CHAPTER 1
***VERITY POV***
"Verity, you have to marry the nightwalker alpha"
My father's commanding voice rang in my head. He looked at me with eyes void of any emotions.
Looking up at him with my lips slightly parted to speak, but I couldn't find the words as tears filled my eyes. I ran as fast as I could to my room.
In my room, I couldn't help but break into tears. I couldn't believe my father could do such a thing to me.
Since the demise of my mother at a young age, my father, the alpha of the lunar pack, has been cold to me and my brother. I always wondered if he ever loved me or even wanted him. I can still remember the words he said one day when he came back drunk.
"I never wanted you, you are a useless werewolf who can't even summon her wolf. A mere commodity for sale to get power," those words which he said still haunted my darkest nightmares.
But what I can't believe now is that he wants me to marry the ruthless alpha of the night walker pack. He was rumored to be heartless and cruel, he kills without any mercy, yet my father arranged my marriage with him.
I stand up, and I determine in my heart that I will find a way to call off this wedding.
When a thought crossed my mind, I needed to talk to my brother. Though he didn't care for me and was always with my father. But that didn't mean he would easily sell me to the den of lions. I'm sure he would find a way to talk to his father.
Wiping my tears I walked out of my room in search of my brother.
Walking into the training grounds, I found my brother fighting with his guard, Johnson.
Watching them both in their wolf form, fighting like their life depends on it. I felt a sting of pain in my heart, being the only werewolf in the kingdom who could summon her wolf. I have been labeled as weak among my peers.
"What are you doing here" the voice of my brother Richard brought me out of my thoughts.
I looked up at him, smiling a bit at my brother; being the only sibling I had, he had always been protective of me and had my back.
"I came to you because I had an important issue to discuss with you, brother," I said to him.
"I know what you want to talk about, verity, but we can't discuss it here; let's move to my private chambers," said Richard as he led me to his private chambers.
On getting into his private chambers I couldn't help but break down into tears.
"Help me, brother, you are the only one who can talk to Father; I can't marry the nightwalker alpha," I said with sheer desperation in my voice.
Looking at his face I could see the pain in his eyes as he covered it up quickly.
"I can't help you with this Verity"," my brother said, looking at me, trying to conceal his emotions.
"What do you mean by you can't help me, Richard," I said, disappointed and heartbroken.
"You have to marry him to protect the pack," Richard said.
"The nightwalker pack is planning to wage war with our pack, and you know the forces of our pack are weak. We can't win against the nightwalker pack" said Richard.
"So to stop this war from happening, Dad offered an alliance, a joining between the two packs, which is you. He offered that you get married to the alpha of the nightwalker pack for peace to reign. For the happiness of our pack." Richard said.
"So I am the sacrifice, the one to join the two packs together but you and Dad didn't think to ask me for my opinion before sealing my fate," I said as tears ran down my eyes
"You didn't think of my happiness, you didn't think of what I want. You didn't think of how I wanted to leave my life before selling me out to the den of lions," I said as I choked on my tears.
"I didn't believe you would do such a thing to me, brother; I have lost my trust in you," I said as I ran out of his chambers.
I ran till I was deep in the woods, that has always been my solitude whenever I needed a place to vent. Since I was a child, my werewolf powers have been weak, and I don't have my werewolf senses.
Already weak, I sat on the ground crying; I couldn't believe everything I had ever wished for was coming to an end. All my dreams had been shattered.
I can't help but remember when my mom was still alive, she would always smile at me and say sweet words to me.
"You are very special, my child, and you would change the world," she always said as she patted my head lovingly.
I couldn't help but cry at the thought; if she was here, she would have made sure I didn't have to go through all this.
"Mum, I miss you," I whispered silently.
Snapping out of my thoughts I heard someone growling slowly. Turning around I saw a rogue look at me like a pretty.
"I must have wandered too far," I muttered to myself.
Facing it, I stepped back slowly as it stepped forward, watching me closely, and then I did the only thing I always do: I ran.
I ran as far as my feet could take me not minding the way the thorns pierce my skin. Stumbling on a branch I hadn't seen before, I tripped and fell, hitting my head on a rock nearby.
I tried to stand up but was too weak to lift my body. I heard the sound of flesh tearing.
I felt someone lift me. Opening my eyes slightly, I saw a pair of hazel eyes staring at me.
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice barely loud, but I knew he heard me. Closing my eyes as I embrace the darkness.
