Chapter 2 - Fresh

The sun was higher in the sky, casting warm light through the blinds. His eyes fell on the digital clock on the desk, 7:00 am. The date still read March 23, 2187.

"This is my second chance," Auron said, the VR console beside him, ready to launch [Heaven's Reach.]

Leaning forward, Auron placed the neural-sync goggles on his head, securing the straps. "Heaven's Reach, here I go."

The console powered on. The screen transitioning from black to a title screen.

---

<<"WELCOME TO HEAVEN'S REACH!">>

Auron stared at the game's menu, where the prominent option "Game Start" awaited. He clicked it, triggering a secondary prompt that allowed him to name his character and customize several appearance settings for his in-game avatar.

Among the options, Auron chose to adjust his facial features to reflect a 15% difference from his real-life appearance.

Players could also tweak other attributes, such as hair color, eye color, and minor physical traits, or even opt to retain their real-world features entirely.

After finalizing his character's appearance, the next prompt appeared, requiring Auron to select a class, the options given being, "Swordsman", "Ranger", "Mage", and "Healer." Players can only switch to classes compatible with their current class during the game quests. A Paladin can switch from a Swordsman, and a Ranger can change from an Assassin through quests.

Auron knows of a secret glitch that has been patched in his previous life. Just beside the class-selection panel, an almost imperceptible small dot was visible. By quickly pressing the dot in a specific rhythm, Auron could bypass the class system and pick the option of "No Class Assigned".

Why would anyone choose to have no class? Most players had dismissed the option as useless, restarting their accounts immediately after discovering it, but Auron knew better.

This obscure choice came with a hidden advantage: the ability to unlock Combat Techniques.

Combat Techniques were a legendary aspect of the game, techniques so advanced that only the top-tier geniuses of huge guilds had ever managed to create their own, which can be only counted on one hand in the entire lifetime of the game.

Most were found during late-game epic or legendary quests, written on ancient tablets that detailed the techniques for players to learn. These techniques were ranked by rarity. Trash, Bronze, Copper, Iron, Gold, and the nearly mythical Legendary.

Even for experienced players, mastering Combat Techniques was nearly impossible, requiring practice beyond the average player's reach even on bronze.

Players can only make a compatible technique if they receive a hint from the tablets, which in the early stages of the game, they were virtually unattainable, which was why the 'No Class' glitch had gone unnoticed by most. It was patched only months after its discovery, long before players realized its real potential.

For Auron, this glitch was critical. As a regressor, he didn't need to struggle through the learning process. He had already mastered dozens of Combat Techniques in his past life, memorizing it by reflex. With 'No Class', he could activate these techniques freely.

Auron began pressing the hidden dot, carefully repeating the rhythm he remembered.

The screen changed, and the [No Class] option appeared. A grin spread across his face. "Perfect, let's see Worldsinger try to stop me now."

In the original game mechanics, players were first given the option to choose a continent and then select a city within that continent. After making their choice, the game would randomly assign them to a specific town within the chosen city.

However, because Auron activated the glitch, this selection process was bypassed entirely. Instead of choosing a continent and city, Auron was immediately assigned to a completely random town.

Auron opened his eyes to one the starting hubs of Heaven's Reach: Auriel's Moon Continent, Petal Blue Town.

NPCs moved through the cobbled streets with realistic physics, while players darted between vendors and training grounds.

Auron didn't pay attention to the other players. With a slight wave, the Attribute Panel appeared before him.

Auron's hand instinctively opened the inventory menu. Empty. Not even the basic starter equipment. Not even one copper.

"Back to square one."

Auron's objective was clear. The game had numerous quests and branching paths, but there were two questlines he remembered clearly. Ones that had changed the course of his career.

'Ancient Covenant Hidden Class' and 'Beastmaster's Bond Hidden Class'

The first had made him a strong enemy in combat, unlocking a hidden Abysswalker class. The second had been his trump card, granting him the ability to tame and command beasts. It was this class that had propelled [Sunlight] to prominence.

