The sound of the blaring alarm jolted Jane awake. She shot up from her bed and grudgingly shut it off before slumping back on the bed. It was only five AM and she knew she was torturing herself but she wanted to do this. She purposely set her alarm to wake her up early as she had been doing for four days. Her training with Phoenix was by six am every morning but because of her tardiness she would be there by some minutes after seven, sometimes even eight. The woman had been patient with her but Jane wanted to improve hence the alarm which made her lay in her bed while considering her options.
She stood up and went into the bathroom to start her morning routine which involved emptying her bowels, taking a shower and her oral hygiene. By the time she was done, she felt and looked great with her sports gear clinging to her like second skin. Her body was forming too though it hurt like hell but she could feel some tightness in parts of her body that was loose.
With a pep in her step, she walked out of her room into the empty hallway, save for Brody, her newly assigned bodyguard that stood guard at her door.
"Good morning Brody. You can go get some rest now, I'll carry on from here", she greeted the large man.
"I can't do that ma'am. I must be on guard at all times", he shook his head and stared ahead.
"This is the seventh morning you are disobeying me. I wonder how Sergio will react", Jane crossed her arms on her chest and tilted her head at the man whose eyes widened at the mention of Sergio's name.
"So let's not try to find out. Go and rest, you can resume by four"
The big man shifted around on his feet, looking very uncomfortable. Jane felt bad for putting him on a spot but she felt like she needed her space sometimes. She wouldn't mind being watched after but Sergio never cared to share why he was putting a guard on her, in a house full of his Mafia members.
Jane got to the gym by 5:45 AM and pushed the big double door open.
People were already down there, though not much. Just a few people trying to get an early morning work out in.
Aubrey's dark hair was not hard to spot in the gym. She was sitting on sparing mats, with her face in her phone when Jane approached her.
"Hey, you're super early today", she smiled at Jane and pocketed her phone.
"I guess I'm getting used to getting up early", Jane shrugged and sat down.
"Let's start, yeah?", Aubrey observed her reserve attitude.
Jane nodded her head and stood up with her.
"Next week you can start training with Keith", Aubrey shook her arms and took a defensive stance.
Jane bounced on her toes and went for a kick which Aubrey blocked with her forearms.
"Yeah... You think I'm ready for the real shit?", Jane grunted and sent another kick at Aubrey's calf but the woman countered with a flick of her foot.
"You have fast reflexes. You should focus on your strengths while working on your weakness", Aubrey dodged a fist and quickly countered a knee to her stomach with a swat.
"Sergio said I will learn other things beside fighting but it's not happening", Jane went for the woman's calf again but Aubrey grabbed her legs, making her hop around until she flipped her and she landed on her back.
Jane arched her back as her face squeezed in pain, she landed hard and her body already hurt.
"Son of a bitch", she mumbled to herself.
"Patience. You will learn everything in due time. Sergio knows what he's doing", Aubrey said, offering her her hand to stand up.
Jane scoffed and grabbed the hand. She pulled herself up and returned to her stance.
"What's the matter?", Aubrey asked, this time resuming an offensive stance.
Jane immediately changed her own stance when she saw that Aubrey was ready to attack. Aubrey nodded approvingly when she saw what the red haired woman did.
"Nothing", Jane mumbled.
Aubrey made a faux attack for her face and when she went to defend herself, she tried to hit her stomach. Jane was quick to try and counter the attack. It hit her but not as much as it would without any form of defense.
"Try again", Aubrey threw a jab at her but Jane jumped back.
"The last time I was with him he was biting my head off, now he's been out for God close to a week without any form of communication. Phoenix too. Sometimes I doubt he knows what he's doing", Jane grunted when Aubrey hit her calf, the wounded calf.
"I'm sorry", Aubrey made a face when she realized she hit a sore spot.
"So I'm getting that you're angry for Sergio for ghosting you?", Aubrey asked.
"You can say that"
"And that you actually want to hear from him?", Aubrey pressed on.
"I didn't say that", Jane scoffed defensively.
"Not in so many words", Aubrey shrugged, a smile playing on her lips.
Jane scoffed again and jumped back when Aubrey tried to grab her.
"Sergio is... Well... Confusing at times but I'm very sure he has your best interest at heart", Aubrey said.
"He snapped at me for not knowing how to swim but when I bring it up that I want to learn, he snaps again", Jane sighed.
"That's more like Sergio. Give it time or better still, give him a piece of your mind", Aubrey finished and pounced on Jane, holding her in a chokehold.
"And never let your guard down", she sassed when Jane started tapping out.
