Why do I feel so empty?"

Despite his apparent success, the young man's life had been marked by years of incessant effort. From a very young age, he had drawn a clear path towards his goals. With determination, he sacrificed outings, friendships and simple moments to achieve what others could only dream of: a solid career, economic stability and an organized life.

He worked as a programmer in a company that valued his talent. Every day, as he sat down at his computer, he enjoyed creating and solving creative challenges. However, over time, that satisfaction had turned into a routine, a predictable cycle that barely excited him.

His personal relationships were not what he imagined either. He had spent so much time building his career that he had neglected the important people in his life. Although he had always justified his decisions with the phrase "there will be time for that," now the silence of the apartment made him question whether there truly would be time for that.

There was one peculiarity in his life that had always puzzled him: he seemed to be trapped in an unusual cycle of extreme luck. There were days when everything worked out in an almost magical way, as if the universe conspired in his favor. Unexpected emails arrived with good news, he got absurd discounts at stores or even found money in strange places. At those times, he felt unstoppable, as if he had a lucky star hanging over his head.

But that peculiarity had a dark side. Other days, it seemed like life was turning against him. His drinks spilled, he forgot important things in the middle of an exam, the simplest projects got complicated, and sometimes he even had minor accidents, like the one time when a crack suddenly opened in the floor, causing him to fall in. It took three hours to get him out. As if all the accumulated karma decided to hit at once

That strange alternation of good and bad luck had marked his life for as long as he could remember. For a long time, he had taken it as a curiosity, a peculiar phenomenon that gave flavor to his existence. But lately, those extremes made him wonder if there was something more behind it, as if the chaos surrounding him was a reflection of something he himself did not fully understand.

One afternoon, after one of those days when everything had gone wrong, he dropped onto the couch with a tiredness that went beyond the physical. "Could it be that this luck has something to teach me?" he wondered as he watched the evening light illuminate his apartment. Deep down, he knew that it wasn't just about the good or bad days. It was his way of dealing with those situations that really shaped his life. And while that answer seemed simple, he couldn't help but feel like something was still missing.

That night, as silence filled the apartment, the young man decided to go out. He felt like he needed a change of scenery, even if it was brief, and he took advantage of the excuse that his pantry was almost empty. He put on a light jacket and headed out to the convenience store on the corner.

The cool night air helped clear his mind a bit. The city seemed asleep, but there were still flashes of life in the neon lights of the nearby stores.

When he got to the checkout, something strange happened. The clerk, a middle-aged woman with a friendly attitude, looked at him and said:

"Congratulations, you get a 30% discount offer on three items of your choice."

The young man raised his eyebrows, surprised, but he thanked her with a smile as he gathered his things. As he left the store, the contrast of his life hit him again. "Lucky day?" he thought.

He packed his food into his backpack, feeling that maybe this day wasn't as bad as it seemed.

As he left the store, still carrying his backpack, something caught his eye. A few feet away, a small child was staggering toward the road. The mother, distracted searching for something in her bag, hadn't noticed the danger. The distant sound of an engine revving up made the young man feel the adrenaline rush through his body.

It all happened in a matter of seconds. As the truck sped closer, just a few feet away, he launched himself at the child, pushing him to the side. He felt the rush of wind from the vehicle brush past, accompanied by a deafening roar that faded as he hit the ground beside the little boy. They both lay on the pavement for a moment, the young man's heart pounding uncontrollably. He turned to the boy, whose wide, tear-filled eyes reflected confusion and fear.

"Are you okay?" he asked in a broken voice, struggling to catch his breath.

The mother came running, tears streaming down her face as she hugged the boy tightly.

"Thank you, thank you! I don't know how to thank you—you saved his life!" she said, her voice shaking with emotion.

The young man, still shaken from the close call, smiled weakly at her.

"I just did what anyone would have done," he replied, trying to steady himself.

As the mother continued to thank him, a sudden, thunderous roar echoed from above. A blinding flash lit up the street, and in an instant, a bolt of lightning struck the young man directly. The impact hurled him to the ground, leaving the air eerily silent, broken only by the mother's horrified screams and the gasps of passersby who had witnessed the scene.

With his body still smoking and his muscles numb from the pain, the young man opened his eyes slightly. A faint, ironic smile crossed his face as he whispered, almost humorously:

"This can only be my luck…"

And with those final words, his life slipped away, leaving those present frozen in a mix of astonishment and sorrow. The silence returned, punctuated by the mother's inconsolable sobs. The flickering lights of the store cast an eerie glow over the scene, as if even the world itself struggled to comprehend what had just transpired.
