Chapter 21 - Nomination congrats

February 10 (Diary Continues)

I couldn't bear the thought of Clyde marrying Anissa. The rest of the evening was a blur. I went through the motions, pretending to be happy for my sister.

But inside, I was dying.

I couldn't understand why Clyde hadn't told me. Why had he kept this secret?

The diary entries stopped abruptly, the pain and confusion still raw on the pages.

*Present Day*

I shut the diary, the memories flooding back. I hadn't opened that book in years.

Why had I done it tonight?

The clock read 2:47 AM.

I lay back, trying to shake off the emotions. But they lingered, refusing to let me sleep.

Clyde Grey.

Even after all these years, his name still evoked a storm within me.

I closed my eyes, willing myself to calm down.

But my mind wandered back to that fateful day.

The day my heart shattered into a million pieces.

The day I lost Clyde forever.

As I drifted into a restless sleep, the diary's secrets remained locked away, but the memories continued to haunt me.

*The End* or so I think ....

Next Morning

I woke up, feeling emptier than ever. The diary's revelations still lingered, and the memories of Clyde haunted me.

I couldn't stay here anymore.

I packed my bags, determination etched on my face.

"Aunt Sophie, I'm leaving," I announced, trying to hold back tears.

Aunt Sophie's concern was palpable. "Dahlia, what's wrong? Is everything okay?"

"I need to go back to work," I said, forcing a smile.

Before she could question further, I hugged her tight.

"Take care, Aunt Sophie. I'll be fine."

At the airport, I received a call from an unknown number.

Clyde.

My heart ached.

I rejected the call.

He tried again.

And again.

I rejected each call, my resolve strengthening.

As I boarded the plane, I knew I was fleeing.

Fleeing from the pain.

Fleeing from Clyde.

But I couldn't shake off the feeling that our story was far from over.

The flight took off, and I gazed out the window, tears streaming down my face.

March 15: Recognition

Life abroad had been a whirlwind of film shoots, interviews, and promotional events. My latest project, "Echoes in the Night," had garnered critical acclaim, and the buzz around it was palpable.

The email arrived, and my heart skipped a beat:

"Dear Dahlia,

We are thrilled to inform you that you have been nominated for Best Actress at the prestigious Golden Star Awards for your outstanding performance in 'Echoes in the Night.'

Your portrayal of Emily, a complex and deeply troubled character, has resonated with audiences worldwide. Your dedication to the craft is truly inspiring.

Congratulations!

Best regards,

The Golden Star Awards Committee"

I screamed, tears of joy streaming down my face. This was the moment I had worked tirelessly for – the validation that my passion and hard work were paying off.

Aunt Sophie and Anissa were over the moon when I shared the news.

"Congratulations, baby!" Aunt Sophie exclaimed, her voice trembling with pride. "You've made us all so proud."

"You deserve it!" Anissa chimed in, beaming with excitement. "Your talent shines through in every role you take."

The excitement was palpable. We celebrated with a video call, laughing and crying together.

Later that evening, as I celebrated with champagne and cake, my phone buzzed.

A text from an unknown number:

"Congratulations, Dahlia. You shine brighter with each passing day. -C"

My heart fluttered.

Clyde.

Again.

Why couldn't he leave me alone?

I hesitated, then typed:

"Thank you."

Simple.

Neutral.

Safe.

The response came instantly:

"I'll always be watching, cheering you on."

A shiver ran down my spine.

Why did his words evoke such conflicting emotions?

Pleasure and unease.

Gratitude and frustration.

I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the celebration.

The Golden Star Awards nomination was a dream come true.

Nothing could dampen this moment.

Or so I thought.
