Chapter 41 - More trouble

Luna's words surprised Jaden a little. He had originally thought this was just a jealous woman's act of revenge, but he hadn't expected her to show concern for her employee as well.

Jaden had never imagined that this ruthless woman had such a kind side. However, he didn't quite agree with her spending so much money to have him set up Jenny, especially when she was clearly facing a financial shortfall.

"Sorry, I know you're going through a tough time, but I can't really help you! However, I might have a suggestion," Jaden said, after a moment of hesitation.

Luna seemed to grab onto his words like a lifeline, looking at him expectantly.

"If your divorce with Henry Lin is a done deal, I think you should think about how to better secure your own interests," Jaden continued, speaking calmly. "Maybe, as you said, you have hundreds of employees relying on you for their wages. If you can't keep your husband, at least you can get some money out of this situation, right?"

Luna sat motionless on the sofa, murmuring the words to herself, her expression shifting between moments of cold determination and hesitation.

Jaden sighed inwardly, shaking his head slightly. Perhaps even wealthy people couldn't avoid moments of such anguish.

Looking around the messy room, Jaden hesitated for a moment before deciding to help clean up for this woman.

After all, Luna was his boss, and she had helped him out in a time of need.

If he couldn't help with the important matters, he could at least do something small, perhaps ease her burden a little.

Luna was still lost in thought on the sofa. During this time, Jaden had tidied up her room. Though it wasn't as thorough as a cleaning service might have done, it certainly looked much cleaner.

"Boss, here's the credit card you paid for the resort and your car keys. Including the fuel, the total comes to 6,800 yuan. The resort didn't provide an invoice, but I've made a list for you. Here's the fuel receipt, you can check it over. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving soon," Jaden said, finishing up.

With everything done, Jaden was ready to leave, as he still had many things to handle.

"Ah... I trust you," Luna said, picking up the list and glancing at it. The amount matched what she had found online. She looked around the room and only then realized that the place had been tidied up by the man before her.

"Thank you for cleaning up the room. I'm sorry to trouble you so much. Did you come back for dinner? If not, how about we have dinner together before you leave?" Luna looked at Jaden gratefully.

"No need," Jaden replied with a smile, shaking his head. When Luna wasn't throwing tantrums, she was quite charming. It's just a shame that her emotional struggles had made her seem a bit worn down.

Luna was about to say something more, but just then, Jaden's phone rang.

He took it out and saw that it was his manager calling. Jaden's face turned pale, and he answered quickly.

He had only taken two days off in the past three days, planning to return to work today, but he had ended up wasting a lot of time at Luna's place.

"Hello, Manager Chen, is there something wrong?" Jaden asked with a forced smile.

Luna looked at him in surprise, choosing to remain silent and listen.

"Jaden, you're something else! Another day off? This is the third day in a row you're not at work. Looks like you're living the good life, huh?" Manager Chen's voice on the phone dripped with sarcasm.

"No, I just came back today. I'll start working soon. Sorry, I had some urgent things to take care of," Jaden quickly explained.

"Urgent things? You sure have a lot of problems. A while ago, there was a customer complaint. Fine, you took care of it, I didn't hold it against you. But now look at you! Other people are delivering at least twenty orders a day, and you? Not even ten? You still want to work or not? You're just lounging around all day, playing some game? Are you trying to fool yourself or me? When you first came to me, you said this job was so important to you and that you wanted to make money. Is this how you're going to do it? Forget about the job, just come back and hand in your stuff. Leave now!" Manager Chen said without hesitation.

"What? Fired? Manager Chen, you're firing me?" Jaden asked, his anger flaring.

"Didn't hear me? Let me make it clear, Jaden, you're fired!" Manager Chen said bluntly over the phone.

"You... you can't fire me! I've given you plenty of red envelopes, and I've brought you cigarettes as well! How can you just fire me? And even if I've taken three days off, I only took two days as leave. Even if I haven't worked today, it's just the base salary I'll miss. You can't just fire me like that!" Jaden protested, panic rising in his voice.

"I never asked you for those. You gave them to me yourself. Now you're not working hard, so why can't I fire you? I'm the manager, I have the right!" Manager Chen replied without any consideration.

"Not working hard? Let's be clear here. Our base salary is just a few hundred, the rest is based on our own orders. You, on the other hand, don't even deliver much. Many times, you've taken credit for other people's orders. Your cousin is just sitting there, collecting a paycheck without doing anything, and you add fake numbers to make it look like he delivered something! Even if I haven't been working hard lately, I've been delivering plenty of orders before. You've been taking commissions from me all along, haven't you? So what's this about firing me now? What are you trying to say?" Jaden shot back angrily.

"Do I need to explain myself to you? What are you even worth? I could've fired you when you were first complained about! I've given you plenty of chances. Now, don't make trouble, just get out!" Manager Chen yelled over the phone.

"Fine! I'll go! But what about my pay for this month?" Jaden let out a deep breath, realizing arguing with him was useless. He didn't have the authority to contest this.

"Still thinking about your salary? How many orders did you even deliver this month? Complaints, tardiness, and the deductions have already wiped it out! You're lucky you're not paying me for it! Forget about the pay, just dream on!" Manager Chen hung up abruptly.

"You're going too far!" Jaden shouted angrily, but all he could hear was the dial tone.

His fists clenched in rage, his face full of fury.

He knew that Manager Chen was just making excuses to keep his pay, and he wasn't surprised that the same thing had happened to other colleagues who had resigned. This guy had a habit of firing people and then stealing their wages.

Jaden realized he hadn't been very active in delivering orders for the past half month, but roughly calculated, he had still delivered over a hundred orders. With the base salary and commissions, he should have made around three to four thousand yuan. How could Manager Chen just decide to blackball his salary?

Jaden's anger boiled, and he started thinking of ways to deal with this situation.

"Sorry... Did I cause you more trouble?" Luna asked quietly, seeing the anger on Jaden's face.
