Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Everyone looked at me as if I were an alien or something. I could feel Roman's eyes literally staring at me, but I ignored that; all I was doing was stating facts. I looked at them all, and I knew someone wanted to say something. It was obviously something rude or something dumb, but I didn't really care; I had nothing to lose. In fact, I was not going to stand here and debate with any of them; if they all got killed or not, it was still a win-win situation for me. I folded my arms as I waited for someone to open their mouth; it really didn't take that long.

"How would you know about these so-called monsters?"Samantha said, narrowing her eyes at me. I knew women like her; bullies didn't like anyone or anything going against them. It was a blow to their ego.

I raised an eyebrow at her. "Listen here, lady. It doesn't matter how I know about these monsters; what matters is that you take this seriously if you want to live. You are already wasting a lot of time."

Tom nodded, grateful that I had backed him up. "She is right; these banshees... they don't look like something we should even take lightly, Samantha."

The Alpha then cut in. "So you have encountered these things. Where did they come from, and what should we expect?" he said, looking at me.

Samantha scoffed. "Don't tell me you actually believe her... of all the people!"

"Silence," Alpha Roman's voice boomed, and he didn't even have to shout. His voice had this natural strong tone to it. Samantha stepped back a little with her head bowed down; she knew her place, but I had a feeling she was going to be a lot of trouble. I wouldn't mind if she died first; the banshees would be doing me a big fucking favor.

I cleared my throat. "Well, this will go either two ways. If you are dumb enough to stay and fight, expect to lose almost all of your people. You will all probably die; that is a fact," I said, and people gasped. "If you leave this place now and choose not to fight, then expect to survive, but you might lose one or two people. These things are really fast, so you never know."

Alpha Roman looked annoyed; he probably did not like the fact that I was underestimating him. Alphas did not like being underestimated, especially by their mates. They all liked to portray themselves as strong and powerful creatures, but the truth was these banshees would really humble you. I watched him carefully; I noticed that his ears would turn a little shade of rose red when he was not happy or a bit angry. I wanted to smile, but I kept a straight face as I waited for his response.

"This is our home; we will stay and we will fight. Whoever wants to leave, I will not force you to stay. Nobody will take our home away from us... no creatures will scare us away from our home!" he said, tightening his jaw. He was addressing everyone, but it felt like he was directing that message to me.

I shrugged and began to walk away but didn't say anything. I mean, hey, if they had a death wish, who was I to interfere? I had my own issues to take care of; at least he said people were free to leave—how kind of him. I sighed and glared at one of his men who blocked my way. "What now?"

"Where do you think you are going?" Roman asked, and I turned around to face him. People were watching us like this was all an interesting movie scene.

I ignored everyone's stares and looked at him directly. "You said we were free to leave; unlike you people, I don't have a death wish."

He laughed for a second, but it wasn't a normal laugh; it was definitely a sarcastic laugh. "You... you mate are not going anywhere. You will be right here by my side."

I almost groaned. "You have got to be kidding me right now." I mumbled, but I know they all heard me, and Samantha, in particular, was not amused at all.

Samantha raised her head a little. "Permission to speak, Alpha."

Roman nodded his head, and Samantha began to speak. "I mean no disrespect to your mate, Alpha," she began, and I knew already that she was about to say a whole load of bullshit. "but I feel like ever since she arrived, it's weird that suddenly we are about to get attacked by some creatures. What if it's all a set-up?"

I scoffed. "Wow, really, bitch?" I couldn't help myself; she was really trying to get on my nerves.

She growled at me as she looked at everyone. "I know you are thinking it!"

A tall man standing next to Roman cleared his throat; he looked like he was the beta. His hair was jet black, he had dark eyes and caramel brown skin. "We should consider the possibility that Sam could actually be right, Alpha."

I watched Roman; for some reason, I actually wanted to see his reaction, and to say I was disappointed in what I saw would be an understatement. He was actually considering it; this was really stupid. I growled lowly; my wolf was not happy at all; how I was feeling was so weird, and it was really confusing. I felt betrayed, and I felt like there was this big lump in my throat; it was so hard to swallow. What was I expecting, for him to kiss me and tell everyone else to fuck off with their suspicions? This wasn't me at all, and I was so annoyed because I couldn't escape these feelings.

When Roman nodded at his beta, my heart dropped. "Take her away; if it's a set-up, she dies," he said lowly. His voice was ice-cold and emotionless. He believed it—that I had set this all up.

Two men began to lead me away; as I passed by the Alpha, I made sure to tell him, "Fuck you... Roman."