The problem was that both questlines required knowledge and high standards for combat techniques, skilled players would barely be able to get both.

Auron's feet carried him through Petal Blue Town, ignoring the activity around him.

Heaven's Reach follows a unique time system. In-game daytime mirrors reality, but every three in-game hours equates to one real-world hour. The in-game day lasts 30 hours, while the night lasts 15 hours.

However, a future update is set to change this: when the game transitions, night in the real world will correspond to day in the game, allowing players to continue playing even while asleep.

This shift aimed to appeal to casual players, expanding the player base beyond just hardcore gamers. At present, Heaven's Reach remains relatively obscure, especially since many VR games allow players to interact while they sleep, attracting only the most dedicated gamers or a niche group interested in more obscure VR games.

Knowing that the game will soon update, Auron plans to play non-stop for the next 30 days, to gain the most advantages during this limited window of time.

At the moment, only a few players wander the game world, some speaking to NPCs for quests, others hunting low-level monsters in the fields. It's just the first 30 minutes of the game, and the world is still quiet.

Auron crossed the main square, moving toward an alley, behind the 'Average Archives' a useless library, barely containing anything than the already given lore from the game.

The path was narrow, and at the end of the alley, a faint glint appeared on the ground. A crack in the cobblestone no larger than a coin.

Originally, some random homie discovered this quest by reading through numerous books and solving mind-boggling puzzles in his previous life. Now, the MC will benefit from that homie.

Auron crouched, reaching out with his hand. "The trigger point," With a motion, he pressed his hand against the crack, but nothing happened.

Auron's lips tightened. "Come on... I remember this." He struck the crack again, this time holding his hand against it for five seconds. A faint vibration beneath his palm. The shimmer expanded, showing a hidden prompt.

Without hesitation, he selected

The screen shifted, and the surrounding environment dissolved. The streets of Petal Blue Town faded, replaced by a dimly lit room of stone and iron. The air felt heavy, as though the game itself was warning him to turn back.

In the center of the chamber stood a monolithic pedestal, etched with glowing runes. Above it floated a translucent scroll, then a notification popped up.

<

Auron's lips curled into a smile. "Still here. They didn't patch it out in this version."

Approaching the pedestal, he examined the runes. They depicted celestial beings locked in battle with shadowy figures. An allegory for the war between the 'Empyreans' and the 'Abyssal Lords,' part of the game's lore.

A prompt appeared:

<>

The Oath was to unlocking a dual-class system. Auron didn't hesitate. He selected

The scroll descended, wrapping around his character's body like a cocoon. His vision dissapeared as a torrent of information poured into his mind. A new notification flashed:

<>

<>

<>

The Abyss class is a double-edged sword option that comes with unique mechanics. Its primary drawback is a severe penalty: upon the player's first death, their stats are permanently halved upon respawn.

This makes the class unappealing to most players, especially novices, as they lack the skill and resources to survive effectively after a crippling loss.

Additionally, the class comes with another dangerous feature, anyone who kills an Abyss-class player gains the Abyss class for themselves, effectively stealing it. Making the player a target for experts.

However, what makes the Abyss class so coveted is its rarity and its ability to grant dual-class functionality, allowing players to combine its unique abilities with those of another class.

As the scroll dissipated, the chamber began to crumble. Stone blocks fell from the ceiling, and cracks spread across the walls.

A deep voice boomed through the chamber:

"You have chosen the shadowed path. May it lead you to glory... or despair."

<>

The ground beneath him breaking apart, plunging Auron into darkness. The sensation of falling was brief. He landed right where he dissapeared, in the alley.

A message popped up in his interface:

<>

Auron smirked, flexing his fingers as he opened the skills menu. Rows of locked abilities lined the screen, only the first skill was already unlocked.

<>

Testing it, Auron vanished from his spot, reappearing ten feet away. The shadow left in his wake pulsed once before dissipating.

Auron turned and made his way toward the monster grind area, a zone where level three monsters dropped basic gear. It was the perfect place to gear up after testing his skills.
