Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

The sun was at its highest point in the sky but the tropical nature of the cave preserved some coolness so it wasn't as hot inside the cave. Jane had spent the whole morning cooing at tiny animals that loitered about with her legs still in the lake, they were pruned by now but she didn't care. She was having a blast, she was forgetting everything that had happened, even if it was just for those few hours.

Sergio was perched on a big boulder with his work iPad at hand but he wasn't actually working. He just needed a cover should he be caught gazing at the woman.

She had always been a breath of fresh air, even when he was young and angry, her presence was enough to lift dark clouds and drag in the sun wherever she went.

Maybe it was what made him fall for her. Maybe it was the fact that she was clueless to a fault but she had the biggest heart. Her innocence did not fade with age, it was pure coming from a teenager and even now, as an angry adult, she still had that innocence about her. The way her eyes lit up, the way her lips lifted in a beautiful smile that infected the whole place, the way her nose crinkled when she didn't like something or the tilt of her head when she confused or the fact that she's a horrible liar, Jane was a beautiful light that nothing could dim.

She giggled as a butterfly tickled her nose but she didn't make any move to chase it away, even as it settled on her nose, instead she stayed still until it was gone. Sergio's lips lifted on their own accord at her childishness.

The iPad vibrated in his hand, signalling an incoming message and his gaze flickered down to a message from Phoenix.

'The plan worked. He's coming here instead', the message read.

Sergio stood up and dusted his butt before coming to stand before Jane.

"It's time to go", he told her, staring down at her as her big brown eyes gazed up to him.

"But we just got here", Jane whined.

"It's two o'clock"

Jane's eyes widened as she jumped up but her clumsiness got in the way and she slipped on a slippery rock by the lake side.

Sergio's arm reached out to catch her but the force she was falling with, coupled with the slippery ground was enough to make his lose his balance and together they went tumbling into the lake.

A groan escaped Sergio when he came up for air but Jane's trashing around was enough to stop him from any rebuttal and pull her up. She wrapped herself around him and gasped for breath.

"You cannot swim?", Sergio asked the obvious, even though he already knew.

"No! Let's go out now", she gasped and held on tight.

"Come down", Sergio tried to pry her limbs away from his torso but she held on tight.

"Jesus Christ", Sergio gritted.

One would think he was frustrated and they would be right. Her breast was pressed to his chest and the thin materials of their clothes didn't stop her hard nipples from grazing his chest and she was convinientlt wrapped around him, he was a man after all.

Sergio huffed and with Jane wrapped around him he wadded out of the lake and she didnt get down until they were out of the lake and far from it.

"Sorry", she mumbled and looked anywhere but at him when she finally climbed down from him.

"Did you have to jump around like that? What if the lake was shallow enough for you to crack your damn head? Or I wasnt here to save you from drowning? What is wrong with you?!", Sergio snapped at her, his voice tight with anger.

She was really defenseless and he hated that anything could hurt her, from her clumsiness to her lack of survival skills. He knew he will not always be around her and the thoughts of what could have happened if he wasn't near scared him but he transfered that fear to anger. It was easier to explain why he was angry than to explain his fears.

Getting no answered from Jane, he stomped around and marched out of the cave, to where he parked earlier and the quiet woman followed after him.

When he got to the car he popped the trunk and fished out a black t-shirt from a black duffel bag, along with a towel.

"Umm...", Jane started unsurely when the angry man proceeded to dry her hair with the towel and when he was done, he dried his own hair and gave her the shirt to put on before stomping to open the door for her.

Safe to say, the drive was very awkward with Jane wringing her hands and Sergio keeping his gaze on the road.

He felt bad for snapping at her but he didn't know what to do so he kept mum and focused on driving them back to the villa.

He had a couple of other things on his mond too, things like Luciano. If he was in town, he had to act fast and either kill him or drive him out to kill him somewhere else.

He will be damned if he lets him kill someone else dear to him.
