Dragon Duke Meng Shu and Snake Granny Chao Tianxiang finally lost all traces of the Titan Giant Ape.
Chao Tianxiang, unable to locate her granddaughter, slumped to the ground, tears streaming down her face.
Meng Shu's expression was dark and stormy, his fury almost palpable.
"Don't worry, wife. Even if it costs me my life, I'll bring Yi Yan back!"
"Bring her back? With what? Do you think you can go up against the Titan Giant Ape, the king of the forest? We'll be dead long before we find her!"
Meng Shu understood his wife's despair. Her words, though cutting, were born out of sorrow and hopelessness.
Just as Meng Shu was about to reply, he suddenly sensed movement from the dense forest behind them.
"Who's there?" he shouted, his soul power surging and pressing in that direction.
A voice immediately responded, trembling with fear.
"Meng Shu, Senior, it's… it's me, Zhao Wuji!"
Upon hearing this, Meng Shu retracted his soul power, though his mood remained grim. His frustration was not aimed at Zhao Wuji but at himself. If only they had left immediately after the hunt, none of this would have happened.
Zhao Wuji emerged from the forest with the Shrek Academy students in tow. His expression was one of trepidation as he approached. He had hesitated to come but had been compelled by Tang San's insistence.
The Shrek students, still recovering from the earlier chaos, followed silently. Among them, some harbored resentment. Oscar, for instance, felt the weight of misfortune—first losing a spirit ring, then facing the Titan Giant Ape, and now being dragged along on a perilous mission.
As Zhao Wuji arrived, Meng Shu's voice was unusually calm.
"Why are you here?"
But the tranquility in his tone only hinted at the storm brewing beneath.
Tang San, too, was in turmoil. The absence of Xiao Wu had left him with an unbearable sense of loss. Memories of their time together replayed in his mind, intensifying his anguish.
"Why? Why did it have to end like this?"
His heart cried out for a miracle, though his rational mind knew better.
As for Yun Feng? Tang San didn't care about his fate.
The tension in the group was thick, with most too overwhelmed to speak.
Suddenly, a peculiar sound broke the silence—a rustling, scratching noise emanating from the dense forest nearby.
The group immediately grew alert. Weapons were raised, and everyone turned toward the source of the sound.
Emerging from the shadows was a creature that sent shivers down their spines.
A massive black spider, its body over one and a half meters in diameter, with legs stretching over three meters, appeared. Its glossy black exoskeleton gleamed ominously under the faint light.
Tang San recognized it instantly. The white markings on its abdomen formed a sinister face, while its eight violet-glowing eyes stared menacingly.
It was the notorious Man-Faced Demon Spider, a nightmare for small spirit beasts and a terror even among soul masters.
"Man-Faced Demon Spider!" Tang San gasped, his voice tinged with a mix of fear and excitement.
The spider lunged at Tang San with lightning speed, its front legs poised to pierce him. Tang San rolled away just in time, narrowly avoiding the deadly strike.
"This… this could be my chance," Tang San thought, his mind racing.
If he could defeat the Man-Faced Demon Spider and absorb its spirit ring, his power would soar. Not only could he recover, but he would also be better equipped to search for Xiao Wu and Yun Feng.
However, before Tang San could act, Meng Shu moved first.
With a swift swing of his Dragon Staff, Meng Shu slammed it down on the spider's head, crushing it instantly.
"What kind of filthy creature dares approach?" Meng Shu grumbled, flicking the remains off his staff.
Tang San stood frozen, his jaw hanging open.
"(⊙o⊙)…"
He stared at the crushed spider in disbelief. His mind reeled with frustration and disbelief.
"Who… who doesn't know better…" Tang San muttered, his voice filled with indignation.
A perfectly good spirit beast, one that could have elevated him to new heights, had been obliterated in an instant.
Meng Shu glanced at Tang San, his expression unreadable.
"Did you say something?"
Tang San swallowed hard, shaking his head furiously.
"No… nothing, Senior," he stammered, though the frustration in his eyes was evident.
Meng Shu huffed and turned away, leaving Tang San to stew in his silent rage.
