Chereads / The Werewolf Saga of Gama / Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

King Alden sat in his throne room, his shoulders slumped with the weight of despair. Gama, once a kingdom of peace and prosperity, was crumbling before his eyes. The werewolf curse had spread like wildfire, turning once thriving cities into ghost towns. The streets were eerily quiet during the day, but when night fell, the silence gave way to the chilling sounds of howls and screams.

The people of Gama were terrified. Families barricaded themselves in their homes, praying to survive another night. The king's heart ached for his people, but his army was powerless against the monsters. With every passing day, the infection grew worse, and hope seemed farther away.

"Send word to our allies," King Alden commanded, his voice heavy with exhaustion as he addressed his council. "We cannot fight this alone."

Messengers were sent to neighboring kingdoms, but the responses were not what Alden had hoped for. Some rulers offered hollow condolences; others gave no response at all. Even Vasper, a once-loyal ally, refused to help.

The fear of the werewolves was too great. No kingdom wanted to risk its soldiers or resources against an enemy so deadly and infectious. The curse of the werewolves was not just a threat to Gama it was a warning to all.

Days turned into weeks, and still, no aid arrived. The council began whispering among themselves, wondering if they should abandon the cities and flee. But King Alden refused to give up. He had one last hope.

In the quiet moments between council meetings, Alden thought of the stories he had heard. Tales of a lone warrior whose name was whispered in both fear and reverence: Elizabeth, the legendary werewolf slayer. Her skill was unmatched, her reputation spreading far beyond Gama's borders. She was said to be ruthless, efficient, and unrelenting in her quest to destroy the cursed creatures.

"If anyone can save us, it's her," Alden thought.

The king summoned Jarek, a young boy who served as his fastest messenger. Jarek was barely out of childhood, but his determination and speed had earned him the king's trust. Alden handed him a sealed letter, the parchment creased from the king's trembling hands.

"You must deliver this to Elizabeth," Alden said, his voice thick with emotion. "Tell her we will give her whatever she asks. Gold, land anything. Just tell her we are desperate."

Jarek nodded solemnly, his small frame straightening with resolve. "I won't fail you, Your Majesty," he promised before dashing out into the night.

The road to Elizabeth was long and treacherous. Jarek rode through abandoned villages where the air reeked of decay and the ground was stained with blood. He passed fields that had once been full of life but were now eerily still, their crops left to rot.

By night, the howls of werewolves echoed in the distance, and Jarek's heart pounded with fear. He clutched the letter tightly, repeating the king's words in his mind: *This letter could save Gama.*

After days of relentless travel, Jarek finally reached Elizabeth's remote cabin. It was a small, unassuming structure nestled deep in the woods, surrounded by thick trees that seemed to shield it from the outside world. Jarek dismounted his horse and approached the door, his hands trembling as he knocked.

The door creaked open, and Jarek found himself face-to-face with the woman whose name was known across kingdoms. Elizabeth was not what he expected. She was tall and strong, her leather armor worn but well-kept. Her eyes were sharp, piercing, and cold, as if she could see through to the truth of anyone who stood before her. A long scar ran down her cheek, a testament to the battles she had fought and survived.

"Who are you?" Elizabeth asked, her voice steady and commanding.

"I'm Jarek," the boy stammered, holding out the letter. "I bring a message from King Alden of Gama. He begs for your help."

Elizabeth took the letter and read it in silence. Her expression remained unreadable, but Jarek could see the faintest flicker of emotion in her eyes. When she finished, she folded the letter and looked down at him.

"Tell your king I will come," she said simply.

Jarek's shoulders sagged with relief, and he nodded. "Thank you," he whispered before turning to begin his journey back to Gama.

As Jarek disappeared into the night, Elizabeth stood in the doorway of her cabin, clutching the letter tightly. She had heard rumors of Gama's plight long before the boy arrived. Stories of entire villages wiped out, of a curse spreading faster than anyone could contain.

Elizabeth was no stranger to such horrors. She had spent years hunting werewolves, watching the devastation they left behind. But something about Gama's situation felt different. The desperation in the king's words, the scale of the outbreak it was unlike anything she had faced before.

She walked to her weapons, each one carefully crafted for her deadly work. Her silver sword gleamed in the moonlight, its edge sharp enough to cut through the toughest hide. Her quiver of silver-tipped arrows and her trusted crossbow were ready for battle.

"This is no ordinary hunt," she muttered to herself, strapping on her armor. "But I've never been one to turn away."

Elizabeth packed her supplies and mounted her horse, her mind focused on the task ahead. The road to Gama would be dangerous, but she had faced worse. The kingdom was counting on her, and she would not falter.

As Elizabeth rode into the night, King Alden waited anxiously in his throne room. The sounds of howls and screams echoed through the city, a constant reminder of the peril they faced. He could only hope that his message had reached its destination, that the legendary slayer would come to their aid.

For Gama, Elizabeth's arrival could mean the difference between survival and total annihilation. For Elizabeth, it was another battle in her unending quest to rid the world of the werewolf curse.

The fate of the kingdom now rested on her shoulders. And she was ready.
