"Deep breath... just walk in. All I gotta do is act like a normal high school girl. That's it. Easy, right?"
Ā
I muttered to myself, psyching myself up as I stood frozen at the school gates. My legs felt like lead, but I somehow managed to take that first step forward. One shaky step after another, it felt like I was walking straight into a blazing inferno of shame.
Ā
And don't even get me started on the skirt. This breezy, unfamiliar thing swishing around my legs? Yeah, I'm not ready for that.
Ā
"You can do this, Nut... Wait, no. Not Nut. Natcha. Yeah, Natcha... God, help me."
Ā
If I mess this up, it's all over.
Ā
Arguing with myself in my head, I forced my legs to keep moving. This was, without a doubt, one of the most humiliating experiences of my life. And what exactly was this horrifying ordeal?
Ā
Walking into an all-girls school.
Ā
Holy Jesus, an all-girls school! A place where someone who thinks of themselves as "a dude" has no business setting foot. Not even a little.
Ā
If there was any way out, trust me, I'd have bolted. But no. No way out. If I wanted to find a way back to my old self, this was the only option. So yeah, no choice. Here goes nothing, Nut!
Ā
Muttering prayers under my breath to calm my nerves, I marched forward.
Ā
*Thud.*
Ā
"Oof!"
Ā
I'd been so wrapped up in my inner turmoil, I didn't even notice I'd bumped into someone. Classic me. And of course, because fate hates me, it had to happen now. Great.
Ā
"Oh no, are you okay?"
Ā
A soft, sweet voice jolted me back to reality. I looked up and froze. Time itself seemed to hit the pause button.
Ā
Standing before me was a girl straight out of a fairy tale. Her golden, wavy hair was tied neatly into a ponytail, and her bright blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight, like little shards of the sky. She looked like a princessāthe kind you'd see in moviesāand her warm smile was practically glowing. It was so dazzling, I had to look away before it blinded me.
Ā
"I-I'm fine. Sorry about that," I stammered, bowing and apologizing like my life depended on it. My face was probably as red as a tomato. I couldn't bring myself to meet her eyes, not with her beauty practically radiating high beams at me.
Ā
"No worries! You must be new here, right? I don't think I've seen you before."
Ā
Her voice was warm, and her expression was just as welcoming. Meanwhile, I was barely holding it together.
Ā
"I'm Aqua, by the way. I'm in 11th grade. Nice to meet you! What's your name?"
Ā
"U-uh, I'm Fah. Also in 11th grade. Nice to meet you too," I managed to squeak out, my voice a weak whisper. I was trembling like a scared puppy. Not my fault, okay? This was my first real conversation with a girl. Cut me some slack.
Ā
"That's great! We're in the same year. I can show you around if you'd like. This school's pretty big, and it's easy to get lost if you're not familiar."
Ā
Aqua smiled again and turned to lead the way. I trailed behind her silently, trying not to freak out. Spoiler alert: I was totally freaking out.
Ā
You're probably wondering why someone who used to see himself as "a guy" is walking into an all-girls school. No, it's not because I'm some weirdo or creep. I really was a straight dude.
Ā
Used to be.
Ā
Last week, my life took a massive turn. All because of a completely normal, uneventful walk back to my dorm.
Ā
### One Week Earlier
Ā
It was a regular day. Nothing special. I was heading back from school, taking my usual shortcut through a narrow alley. That's when things went off the rails. Out of nowhere, I heard the screech of tires. A small white truck came barreling into the alley, slamming on its brakes. What came next wasā¦ not normal.
Ā
*Bang!*
Ā
A loud noise echoed as pink smoke started billowing out, filling the alley in seconds.
Ā
"What the heck is this? Galaxy gas?" I coughed, flailing my arms like I was trying to swat away an alien invasion, but it was no use. The smoke wrapped around me like it owned the place, making my head spin. Before I could process anything, my knees gave out, and boomālights out.
Ā
When I woke up, I found myself in what looked like a hospital room. My vision was blurry, and my head felt like it had been stuffed with cotton.
Ā
"Mr. Nut, you're awake?"
Ā
A woman's voice called out. Turning my head, I saw a nurse in a pristine white uniform standing by my bed. She looked friendly, but there was a hint of worry in her expression.
Ā
"Uh, where am I?" I asked, my voice groggy and weak.
Ā
"You're at our company's research center. We're so sorry about the accident," another voice chimed in. I turned to see a man in a suit, looking all official and apologetic.
Ā
"Accident? What accident?"
Ā
"Wellā¦ There was an incident involving one of our experimental products. Unfortunately, you were exposed to it. And, um, it's had some effects on your bodyā¦ significant ones," he said, his eyes darting nervously as if scanning me for a reaction.
Ā
"Effects? What kind ofāwait, my voice. Why does it soundā¦ weird?"
Ā
The voice that came out of my mouth was higher, softer. It wasn't mine. Not the deep, familiar voice I knew. My heart started racing.
Ā
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stumbled to my feet, despite the dizziness. Grabbing the mirror on the bedside table, I angled it to see my reflection.
Ā
And then my brain justā¦ stopped.
Ā
"No way. This isn'tā¦ This isn't me!"
Ā
The face staring back at me was that of a girl. A delicate, feminine face with fair skin, shoulder-length black hair, and big, wide eyes filled with panic. My hands shot up to touch my cheeks, and the hands I saw weren't mine either. They were smaller, softer. Who the hell's hands are these?!
Ā
"What's going on? Why do I look like this?!" I shouted, my voice cracking.
Ā
"Please calm down," the man in the suit said, raising his hands in a placating gesture.
Ā
"Calm down? How am I supposed to calm down?!"
Ā
"I understand this is a lot to process. We're truly sorry for what happened. The experimental drug you were exposed to was designed for gender transition. Itā¦ accidentally triggered a complete physical transformation," he explained.
Ā
My jaw hit the floor.
Ā
"You're sayingā¦ I'm stuck like this?"
Ā
"For now. But I promise, we're working on a solution. In the meantime, we've arranged for you to attend an all-girls school where you'll be safe while we sort this out."
Ā
"An all-girls school?! Are you kidding me?!"
Ā
"Don't worry," he said, handing me a stack of documents. "We've taken care of everything. From now on, your official student name is Natcha, but you will be known as Fah, quite a cute name for asian heritage isn't it? You'll be attending as a regular student. Just hang tight, and we'll fix this."
Ā
"Fix this?!" My legs gave out, and I collapsed back onto the bed.
Ā
Yeah, this is my life now. Fantastic.
Ā
