Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Just Trying to Get Home

Finally, the chaotic day at school came to an end. But it wasn't exactly a peaceful exit. I spent the whole afternoon caught between Aqua's pointed glances at me and Beam's overly cheerful smiles. And, oh yeah, the invisible lightning bolts shooting between them? Totally felt those too.

What even is my life right now? Why are these two so interested in me? I'm just some guy-turned-girl trying to lay low and survive!

But never mind that. All I cared about was getting home. Sweet, quiet home. Sure, the school offered a fancy dorm, but the pharmaceutical company insisted I stay at a private house they'd arranged. No complaints here, though; the place was spacious, comfy, and had everything I needed.

"Are you seriously planning to go home alone after what happened yesterday?"

Aqua's voice broke my train of thought as I packed my things. She looked at me with a mix of worry and disbelief, and I couldn't blame her. By now, she'd obviously learned about yesterday's mafia incident. Thanks, Beam.

"It'll be fine. I can handle it," I tried to assure her, though my voice didn't sound as confident as I'd hoped.

"No way. If something happens again, what will you do?" Aqua argued, hands on her hips. Before I could respond, Beam's voice cut in.

"Don't worry. I'll go with her."

Wait, what?! Since when was this decided?

Aqua's expression shifted instantly. "You going with her is the reason she's in danger to begin with."

"Excuse me? Did you say something, Princess?" Beam shot back, her smile dropping a degree.

"I'll say it again if I have to. If it weren't for you, Fah wouldn't have gotten caught up in this mess," Aqua countered, her tone sharp.

Here's a fun fact: apparently, these two have known each other since kindergarten. According to my classmates, they're supposed to be close. But judging by the tension in the room, you'd think they were sworn enemies. Oh, and let's not forget the fangirls shipping them as rivals in some weird romance drama. Yeah, this school is wild.

"Relax. Those guys were just some lackeys from home sent to fetch me. No gang would dare cross into my dad's territory," Beam said, leaning against the wall like she owned the place.

Hold up. Those scary mafia guys were just… house staff? Are you kidding me?! And wait… her dad? Did she mean *that* dad? The one with enough influence to send chills down anyone's spine?

Great. Just great. First the Gulf of Thailand, now the Andaman Sea feels closer than ever.

"Regardless, it's still dangerous," Aqua pressed on. "Fah, why don't you let me take you home? My driver can drop you off safely."

"My car's safer," Beam interjected, her smirk returning. "No one messes with my dad's people."

"And what if your car gets caught in a crossfire? Or, heaven forbid, a bomb?" Aqua replied, her voice dripping with exaggerated concern.

Beam rolled her eyes but didn't back down. "You're being paranoid. Besides, my car's top-of-the-line. No one's going to lay a finger on it."

"Top-of-the-line doesn't mean bomb-proof," Aqua shot back. Her golden hair practically shimmered as she clasped my hands dramatically. "Fah, please. Let me take you home. My car is a state-of-the-art electric model from the US. It's quiet, comfortable, and environmentally friendly. You'll love it."

Before I could respond, Beam pushed off the wall, her grin widening. "Oh, really? Well, my family's car is a brand-new luxury Benz with a top-tier suspension system. It's like sitting on a cloud, Fah. A cloud. And it has autopilot. Imagine cruising home while gazing at the stars."

The tension between them hit a boiling point as they stared each other down, all while wearing deceptively polite smiles. Meanwhile, I was just… there. Caught in the middle of what felt like a high-stakes car commercial war.

"Luxury or not, can your car filter out air pollutants? Mine has an advanced air purifier, perfect for keeping Fah comfortable and healthy, without a single speck of smog," Aqua countered with a sweet, angelic smile.

"Air purifier? Cute. But my car's seats recline into beds. Perfect for someone like Fah, who's had a long day. No stiff seating like in some cramped electric car," Beam fired back.

"Actually, my car has massage seats," Aqua said, her voice still calm but her eyes sparkling with determination. "Fah can relax completely on the way home."

"Oh yeah? Well, my car has a built-in entertainment system with a massive screen. Fah can binge her favorite shows in high-def. Doesn't that sound amazing?"

I couldn't take it anymore. "Guys! I appreciate the thought, but… I'll just walk home."

They both froze, their eyes snapping to me.

"Walk?!" they exclaimed in unison, disbelief written all over their faces.

"Yes, walk," I said firmly, though my voice wavered slightly under their combined stares. "It's not far, and I could use the exercise."

Without waiting for their reactions, I turned and bolted. Behind me, I heard them blaming each other for scaring me off, their voices fading as I sprinted out of the school gates.

By the time I reached a taxi stand, I was panting and utterly drained. I hopped into the first cab I saw and gave the driver my address. Home sweet home, here I come.

When I arrived, I barely had time to catch my breath before a familiar voice greeted me.

"Welcome back, Nut… I mean, Fah."

Standing in the doorway were the company's chairman and his ever-serious assistant. Fantastic. Just what I needed.

"What are you two doing here?" I asked, not bothering to hide my exhaustion.

"Oh, just checking in. You know, making sure our VIP is doing well," the chairman said, adjusting his sunglasses like some kind of movie villain. "So, how's school treating you?"

"Chaotic," I replied flatly. Just thinking about the past two days made my head hurt.

"Good, good. Sounds like you're adapting," he said with a grin. "Now, let's get down to business."

"Business?" I echoed, suddenly wary.

The chairman's grin widened as he leaned in slightly. "Yes. We've got news about the drug. The one that can turn you back into a guy."
