Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Echoes of Humanity's Shadow

//Boulder Town: Natasha's Clinic//

Amon sat in wait as he watched his friends wake up. "Morning sleepy heads. We made it out thank to dear Sampo." He pointed towards Sampo who waved sheepishly. Amon grinned as a he began to set the chain of fate toppling.

The wide pointed hat on Amon's head wiggled a bit as the other Amon's within the underground started communicating and setting everything ready for the trailblazers. Amon watched as Natasha rushed to attend the wounded.

Stelle and the others started discussing their situation with Sampo and Natasha who pointed them to the chief of Wildfire. Amon rose up and walked to the wounded, "Miss Natasha, I believe that my expertise in treating wounds may be of help."

Natasha gazed at him with gratitude but soon became worried "Treating the wounded isn't difficult for me. However, we have run out of supplies."

Amon's smile never left "I wouldn't be much of a miracle worker if I couldn't even treat the wounded or revive the dead would I? Miss Chief of Wildfire?"

Natasha's eyes widened in shock before putting up her guard. "How do you know?" Amon grinned playing it off with a lie, "I didn't, I simply guessed based on the body language of Oleg and you when mentioning the chief of Wildfire. So I took a gander and you fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book."

Amon tipped his hat before swiping every single injury away. Natasha watched as wounds disappeared like an illusion. Amon finished up as he asked Natasha "Miss Natasha. I hope you can do me a simple favor. While I may be further ahead then the rest of my "friends" I hope you can let them have some experiences. But could you direct me or perhaps arrange a guide to Svarog?"

Natasha sighed "No problem, it's the least I can do with the help you've given today. Why do you wish to visit Svarog? He's known to be unreasonable."

Amon whispered "I need to make sure everything is ready. Very soon, my friends will ask Oleg about information on the Stellaron. You may not know and neither does Oleg. Only one person in the entire underground knows-"

Natasha finished his sentence, "Svarog, a robot present since ages ago." Amon nodded "I need to make some preparations."

Amon waited as Natasha brought over a purple haired girl wielding a comically large scythe. Amon burst out into laughter as the girl who Natasha introduced as Seele glared at him.

"What are you laughing at monocle freak?" Seele spat at him. Natasha admonished Seele as Amon burst out into further laughter. "Nothing it's that I haven't seen a scythe in so long. Though unlike Evernight, your scythe is too big for your size."

Seele was confused as Amon put a finger to his lips "No need for you to know. There are some things in existence you should never know. Such is one thing. Do not pursue hidden knowledge lest you die a painful horrible death."

Natasha went silent as Seele took it as a threat. Amon stared at the scythe pointed at him. "If it makes you feel safer. Please go ahead and point that toy at me. I'll be in your hands for the duration of our trip to the Robot Settlement."

On the way to the robot settlement, Seele had been feeling uneasy for a while now. Prior to encountering Amon, she had been with the other trailblazers. They all had an air of competence, Dan Heng feeling the most sharp out of all of them. She just couldn't see Amon as part of them.

This scholarly looking feeble man with that creepy monocle, everything about him screamed off. Someone like this whose smile never left his face. Seele while facing some fragmentum monsters had let some of them pass to see how he would respond.

He was a coward, immediately running. Seele snorted and finished off the monsters before turning around to help him. She mocked him internally asking where all that bravado and confidence had disappeared off to.

Amon who had finished a loop around the town block eventually returned with no trace of the monster in sight. Seele narrowed her eyes thinking "At least this coward is good at running."

Seele eventually relented however her suspicions kept growing as the monsters that she let pass all eventually disappeared without any signs. However, Natasha had asked her to do a favor. Amon eventually reached the robot settlement as Seele hurriedly returned back to the clinic.

The robot settlement was soon engulfed in the shadow of Amon as he searched for pieces and puzzles before placing them in different spots. He destroyed a robot before placing it near the cliff and tampered with the rest before setting puzzles.

A few circuitry puzzles and quizzes should suffice and challenge Stelle. Amon admired his handiwork before setting a few avatars to watch the tampered and broken machinery.

//Astral Express: Parlor Car//

Welt was deep in thought as Himeko arrived with a cup of black coffee. "What has gotten you so deep in thought Welt?" Himeko expressed her concerns. Welt jolted as he was brought out by the whiff of black death. Himeko's coffee was not meant for human consumption and perhaps might one day become a cosmetic beyonder characteristic with its looks alone.

Welt sighed "Himeko, about Amon. Do you have the same strange unsettling feeling?" Himeko took a sip without flinching as she nodded "Yes I have. However, everyone is entitled to their secrets. At least with Amon I do not see him as a threat."

Welt gripped his cane harder as his knuckles whitened. He paused before looking at Himeko with unease "It's not about his intentions, Himeko. It's about his identity. I have my suspicions but until they are confirmed I am forced to be vigilant at all times."

Himeko raised an eyebrow, "You mean he's the one behind the monocle horror?" Welt nodded "Without a doubt, I believe that he is the monocle horror. Although anyone could tell that it was simply a prank with sick humor."

Welt sighed "What concerns me is his potential true identity. He's never hid it nor has he made any effort to. Herta simply introduced him as her assistant. Herta has been known to never have assistants. Even Asta who is regarded as her direct assistant is only a manager in her eyes."

Himeko sipped again before motioning for Welt to continue. "What makes me worried is his lack in effort to hide it. On my old world... There was a very old historical mention of a being similar to him. Not exactly but similar with the same name. However with what he has shown, I believe it is also him."

Himeko nodded "So you believe him to be of the same world as you with the ability to copy himself?"

Welt shook his head "No, I believe he has more than one identity. Perhaps at that time, he was weaker." Himeko thought for a bit, "You think the Lord of the Mysteries and whatever you mentioned are all Amon."

Welt nodded "And if he is truly all above, he is far more dangerous and we have perhaps let an eldritch god onto the express."

Himeko chuckled "Even so, he hasn't shown any harm or any intent to interfere with the Astral Express. Instead he has joined with the intention of trailblazing. Perhaps even gods need a vacation every now and then."

Welt shook his head "Perhaps you are correct as you lack prejudice. I however, can never forget the written records. And if they are all him then the kids are with a dangerous individual."

"Amon, The Blasphemer, Angel of Time and the Lord of Mysteries."
