Chapter 4 - The little things in life

Some time has passed.

Now the Hunt begins.

The mission assigned to my father and I was to pilfer intel from the enemy's base—our kitchen. We entered with a plan. It was easy—'in and out' easy, right? Haha... if only things were that easy. We couldn't even pass the base entrance due to a guard.

As I crawl closer to the enemy base, I can feel my palms starting to get sweaty.

Yes, during this time I have learned to crawl, or more accurately, I have improved my degree of body control. "Iggy, we have to do this quickly, or else we won't get the intel we need."

"And we don't want to enrage Godmother—my mother—" My father went on. The uneasiness in his voice told me that this wouldn't be an easy task.

We made our movements quickly but quietly, slipping out of our home base—my parents room—into the hallway.

"Iggy, are you clear to go?" Since I'm unable to say anything, I just continue onward, which should give him a signal that everything is clear.

Reaching the edge of the hallway, we have met the gate to their base—the living room—and we're now entering enemy territory! Until we saw it...

T-the GUARDIAN—my older sister, who's been given the task to protect the intel—We took cover behind a barrier—sofa.

"Iggy, we need to be careful from here on out." He glared into my eyes.

When all-a-sudden we were bombarded by swords—toys—soaring through the air.

"I KNOW YOU'RE THERE!" The guardian roared, sending shivers down my spine.

I know that Father shuddered too, but not from the beast, but rather from what would happen if intel wasn't gathered in a timely manner.

We had five minutes or so before the godmother's wrath would explode, "Okay, Iggy, let's g—." The barrage of swords flew overhead, some striking both me and Father, stopping him in mid sentence, but it was the guardian who really stopped him.

The guardian stood over us, her teeth resembling dinosaur fangs and her evil demeanor. a dagger flying in my direction, but fortunately I was able to scoot out of the way.

Crawling towards my father who was looking at me with a look of gratitude for some reason, but I was wondering, what was he going to do? "Thank you, Iggy," he said, reading his lips. What was this betrayal before he ran off like a child? Father, return now! I have to think fast to avoid being cornered by this creature.

I glance around, realizing that going back is my only option and that going back which wasn't an option either. She was getting closer, and I couldn't help but think that my father was to blame for it. What an idiot! Farewell, world—before me stood my savior, the person I nearly forgot I had a trump card for. There stood my hero, Stella! As she acrobatically sidestepped everything that came at her, Stella scooped me off the floor. She is just great! When things get out of control, the only person who can go back to home base is Stella, my savior!

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed someone, and it was, predictably, my idiotic father. Who just betrayed me, and now he's tiptoeing around the outskirts of their base toward ours, I sighed mentally. As we made eye contact, he just covered his lips with his finger and gestured the "shhh" motion.

Before he bolted down the hallway into the base, I would've tried to get us to band against him, but Godmother wouldn't be too happy with him either way. Father had gotten the intel—the snacks that Godmother had been craving—but now it's too late. As my savior carried me back to the base, it seemed like Godmother had already become furious, so Stella took a full one-eighty.

Now that the fun is over, as I heard the door close, even though my father may have betrayed me, I still have to wish him the best of luck; otherwise, he might just get fully consumed in her wrath.

It had been about an hour until father and mother came from the room, but once they did, father gave me a huge smug smirk and a thumbs up... I wasn't sure of what happened, but if my father was in a good mood, then so was I.

"Iggy, come here!" Father started to come at me with his wet hair, I could only assume that he got out of the shower recently. I made a little effort to run away, but soon he swept me off the floor, then blew raspberries on my stomach, which caused me to uncontrollably laugh.
