Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Kicked

The lazy figure in bed turned over, one arm softly wrapping around a man's sturdy waist. Her little head rested on his chest, nuzzling in to find a comfortable sleeping position before drifting off again.

"Don't scratch me... it tickles... cake, stop messing around."

Half-asleep, Cold Xiaoyao felt as if her pet dog was nudging her face. Childishly, she turned her head to the side and pouted.

When Han Chenyu woke up that morning, this lovely scene greeted him. Cold Xiaoyao's arm was around his waist, her head on his chest, her large eyes tightly shut, and her long eyelashes slightly curled, making her look like a delicate doll.

Although he knew he should push her away, he found himself enchanted, gently stroking her small face, which caused her to furrow her brows lightly.

Unable to resist the beauty before him, Han Chenyu leaned in to plant a soft kiss on her rosy lips.

"Wahhh!"

Cold Xiaoyao could no longer sleep. She woke up to see a dark head hovering above her.

She wanted to push this man away, but with no alcohol in her system, she lacked the strength and couldn't budge him at all. So, she resorted to flailing her arms and legs in a desperate struggle.

"Ah! You nasty woman! Are you trying to murder your husband?"

It turned out that Cold Xiaoyao had accidentally kicked Han Chenyu in a very sensitive area, causing him to immediately let go of her and roll around on the bed in pain.

"Who taught you to steal kisses from me!"

Seeing Han Chenyu in genuine discomfort, Cold Xiaoyao started to worry. Did she kick him too hard? If he couldn't perform in the future, would she become the eternal sinner of the Han family?

Lost in thought, she cautiously moved closer. "Han Chenyu, are you alright?"

"If you kick me any harder, I'll be useless!"

"I'm really sorry! But who told you to steal a kiss so early in the morning?"

Feeling a bit better, Han Chenyu leaned against the headboard, gasping as he said, "You're my wife now. Isn't it okay for me to kiss you?"

"That was a fake marriage!"

"Is that so? Then please show me the marriage certificate that has your name on it in big, red letters."

"You... you... that was your handsome scheme!"

"And we're supposed to be getting a divorce a year from now."

Han Chenyu shot back, "But right now, you are my wife," and then headed into the bathroom to wash up.

Fuming, Cold Xiaoyao gritted her teeth and started pounding the comforter beneath her like it was him.

"Stop beating up that poor comforter and come wash up. Then go make me breakfast."

"Do you have x-ray vision?"

Wait, hold on, he just told her to make him breakfast?

"Why should I make you breakfast? I've always only been responsible for eating, not cooking!"

Han Chenyu thought for a moment, realizing that asking a pampered young lady like her to cook was probably a bad idea. If he ate her cooking, he'd probably end up with an upset stomach. Forget it; he'd handle it himself.

"Hurry up and wash up; if you take more than ten minutes, there will be no food left."

As he spoke, he walked towards the kitchen.

"You can cook?! Aren't you a CEO? And you can cook?"

Cold Xiaoyao stared in disbelief at his retreating figure, unable to comprehend.

"What's so strange about that? I cooked for myself during my years studying in the U.S."

Thinking back to those days when he had studied and lived with "her," a bittersweet feeling washed over him.

Didn't "she" say she was head over heels for him and would only marry him? And yet, look what happened—she left him and never looked back.

"Han Chenyu, what are you thinking about?"

Cold Xiaoyao watched as he fell into deep thought, a self-deprecating smile creeping onto his face. She was trying to show him some genuine concern for once.

"Nothing. We'll eat soon, and then we'll go to the hospital to see my mom."

"Oh."

Cold Xiaoyao replied absentmindedly while watching Han Chenyu skillfully crack eggs, fry them, plate them, and blend vegetables into juice.

"I thought you were just bragging; I didn't expect you to actually know how to cook!"

She recalled Lulu once telling her that the best measure of a good man was whether he could cook. Looking at this man, who usually acted so arrogant, she couldn't believe he actually met the criteria for a good man.

"Of course! You're only the second person to eat my cooking."

As Han Chenyu plated the food, he answered her, feeling a sense of pride swell within him as he noticed the way she looked at him with admiration and surprise.

"Who was the first person to eat your cooking?"

Unexpectedly, her casual question made Han Chenyu's expression darken. He impatiently replied, "That's none of your business. Just eat!"

Cold Xiaoyao had no idea what was bothering him and could only mumble "weirdo" under her breath as she focused on her meal.
