Chapter 15 - WHEN WILL IT BE PERFECT?

It was Mrs. Zachary's funeral. Kaylee had made up her mind not to cry. All she wanted to do was drive Allen out of her mother's home. Everyone was dressed in black. Kaylee sat on a stool beside her mother's coffin, watching as unknown people cried over her mother's death.

She was amazed by how s_ocial her mom was, and how many people had turned up to pay their respects. Many came to offer their condolences, giving her advice she didn't want to hear.

"Now it's just you and your father. No female in the house to lecture you on your femininity," Aunty Helen, her mother's closest gossiping friend, said.

Kaylee was surprised to see even people she had wronged attend the funeral. Had they come to m_ock her? The first time Kaylee felt a surge of fear was when Mr. Warren, her dance coach, and his daughter Vivienne Warren walked towards her. Kaylee's eyes widened, and she thought they had come to m_ock her.

She stood up from the stool, ready to run away, but Allen was standing at the door post, blocking her way.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Mr. Warren said, opening his arms to hug her. His embrace was warm and confronting.

"I'm also sorry," Vivienne said, a tear dropping from her eye.

In that moment, Kaylee realized how st_upid and p_athetic people could act when they lost someone, neglecting how badly that person had treated them when they were alive.

Philip came to the funeral, and Kaylee saw how Allen had refrained from giving him a p_nch. He had the guts to come to the burial of the mother of the girl he had tried to r_pe just a few days ago.

Her daddy's relatives came, both her biological daddy and Allen. That reminded her of her biological dad, who was supposed to be there but was out of the country, flexing his new wife.

Kaylee felt disappointed, and a big lump came to her throat, but she swallowed it back. She must not cry. Allen must not see her cry.

"Why do I feel this way? It's not ordinary. I hope it's not what I'm thinking. Heavens! She's my daughter!" Allen's head screamed in his thoughts.

"I wonder if falling in love with him is evil," Kaylee thought. "After all, I fell for him when I hadn't known."

As they were about to take her mom to the grave, Kaylee started saying her last words to her mom.

"Mom, Dad did not attend your funeral. It's just me and your husband you left me with. Thank God you know that. I will try to be the good girl you wanted me to be and try to make the feelings I have for him fade away." She paused, "Jeez! What am I saying? I'm so cr_zy. Okay, Mom, wherever you are now, I just want you to know that I'm okay, and I will be successful. Success is not found only by taking dance classes. I will study abroad and prove my capability to you. Goodbye."

Kaylee realized that something had captured the crowd's attention. It was someone. Kaylee stretched her neck to see who it was.

She couldn't see clearly, so she waited as people gave way for the centre of attraction.

"Black shoes, black quality office suit. Sunglasses, he took them off. He was Dad. Biological dad. Why on earth did he dress like he was going to an afternoon dinner party, if it even exists?"

A lady in a red gown and black mink stood beside him, obviously his new wife.

"Dad," She muttered, her voice barely audible. "Hello, Kay!" Dad was so tall that he had to squat a little before he could give her that supernatural hug she always asked for years ago, each time he came back home from work.

"Daddy!!!!!!!!!!!" She hugged him tightly, feeling a rush of joy and excitement.

That joy injection was injected into her spine, and she felt the remains rush down her stomach and turn into butterflies that flew all over the walls.
