Summer of 2000 in the Pokémon Era

It was just dawn when Jack got up from the bed in his rented house, glancing at his phone. The time read just before six in the morning. After sitting on the bed for a few moments, he got up and began his morning routine.

Once he was done washing, Jack packed a few personal items into his space backpack. Taking one last look around the room he had called home for the past three years, he smiled slightly, sent a message to the landlord confirming he wouldn't renew the lease, and left without hesitation.

It had been three years since Jack arrived in this world. When he first crossed over, he was disoriented and struggled to accept the reality of what had happened.

The same name, the same house—everything had seemed familiar. He hadn't noticed anything unusual about himself, either.

When the landlord came to collect the rent, Jack calmly paid for the next year without hesitation, despite the Poochyena growling at her side.

Once the landlord left, Jack immediately powered on his computer, which had been sitting idle for far too long, and began scouring the internet for news.

"A new evolution of Eevee has been discovered, in addition to Water, Fire, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Dark, and Ice types. The Pokémon Alliance has officially named it Sylveon."

"The Pokémon college entrance exams concluded as scheduled.

The Pokémon Science Champion from SC Province has declined Central University's offer, choosing instead to attend the local Heavenly University."

"A giant Tentacruel led a swarm of Pokémon to attack coastal regions, causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure." "Aiden, the Water-type Elite Four member from China, led a Pokémon Alliance team in a fierce battle alongside local Trainers against the Tentacruel." "The clash between Aiden's Swampert and the giant Tentacruel destroyed half of the coastal city. The Tentacruel was injured and retreated to the ocean. Reconstruction efforts in the coastal region are underway."

Jack stared at the barrage of news headlines, his mind spinning. At last, he came to a staggering conclusion: he had indeed traveled to another world.

After heading downstairs, Jack grabbed a quick breakfast at a small shop near the entrance of his apartment complex. Soon after, he walked to the 719 bus stop, just 200 meters away. With no subway nearby, the bus was his only option.

Reflecting on his experiences over the past three years, Jack shook his head lightly as he waited. Moments later, the No. 719 bus arrived. He boarded, taking a seat by the window in the last row. As the bus slowly pulled away, Jack's journey began.

His destination was the Pokémon Alliance branch in Mountain City, SC(Southern China) Province. Sitting quietly, he looked out the window while mentally calculating his next steps.

In this world, 2,500 years ago, a massive meteorite group collided with Earth. The resulting energy triggered monumental changes in the planet's environment. The landmass expanded to 100 times its original size, with the oceans and land increasing proportionally.

At first, humanity teetered on the edge of despair, but when they realized that aside from the increase in Earth's size, there were no catastrophic changes, hope surged again. A larger Earth meant greater resources, and countries scrambled to claim them.

However, the euphoria didn't last. Strange, magical creatures began to appear worldwide—creatures with incredible powers. Initially, humans and Pokémon clashed. Armed with modern weapons, humanity held the upper hand. Even though many Pokémon possessed astonishing abilities, their strength seemed manageable at first.

But as humans expanded further, the tides of war began to shift. Just as there were strong and weak individuals among humans, Pokémon also varied in strength. When powerful Pokémon joined the fray, human weapons became ineffective.

Humanity was forced into retreat.

Territories gained from the Earth's expansion were gradually lost, and the balance of power tipped irrevocably.

The war between humans and Pokémon raged for 500 years.

In the end, humanity resorted to nuclear weapons to assert its dominance and preserve its Totem status. However, when Legendary Pokémon joined the war, nuclear weapons seemed to lose their devastating power.

Humans watched in disbelief as these so-called ultimate weapons vanished without a trace, swallowed by spatial distortions created by the Pokémon. It was as if the attacks had never happened.

Despair loomed over humanity until, 2,000 years ago, the first human recognized and accepted by Pokémon emerged. This marked a turning point.

From that moment, Earth entered a new era:

The Pokémon Era!

The bus continued moving at a steady pace, neither too fast nor too slow. Jack's initial calm gave way to a growing excitement. He was on the verge of receiving his first Pokémon.

Since the dawn of the Pokémon Era, human civilization had undergone rapid development. Industries and professions centered around Pokémon emerged and flourished, spreading like mushrooms after a rainstorm.

Nations worldwide united under the Pokémon Alliance, and Pokémon culture became the cornerstone of modern society. Yet, the threat posed by Pokémon still lingered.

Despite Earth's expansion, the land inhabited by humans was now smaller than it had been before the meteorite collision. Dense forests, vast deserts, towering snow-capped mountains, and endless oceans had all become dominated by Pokémon.

Occasionally, wild Pokémon would encroach on human settlements, wreaking havoc and causing significant damage. In this context, Pokémon Trainers became one of the most coveted and prestigious professions of the age.

However, the Pokémon Alliance imposed strict requirements for becoming a Trainer.

Only students who completed nine years of compulsory education and three years of high school Pokémon studies could proceed. After passing the rigorous college entrance exams, they needed to be admitted into a university with Pokémon-related courses.

Only then could they visit the local Pokémon Alliance Center to receive their starter Pokémon.

Students who attended universities without Pokémon programs were not eligible to receive Pokémon at all.

This meant that, for most people, the journey to becoming a Trainer could only begin at age 18. Even then, they had to pay a hefty fee of 20,000 Pokédollars to the Pokémon Alliance Center.

For those who were not recruited into Pokémon universities, the path was even more challenging. They either had to catch a Pokémon in the wild—an incredibly dangerous endeavor—or pay an exorbitant fee of 100,000 Pokédollars to the Pokémon Alliance Center.

Venturing into the wild often proved fatal for ordinary people.

The cost of acquiring a Pokémon could financially ruin a family, let alone the ongoing expenses required to raise and train it. Only families with significant resources could afford such a luxury. For most, the thought of adopting a Pokémon was a distant dream.

Zhi zhi zhi! The bus came to a halt.

The Pokémon Alliance Center had arrived.
