Chereads / The Werewolf Saga of Gama / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

It began quietly, almost unnoticed, as strange howls echoed through the forests bordering Gama. Small farming villages reported people going missing, only for others to turn up in horrifying states, eyes glowing amber, strength beyond anything human, and a thirst for blood. The infection didn't just creep in; it exploded.

In the small farming village of Lyria, life had always been simple. The fields stretched wide and green, and the villagers prided themselves on their crops and livestock. But on one fateful night, that peace shattered.

The full moon hung low, casting its pale light over the village as Arthur and his pack moved through the shadows. Arthur, the young beta werewolf leading the mission, had one goal: to ensure that no one escaped. He was ruthless and efficient, using his heightened senses to track anyone who tried to hide or run.

The first scream pierced the air, followed by another. Within minutes, the village was engulfed in chaos. Farmers who had gone to bed dreaming of a good harvest were now running for their lives.

Arthur watched as the infection spread. A single bite was all it took, and the curse took hold quickly. The villagers convulsed and screamed as their bodies twisted and changed. Their humanity melted away, replaced by the savage hunger of a predator. The air was thick with the scent of blood and fear, and Arthur stood at the center of it all, a grim smile on his face.

"This is only the beginning," he murmured, satisfied.

Arthur's pack had been sent to spread the werewolf curse, but even they hadn't anticipated how fast it would consume Gama. What started as an isolated attack in Lyria quickly spiraled out of control.

The curse moved faster than anyone could contain it. A farmer bitten in Lyria would flee to the next village, unknowingly bringing the infection with them. Soon, entire communities were transforming under the light of the full moon. Families turned on each other, friends became predators, and no one was safe.

The fields of Lyria, once lush and green, were now stained red. The barns were empty, the animals either slaughtered or gone. The village was silent save for the occasional growl or the crunch of bones as the newly transformed fed on what remained.

News of the outbreak reached the larger towns of Gama within days. Survivors, bloodied and terrified, poured into the cities, begging for refuge. But they brought the curse with them.

In the city of Veran, one of Gama's trading hubs, the infection erupted overnight. A merchant who had escaped from the border villages stumbled into the marketplace, clutching his arm where a bite mark festered. By the time anyone realized what was happening, he had already transformed, attacking anyone within reach.

The werewolves tore through Veterans cobbled streets, turning the once-thriving city into a battlefield. People barricaded themselves in their homes, but the beasts were relentless, clawing through doors and windows.

The mayor of Veran sent a desperate plea to King Alden in the capital: *"We cannot hold them off. The infection is here. Veran is lost."*

King Alden was no stranger to adversity, but this was unlike anything he had faced. Reports poured in from across the kingdom villages wiped out, towns overrun, and citizens fleeing in all directions. The infection was spreading faster than anyone could have imagined, and the army was powerless to stop it.

The werewolves weren't just dangerous because of their strength and speed; they were unstoppable because they multiplied with every bite. For every soldier lost in battle, another werewolf joined the enemy.

In the palace, the king's advisors debated their options. Some called for a total lockdown, sealing the cities and leaving the countryside to fend for itself. Others suggested sending what remained of the army to the border in a last-ditch effort to contain the spread.

"We can't win this with swords and walls," Captain Darius, the king's most trusted advisor, said grimly. "We need someone who knows how to fight these creatures."

King Alden nodded, his face pale but determined. "Send word to Elizabeth."

For the citizens of Gama, life had become a waking nightmare. The once-bustling cities were now eerily quiet, save for the howls that echoed at night. Every full moon brought new horrors as the infection claimed more victims.

Children clung to their parents, too afraid to sleep. Merchants abandoned their stalls, their wares left to rot. Entire neighborhoods were deserted, their inhabitants either turned or fled.

Those who managed to survive did so in constant fear. The werewolves didn't rest; they hunted relentlessly, their glowing eyes scanning for any sign of life. The moon became a symbol of terror, its light no longer beautiful but a herald of destruction.

For Arthur, everything was going according to plan or so it seemed. He had been sent by Ostonia to destroy Gama from within, and the results were undeniable. The kingdom was in ruins, its people broken and scattered.

Yet, as he surveyed the carnage, a strange unease crept over him. The infection was spreading faster than even he had anticipated. What started as a controlled mission now felt like chaos spiraling out of control.

Arthur had always believed in the cause. Ostonia's rulers had convinced him that Gama deserved to fall, that this was justice for years of rivalry and betrayal. But watching the devastation, he couldn't help but question whether they had gone too far.

"These people didn't stand a chance," he muttered to himself, his voice tinged with something he refused to call regret.

As the infection continued to spread, Gama's fate seemed sealed. The howls of the werewolves echoed across the land, a chilling reminder of the kingdom's collapse. Even in the capital, the heart of Gama, fear reigned.

People whispered of a savior, someone who could stop the infection and slay the beasts. But as the days passed and the full moon rose again, hope grew dimmer.

For Arthur, his mission was complete, but the consequences were far from over. The kingdom of Gama, once peaceful and thriving, was now a land of monsters, its future hanging by a thread
