Kaizer entered his room, which was lightly decorated with a blue tint. It was large enough to be the master bedroom of most family homes, with enough space for Kaizer to have a separate area for entertaining guests, his large king-size bed, an expensive computer setup, an arcade setup, and a console setup along with a 100-inch television mounted on the wall.
He moved toward the cream-colored couch and plopped onto it, resting his face on his hand as he pondered the events of the night before.
His date with Carla was not his first, and he didn't think it would be his last. Before that, he had met her through a normal conversation on an online dating app, same as his previous dates. In this time, he had mostly experienced some interesting dates and others which were disastrous, but never one where he was almost killed.
After all, with his ability, he could usually detect any hostility or negativity, which was another reason he had grown up safely and was afforded a life where he could walk around without the need for bodyguards nearby. It was only in recent dates that he stopped using his ability in order to forge a more genuine and meaningful connection with his possible partners.
That almost got him killed.
Never again.
And then there was his strange awakening. Kaizer vividly remembered the scene where his emotions boiled over and seemed to release some sort of seal within him, allowing his stunted power to erupt fully.
That's right, stunted. His ability to sense emotions remotely and consciously, and thoughts subconsciously, were merely inferior versions of the famous psychic ability, Telepathy.
After his awakening, he had full rein of this power, and now no longer needed to sense emotions since he could directly pluck out the thoughts of everyone within a certain range of himself. Remotely doing so was limited to his sensory range with his psychic ability, but if he made eye contact, he could bypass this range, even if they were a kilometer away.
Not to mention, eye contact strongly enhanced his power, at least by 200%. If there was a person with a strong will who could block their minds from him using the remote method, Kaizer felt that achieving eye contact should allow him to shatter that resistance.
These were all assumptions, though; he would have to fully test out his power and acquire the full range of its abilities with hard numbers. He could have done this in the hospital after he woke up, but he did not dare to do so.
There was no telling what other powers others might have, so he even forcibly pulled in his power completely, which saved him when Officer James touched him. Kaizer could only do this because he had years of suppressing his emotion-sensing power in its stunted state so as not to bother his daily life.
If he was newly awakened in the truest sense, like the officers thought, he would not have the ability to suppress his power no matter how talented he was. This was a matter of experience, not talent.
His main goal right now was to remain hidden and not reveal his power at all. To that end, he did not show any abnormalities at all until he got home, even when he was passively reading minds during the interrogation. He never changed his facial expression to reflect what was being said and remained as normal as possible.
After all, Kaizer could sense the minds and emotions of living things, but what if there was someone among them with a ghost-related power? A ghost could have been standing beside him the whole time, and he would never have known.
Not to mention that he could not sense technology. There could have been a camera recording him that would later be put through processing to detect any giveaways or mistakes he made, so it was best to maintain normalcy at the time.
Kaizer sighed and passed a hand through his soft hair. He felt mentally tired just thinking about the events of the past 24 hours, because it felt like the entire world had flipped it's head upside down. The most important thing now was to understand himself.
He was hesitant to use his power in public but felt safe at home. His father had invested a great amount into their home's security, and he had already shown Kaizer most of the operations so that the lad could take charge if his father was not around.
Kaizer currently had access to two abilities that he could actively control. The first was Telepathy, the ability to read minds. The second was Telekinesis, the ability to control items with his mind.
Unfortunately, he could not project his thoughts outward and communicate through minds, which was a sub-power of telepathy. Kaizer assumed that he might need to train his abilities to develop further functions, as the world of psychic power had many avenues.
Off the top of his head, Kaizer knew that psychic power could be split into six major categories, which he dedicatedly called 'The Six Paths of the Mind' henceforth.
The first and most common was Telepathy. Under telepathy were sub-powers: mental communication, mind control, and illusions.
The second and most coveted by normal people was Telekinesis. Under this were sub-powers like transvection (the ability to levitate and fly with the mind), enhancement (boosting one's physical prowess), and repulsion (preventing attacks from hitting the body by creating a barrier that repulses all things).
The third was Channeling, which was the ability to see spirits and ghosts, as well as communicate with them. Under this were sub-powers like exorcism, summoning, and possession (seance).
The fourth was Elemental Control. This was a more mysterious ability that allowed one to either control or spawn elements for their use. Some sub-powers were the famous pyrokinesis, aerokinesis, and aquakinesis.
The fifth was Telesthesia. This was the famous domain ability from various fictional media, where one extends the five senses out of the body to grasp all details around them. Some famous sub-powers were domain suppression (where those within range of the senses were made weaker), domain omnipresence (able to strike anything within range of the domain regardless of defenses or distance), and domain manipulation (using the domain to affect the laws of the world within the range of the domain).
The sixth was Spacetime. Certain psychics could achieve the ability to affect time and space around them to various degrees. Some of the famous and more common sub-powers of this were precognition, retrocognition/psychometry, and apportation (the ability to teleport long distances).
It might seem exaggerated, as if psychics were omnipotent, but the truth was that psychic power emerged from the human brain. No matter how grand the power, it was limited by this flesh-and-blood organ, so most psychics could only realistically activate one of the six paths, and even then, they could only use one sub-power to a limited degree.
The majority would only ever awaken telepathy, and to a weak degree like the previous unawakened Kaizer. A few might achieve telekinesis and only be able to lift pens or daggers, while even fewer would acquire pyrokinesis and light people on fire crazily.
Psychics were already too few in the world at any point in time, and the majority were limited to the above categories.
This was why Kaizer had staunchly decided to hide his abilities, because even though he could consciously control only two of the six paths, he could somewhat subconsciously feel the presence of the other four as well!
