Chapter 12 - eleven

You know, I'm not usually the type to play matchmaker or give love advice. But one thing's for sure—Jun is not the right one for Ari.

If I can't have her, fine. I'll just make sure she finds someone who actually deserves her. Someone who's not only a good match physically but also has a personality that complements hers perfectly.

Because Ari? She deserves nothing less.

You might be wondering, "Why, Yuu?" or "Are you mad?"

Of course I'm not mad. Why would I even bother doing this when Ari and I aren't even friends? It's simple, I just don't like Jun for her. End of story.

Someone has to save Ari from the walking disaster that is Jun and his unfortunate hairstyle. She deserves someone on her level—someone who can actually match her caliber.

And let's be real, that someone is definitely not Jun.

Like I said before, I'm not one for heroic acts. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and if no one else will, I'll be the one to stop Ari from dating Jun.

Why? Well, for starters, my two idiot best friends are clearly rooting for him, so they're officially useless in this situation.

But the real question remains, does Ari even fancy him?

If she does, well… good for her, I guess. But seriously? I just hope her taste in men isn't as disastrous as Jun's hairstyle.

If she doesn't fancy him, though? Then it's time to move on to Plan B, which is finding her a Prince Charming who's actually worthy of her.

But of course, I needed to ask her first if she fancied Jun or not.

As I silently munched on my pretzels, I cleared my throat, trying to steel myself for the conversation. Ari was at the sink, casually washing a few glasses, when she suddenly glanced over at me and flashed that charming smile.

Focus, Yumi.

"So… that was Jun, huh," I began, trying to sound nonchalant.

Ari turned to me with a curious expression. "Yeah?"

"Did he, uh, ask you out?" I asked, keeping my tone as casual as possible. The last thing I wanted was to come off as weird or like I was prying into her business.

"Yeah, he did," she said simply, her eyes locking onto mine like she was studying my every reaction.

"So… are you going?" I asked, taking a deliberate sip of my cola, trying to seem totally unfazed.

"Why do you want to know?" she countered, a playful smirk tugging at her lips.

I almost choked on my drink—again.

"Nothing!" I spluttered, scrambling to recover. "I was just… curious?" I finished lamely, wishing I could disappear on the spot.

Yeah, real subtle, Yuu. Real subtle.

"I'm still deciding if I should go or not," Ari replied, her smirk lingering as she watched me with that amused, almost teasing expression.

"Do you even fancy him?" I asked, trying to redirect the conversation.

"Well, he's nice, but…" she trailed off, leaving the sentence hanging.

"But?" I prompted.

Her smile faltered slightly, softening into something more reflective. "Everyone's nice to me," she said quietly, a half-smile tugging at her lips.

I nodded in understanding.

She wasn't wrong. People like Ari naturally drew attention wherever they went—most of it flattering, sure, but not always genuine.

I hadn't expected her to be so aware of it. It caught me off guard—and made me realize she probably didn't enjoy all the attention she was getting.

"I think you shouldn't go," I blurted out, feeling a wave of nervousness crash over me as Ari turned those gorgeous, piercing eyes on me again. The intensity of her gaze made me feel like I was melting into a puddle.

Her smirk grew slightly, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "Why so?" she asked, clearly enjoying this.

"Well, I can give you one reason," I replied, trying to keep my composure.

"And what is that?" she pressed, tilting her head, her curiosity only fueling my internal panic.

I paused for dramatic effect before finally saying, "Because he has a disastrous haircut."

"What do you mean by disastrous?" Ari asked looking at where Jun was, giggling, her curiosity clearly piqued.

Oh, great. Do I really have to say it out loud? I didn't have much of a choice if I was committed to giving her reasons not to date Jun—even if those reasons were completely ridiculous.

"Well…" I paused again, trying to pull myself together. "It looks like… an uncircumcised head. And honestly, I think you deserve better."

Ari blinked at me, clearly processing my absurd statement, before bursting into laughter. Her laugh was light and melodic, and for a fleeting moment, I completely forgot how to breathe.
