Chapter 8 - Task Reward

Soon, a slightly hunched figure arrived upon hearing the news.

"Mr. Eight God, this is Master Ye Yan, a Level 5 Beastmaster who oversees the Beast Department at the Black Market of Light City. Master Ye will be inspecting whether the Silverhorn Cow has successfully evolved," the attendant introduced.

Kent nodded outwardly but was secretly startled. He hadn't expected his first mission to attract a Level 5 Beastmaster.

Wasn't he supposed to keep a low profile?

"It's just a simple task to evolve a Bronze Beast into a Silver one, yet it seems to have bothered Master Ye. My apologies," Kent said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Master Ye Yan hummed in response, casting Kent a few proud glances. Kent was right, this low-level task wouldn't normally be enough to warrant his attention. However, the reported details were so absurd that his curiosity got the best of him, and he couldn't resist coming over to see for himself. Naturally, he hoped that the staff had made a mistake. After all, Kent's abilities were so impressive that even Master Ye himself couldn't achieve them. If it turned out to be true, it would be quite the embarrassment.

His gaze soon settled on the Silverhorn Cow. The cow had grown from nearly three meters tall to over five meters, with its massive body exuding the powerful aura of a Silver Beast.

"Indeed, it has successfully evolved," Master Ye said after some contemplation, his tone now more respectful.

"Beastmaster Eight God, it seems this is your first time at the underground Black Market. I must ask, how did you manage to accomplish this with such ease?"

Kent's expression changed. This was a bit too much. He couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed as he replied, "As the saying goes, heroes don't ask about origins. It's my secret, and it's not something I can easily disclose."

Did he think he could bully him just because he was a newcomer?

Kent sneered inwardly. He didn't want to be treated as a rookie.

Master Ye Yan's eyes flickered with slight embarrassment. Although he was a master, directly pressing others for answers wasn't exactly polite. He shook his head. "Apologies, I got carried away. Please don't be offended."

Without waiting for Kent to respond, Master Ye turned and walked away, his demeanor once again regal.

"Mr. Eight God, please don't mind him. Master Ye Yan's temper is like that; he's not a bad person," the attendant hurriedly explained.

"I understand. People with great abilities often have eccentric personalities," Kent smiled. "By the way, may I ask your name?"

The attendant was slightly surprised, realizing Kent was truly new. She pointed to the engraving on her mask and smiled. "My codename is Xiao Wei. You can just call me Xiao Wei, Mr. Eight God."

"Alright, Xiao Wei, may I now collect my task reward?" Kent asked, instinctively touching his nose, feeling a little embarrassed.

"Of course, please follow me." She flashed a smile.

Back in the task hall, Xiao Wei whispered to the staff member named 'Lu Jia,' "Mr. Eight God has completed his task and is here to collect his reward."

Lu Jia had already received the notification. After confirming Kent's identity, he immediately transferred the reward, adding 15,100 credit points to Kent's identity bracelet, with the remainder being the task deposit.

"Lu Jia, I've been notified that my Silverhorn Cow has leveled up?"

At that moment, a middle-aged man wearing a wolf-head mask and the codename 'Spring Dawn' walked over, laughing heartily.

Kent paused and turned to see the owner of the Silverhorn Cow.

Spring Dawn? What a peculiar name. Isn't he worried about being mocked?

Lu Jia pointed to Kent and said, "Spring Dawn, you arrived rather quickly. This is the Beastmaster Eight God who evolved your beast."

Spring Dawn seemed surprised to encounter Kent, but quickly walked over and extended his hand, smiling broadly. "Mr. Eight God, I truly appreciate your help. My little Yue'er really enjoys the milk from Silver, but recently, Silver's milk quality has decreased, causing Yue'er to lose her appetite."

"Oh, Yue'er is my newborn daughter. As they say, an infant's nutrition is essential, and we mustn't let her go hungry. I thought that the only way to improve Silver's milk quality was to have it evolve again. However, after nearly ten days and several failed attempts by other Beastmasters, I was so lucky that Mr. Eight God appeared. Otherwise, my Yue'er would have kept crying."

Hearing him ramble on like a housewife, Kent couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable, as if goosebumps were rising.

"As the saying goes, I take your money to solve your problems. No need to thank me."

Kent lightly shook his hand before quickly withdrawing it, saying, "Actually, the reason the milk quality dropped is because Silver absorbed too much moonlight at night, which made its constitution too cold, plus a lack of exercise and poor feed quality. Its body has been in a sub-healthy state for a while, so naturally, the milk quality suffered."

"Ah, I see," Spring Dawn said, his expression turning respectful. "Thank you, Mr. Eight God, for the advice. Silver has been with me for many years, and I have a deep bond with it. I am grateful for your guidance. Though I cannot repay you, please accept this token of thanks, a mere 10,000 credit points."

Spring Dawn grabbed Kent's delicate hand and forcibly transferred the points to him. "Wow, Mr. Eight God, your skin is quite nice."

Kent nearly died of embarrassment. He quickly pulled his hand away and said politely, "Spring Dawn, please excuse me. I have some matters to attend to. I must leave."

Spring Dawn reluctantly withdrew his hand, a hint of thoughtfulness flashing in his eyes as he exchanged a greeting with the equally stunned Lu Jia.

"Not bad," Lu Jia couldn't help but praise. "You figured out the issue clearly. Impressive."

He was responsible for managing the Beastmaster tasks, and having seen many cases, he couldn't help but admire Kent's abilities. Clearly, Kent was no ordinary Beastmaster.

Spring Dawn gave Kent a thoughtful glance before silently nodding.

Kent, however, continued to take on tasks in Zone C as a Beastmaster.

Although he had earned over 25,000 credit points, a decent haul, he knew that getting the advanced evolution liquid to evolve Garfield from Silver to Gold would be much more expensive.

The price of evolution liquid was over ten times that of nutrition liquid. One bottle of advanced nutrition liquid cost 10,000 credit points, while advanced evolution liquid cost 100,000 credit points.

Moreover, even after consuming evolution liquid, success was not guaranteed.

In fact, the success rate for a beast evolving after consuming evolution liquid was generally only around 20-30%. Some people had to use ten bottles before succeeding.

However, Kent had no such worries. Thanks to his Divine Beast Evolution System, he could bypass these limitations. As long as the conditions were met, he could easily upgrade and evolve his beasts.
