Beth was winnowing some millet outside her house. She was in her sixties but she seemed strong with her head full of white hair. Today was the day Alaric was coming from her boarding school. It was also on the Christmas eve and Alaric had just done her national exams. I will make her some sour porridge just to get a reaction from her, Beth grinned her head gears formulating plans to tease her granddaughter
Mmmh she was growing old and she had promised to tell Alaric all about her origin. She used to tell the villagers that her daughter died while giving birth. She had been calling her miracle just like her mother used to call her but after joining the kindergarten, she changed her name to Alaric. They had hidden for long. She prayed that she will live long enough to protect Alaric.
After finishing with the Millet Alaric baked some bread and made launch. Some steamed veggies, she cut some fruits and placed them on the dinning table. She fried chicken and rice. ... Alaric loves chicken.
After all the work, Beth sat down thinking of where to start, she wished she had the power to protect the queen and the king seventeen years ago, She had lived in regret , if only she had not been so comfortable maybe just maybe she could have noticed the danger. It was too late to regret now. They lived in a modest mansion. It was one of the queens property. It was only known by the queen, the king , one most trusted gaurd and Beth herself. To think she was the only one that survived that carnage. It still brought tears in her eyes. she took out her handkerchief and dabbed her eyes.
Today was a good day for Alaric and she was not going to destroy it with her sorrow.
She remembered the young Alaric when she first called mama Beth was very happy and too sad at the same time. Whe she had asked of her daddy, beth had showed him the full moon and the stars... Look up miracle you see that big moon, thats daddy, he is always watching us from above and that big shinny star.. thats your mama.. she keeps daddy company.. you see the other tinny stars.. those are the friends and soldiers gaurding mama and daddy in that case no body can harm them while they are watching over us..
When she had taken girl to the kindergarten,Alaric was only four, she had looked up at Beth with her bright eyes, grandma, and will be a nice girl and i will behave like a princess, Beth had been emotional that day, she yad even shed tears.. yes my miracle is a princess. But now dear remember your name you are Alaric.. Only i can call you miracle. Grandma what do Alaric mean , the little girl had asked. Beth crounched down so as to be in the same height as her, it means a queen. Alaric was so happy to learn the meaning of her name. But thirty seconds later, she tilted her head and looked straight into Beth's eyes with a straight face she said.. but i am just a little girl....
