Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

I knew I looked like shit, but I was still the badass me. Nobody would walk all over me as long as I was still alive. "Hello Samantha, are we lonely, Samantha?"

Girls like Sam were usually disliked in the pack, so to get some sort of relevance instead of being looked down upon as weak, they did rather be feared. In the end, they become bullies or just mean.

Sam growled, completely annoyed. She grabbed the silver jug of water that was supposed to last me some time and threw the water at me. I was more frustrated that she just wasted my water than anything else. These days Ella only came about once a week to leave stale bread and a jug of water.

"I don't even have to touch you. You already smell like death," Sam scoffed as she stormed off. It made me wonder what she really wanted to do. Did Roman send her to kill me or to see if I was dead? But then again, he said he would do it himself, right?

I lay down on my back as I stared blankly at the ceiling in my wet, dirty dress. Ella had given me one long black dress to change into; she actually just threw it at me, but I was grateful. Now the dress was dirty and drenched, but it didn't bother me. I had never really thought about death as a peaceful thing or a good thing.

Death is something I have always feared, but after everything that had happened, as I stared at the ceiling, there was this silence and calmness that enveloped me. I could hear my own heartbeat slowly, and I breathed out... is this how people felt when they were about to die? It wasn't scary at all; it was actually not so bad. Where would I end up after this? Was there an afterlife or something like that, or would it all just be over? I smiled as I was about to close my eyes. Whether it would take a long nap or actually dying, I didn't give a damn. I breathed out again, and then there was a loud sound of a door opening and footsteps.

I didn't bother looking at the people that had walked in. I knew it was him, Ella, and the beta, but I could feel his fear. Why was he afraid? Was he actually concerned about me dying, or was it something else? Roman entered my cell really fast, and I watched him with a smirk. "Are you here to rip my head off now... I have been patiently waiting, Alpha," I said, but I could barely hear my own voice. My throat was so dry it felt like I had eaten a lot of sand or something.

Roman did not look happy at all as he picked my body from the floor. He did not say anything—actually, nobody said a word as they took me somewhere. I couldn't resist or try to fight them because I couldn't move. My whole body was just numb; Roman carried me out, and the sudden light made me squint my eyes. He placed me on a really comfortable bed with white sheets, and a lady came rushing into the room.

"What is happening? What is wrong with her!" Roman growled. I tried to move, but my whole body was shivering; I didn't want any check-ups because it would just raise many questions.

The lady, who was probably the pack doctor, came closer and began to check me. She looked concerned as she took my temperature. "She has a really bad fever; her temperature is abnormal. She should have healed fast, but she is not. I'm not sure how she could have gotten this sick; it's almost as if..." She looked at Roman with a confused look on her face, then shook her head.

"As if what?" Roman asked, getting impatient. I wanted to scream 'shut up!' but my lips wouldn't move; I only prayed this did not go sideways.

"As if she is human? Half-human or something, but it doesn't make sense because I can feel her wolf clearly," she said, biting her lip.

Roman folded his arms. "So what are you saying... she can't be an omega I would have noticed."

"To be honest, this is just vexing me as well. Maybe give me more time with her to..." Before she could finish her statement, Roman cut her off.

"You will not study my mat... her. You said she has a fever; can you heal her or not?" he got straight to the point.

She nodded confidently. "Yes, I can. I will put her on some medicine and herbs; she will be alright in a few days. I strongly suggest you let me take a look at her, Alpha, just in case this is serious."

"No," I whispered, staring at him although it was really difficult to focus.

Roman seemed like he was considering something, but he ended up responding quickly. "Just take care of her now; then we will talk about the rest later."

I do not remember exactly what happened after that, but when I woke up feeling like shit but at least my body could move, all I could think about was escaping. Roman was onto me; it's either he knew a lot or just a little, but I was not going to wait to find out. That man looked like he was very displeased.

I woke up and sat up straight, which was a very painful process, but it had to be done. I drank the whole glass of water on my bedside and tried to stand up straight. Thank goodness they had dressed me up in a clean white dress; it was long and comfortable. The door was slightly open, and it felt like no one was standing outside. I moved around slowly as I looked for shoes, and my eyes lit up as I spotted them. By now, I was already sweating big time; however, I kept telling myself to keep going, just as I put on the last shoe; I felt him behind me. This guy was seriously going to give me a heart attack!

I jumped a little as I stood up straight; my eyes were wide open, and I swallowed hard.

"Are we going somewhere?" he said, watching me with a blank face.
