Chapter 18 - An audition

January 16: Late-Night Conversations

As Anissa settled into our home, I cherished the extra time with my sister. We spent the next few days exploring the city, shopping, and reminiscing about old times. Anni, my affectionate nickname for Anissa, brought a spark of energy to our household. Her infectious laughter and bright smile illuminated every room she entered.

Meanwhile, Clyde remained a constant presence in my life, even when we weren't physically together. Every evening, without fail, he'd call me, and we'd talk for hours. His voice was my sanctuary, a place where I could be myself.

"Moon, how was your day?" Clyde's soothing voice would ask, melting my worries away.

I'd snuggle into bed, phone cradled between ear and shoulder, and share every detail. Clyde listened attentively, offering words of encouragement and laughter. His genuine interest in my life made me feel seen and heard.

One evening, as Anissa slept in the adjacent room, I crept into the garden, phone in hand, and settled onto a bench. The cool night air carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the stars twinkled above like diamonds.

"Clyde, I'm so glad Anni's home," I said, watching the stars. "We're having the best time. She's sharing amazing stories about France."

"I'm happy for you, Moon," Clyde replied. "You deserve quality time with your sister. How's she adjusting to being back?"

"We're keeping her busy," I chuckled. "Shopping, movies, and family dinners. She's loving every minute."

We talked for hours, discussing everything from Anissa's French adventures to our shared dreams. Clyde's voice was my comfort, my safe haven.

As our conversation wound down, Clyde whispered, "I miss you, Moon. Can't wait to see you soon."

My heart skipped a beat. "I miss you too, Clyde."

Our goodbyes were always bittersweet, but the promise of tomorrow's call kept me going.

"I love you, Moon," Clyde said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I love you too, Clyde."

The line went silent, but his words lingered, echoing in my heart.

February 10: A Shift in Balance

As Clyde's business took off, our dates and calls became less frequent. He was working tirelessly, pouring his heart and soul into his venture. I couldn't help but feel proud of his accomplishments.

"Moon, I'm sorry I've been distant," Clyde said during one of our rare calls. "This business is consuming me, but it's worth it. We're expanding, and I need to stay focused."

I understood, truly I did. His dedication was inspiring.

"Clyde, I'm proud of you," I replied. "You're doing amazing things. I just miss our time together."

"I miss you too, Moon," he said, his voice laced with exhaustion. "But soon, things will settle, and we'll have more time."

Meanwhile, watching Clyde's success sparked something within me. I wanted to achieve my own dreams, to make a name for myself. Acting had always been my passion, and I decided to pursue it seriously.

Unlike Anissa, who struggled to land roles, I was determined to become a renowned actress. I enrolled in acting classes, honing my craft, and began attending auditions.

Anissa, noticing my newfound focus, offered encouragement. "Dahlia, you have talent. Go for it!"

Her support meant the world, but I knew the competition was fierce. I was willing to put in the work, to take risks, and face rejection.

As Clyde's business continued to boom, I poured my energy into acting. Our conversations became shorter, but Clyde's words of encouragement remained constant.

"Moon, you're capable of greatness," he'd say. "Chase your dreams. I'll be here, cheering you on."

His faith in me fueled my determination.

March 15: Audition Day

I stood outside the audition room, fidgeting with my portfolio. This was my first attempt at landing a role, and I was nervous. As I glanced around, my eyes landed on a familiar face – Anissa.

"Anni!" I exclaimed, rushing to hug her. "What are you doing here?"

Anissa smiled, looking relieved. "I finally got an audition! I've been trying for months."

My heart swelled with pride. "I'm so happy for you! This is my first time, but you've been working so hard."

We chatted briefly, exchanging words of encouragement. As we waited, I couldn't help but notice the contrast between us. Anissa's golden hair shone, but her eyes betrayed a hint of desperation. I, on the other hand, felt calm, my dark hair curled and my innocent green eyes sparkling.

The auditor, a middle-aged woman with a warm smile, greeted us. "Welcome, ladies. Let's get started."

As Anissa went first, I offered silent support, my fingers crossed. Her performance was heartfelt, but I sensed a hint of nervousness.

Then, it was my turn.

As I began, the auditor's eyes lit up. "You're absolutely stunning," she interrupted. "Your features are captivating."

I blushed, accustomed to such comments. My face resembled the moon, Clyde often said.

"Focusing on your performance," the auditor continued, "you have a natural talent. Your emotions shine through."

I finished the audition, feeling hopeful.

As we left, Anissa turned to me. "Dahlia, you were amazing. I'm so proud of you."

"I'm proud of you too, Anni," I replied. "We'll support each other, no matter what."

The outcome was uncertain, but one thing was clear – I'd be happy if either of us secured the role.
