Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: No Need for His Company?

"Hey, hurry up and eat, or it'll get cold. I won't laugh at you; instead, I'll feel proud."

"What's there to be proud of? It's just a meal."

Cold Xiaoyao grumbled defiantly, but she couldn't resist grabbing her chopsticks and digging in with gusto.

"Mmm! This is so delicious! It's better than anything I've ever eaten! Han, you should consider quitting your job as CEO and becoming a chef; I guarantee you'll have customers lined up every day."

As she praised Han Chenyu between bites, she couldn't help but think that while he might be a little arrogant, his cooking was so good it almost made her forget to chew.

"Then eat more!"

"Why does that sound like a commercial?"

Han Chenyu elegantly ate his meal, observing the not-so-graceful way she was devouring her food. Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind: *Maybe this lifestyle isn't so bad after all. Coming home every day to a little wife waiting for him, cooking together, and watching her devour the dishes he made—it gave him a sense of... happiness.*

Happiness? Why was he thinking like that?

"Ah! I'm full! I feel so stuffed. It's been ages since I've eaten like this!"

"Does your family not feed you?"

Unable to resist teasing her, he wanted to see her annoyed reaction. Was this considered a guilty pleasure?

"Your family doesn't feed you!"

As expected, she bared her teeth like a little cat. "Me eating your food is a courtesy to you; you should feel honored, got it?"

After finishing her meal, Cold Xiaoyao remembered something important. "Han, I'm going home tomorrow. I haven't been back in a long time."

"Okay, I'll go with you."

"No need! You're busy, right? I can go back by myself, really!"

While washing the dishes, Han Chenyu shot her a scrutinizing look. "Why? Are you afraid I'll embarrass you in front of your parents?"

"It's not like that! Who knows what you might say to them?"

As soon as Cold Xiaoyao said this, she noticed the familiar cold aura radiating from Han Chenyu, just like when she first met him. *Uh-oh,* she thought. She had almost forgotten about his other, darker side after spending time with him. But what had she done to provoke him?

"Hey, you... don't come any closer! I mean... let's go back together, okay?"

Han Chenyu trapped Cold Xiaoyao between himself and the sofa, his expression angry, though he didn't even know why he was so upset.

"Cold Xiaoyao, I thought we had been getting along well these past few days, and you understood me. But now it seems that's not the case."

Cold Xiaoyao pushed against his chest in fear, only to have her hand caught in his. His hand was large and rough, while hers was small and delicate, creating a stark contrast.

"Hey, Han, I didn't mean anything by it. Let go of me; you're hurting me!"

Cold Xiaoyao was dismayed to find her resistance against him weakening. Whenever he got close, her heart raced uncontrollably, beating so loudly it felt like it would leap out of her throat. What was happening to her?

To Han Chenyu, her panicked expression was oddly appealing. Her flushed cheeks, rosy lips, and delicate nose made him want to lean in closer.

"Why are you afraid to look at me, Xiaoyao?"

"Don't come so close; you're stealing all the oxygen!"

Feeling his handsome face inching closer, Cold Xiaoyao thought she might suffocate.

"This is how I take your oxygen away."

"Mmmph!"

Before she realized it, Han Chenyu had kissed her.

That familiar, magical sensation flooded back. Cold Xiaoyao wanted to push him away but found her hands trapped. All she could do was whimper. Why did this annoying man keep kissing her?

Slowly, her mind turned to mush.

Han Chenyu himself was puzzled by his actions. The first kiss had been an accident, and the second one—the morning after their wedding—had been impulsive. But this time? Why did he want to kiss her? And the closer he got, the stronger the urge became.

But at that moment, he didn't have time to ponder those questions; all he wanted was to kiss this feisty little cat in front of him. Her taste was maddeningly good, making him crave more.

"Mmmph!" She was almost out of breath!

Finally, when Cold Xiaoyao could no longer breathe, Han Chenyu released her. "Didn't anyone teach you that you need to breathe while kissing?"

"You never taught me! How would I know?" Cold Xiaoyao pushed him away with a swift motion and dashed toward the bedroom.
