The rain may have stopped, but there was no sun in the sky. Sesshomaru stepped out of the hut and waited for Kagome to dress. Everything was soaked; he actually liked the scent.
Kagome moved the flap and stepped out, and looked around. So many memories, all coming back. She was suddenly so sad that she missed Keades passing.
"Come,"
Sesshomaru moved as he always did, swiftly and without one hair out of place; of course, he was talking a lot more than he ever did and she was glad for that.
"Do you happen to know where Shippo is?"
"He left for fox training just after you vanished,"
She wondered, did her wish affect him?
"He has sprouted another tail," Reading her mind,
"He is stronger," She said with a soft smile,
Kagome looks at his hair as it sways slightly with every step he takes, "What about Kouga,"
"I heard he wed,"
That was good; she bit her lip; her silence made him look back at her. "Does this bother you?"
"What?" She meets his eyes. "No, it's great," She waved her hands,
"I recall him making claims on you,"
Kagome laughed; she had almost forgotten about that.
"The wolf and monk were similar,"
That, too, made her laugh. She missed them. But did they miss her? If she really was stuck here, she would go and see them.
But that made her think about Inuyasha again, all this would be easier if he were here, but he wasn't, and he wasn't coming, and even if he was, had, she could not lean on him as she used to. Deep down, she knew, seeing her again would hurt him, cut him, and that's why he wasn't coming. But it made her wonder, was he angry with her? Did he hate her? Blame her. This was all her fault.
"Why are you crying?"
She lifted her face and was about to ask him what he was talking about when a tear rolled down her face. She stopped walking and touched her face. "I'm sorry,"
He stopped.
"I was just thinking about Inuyasha,"
She looked back down. "I dont think I'll ever see him again,"
She looked back up at him.
"A day ago, you were ok with that,"
Thunder rolled far off,
He turned. "He can not save you from your suffering, nor can he make your current situation easier,"
But he could, but that wasn't fair.
He began to walk, and she followed, and soon he was pushing back large plant life that gave way to an old demon, much older than himself. Almost as old as time itself.
Kagome walked up to the old tree and put her hands on him. "Is he still alive, you think?" She ran her hands over the smooth wood.
Bokusenō opened his eyes and raised an eyebrow at Sesshomaru, who stood crossed-armed,
"A little lower, my dear," His voice boomed, scaring her. She jumped back.
"Bokusenō," Sesshomaru barked,
"Well, this is indeed a surprise," The tree spoke. "So you have returned,"
She half smiled,
"You do not seem pleased. Were you not ready to return?"
"I was trying to forget all this,"
He raised another eyebrow and then laughed,
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru.
"Bokusenō, tell me is the Miko aging differently?"
The tree stopped laughing. "Miko, place your hand on my bark again,"
She slowly did so, and Bokusenō closed his eyes. "Hmm, yes, it would seem our mortal Miko is no longer mortal."
Kagome snatched her hand back. "What,"
"It is not surprising," The tree said,
"Not surprising; how can you say that!"
IT was damn sure surprising to her. "Why would I be immortal? I'm not a demon!"
Bokusenō looked between the both of them. "Miko, you seemed surprised to be back here,"
"I am! I had no intentions of coming back here!"
He laughed again,
"Why are you laughing again,"
"It is quite simple; you made a wish on the jewel, yes?"
"Yes, and now it's gone,"
"The jewel does not vanish, Miko,"
"Bokusenō?" Sesshomaru spoke, slight confusion in his eyes.
"While her wish may have purified it, it still holds the power of a thousand souls and one holy human within it; it simply went back to which it came from,"
Kagome placed her hand on her heart. "But I dont sense it,"
"Of course not, that is because you absorbed it; you have its power and its immortality; in other words, Miko, you are the jewel,"
"That still does not explain why I came back,"
Bokusenō looked thoughtful for a moment. "Your wish; it is as simple as that,"
As simple as that?! This wasn't simple!
"After six years?"
The tree shrugged its branches. "There is no time limit on how the wish works, but I would assume its effects are closer to being finished; it began with you, and it will end with you,"
Kagome sunk to the ground. "So there is no going back?"
The tree looked at Sesshomaru and then back down to her. "I am afraid not, and even if you did find a way, you would end up back here; the jewel will always look to return to the place in which it was made; power calls to power, remember it is full of demonic energy and holy energy, Kikyo once tried to cast it away, and it returned the jewel cannot and will not stay in a time where neither of those things exists,"
"But you said I am the jewel,"
"You are,"
Kagome looks at her hands. "But I dont feel different,"
"It is dominant, but it is there; behind those hands lies great power, a great responsibility for a small human, mortal or not,"
This was indeed informative; Sesshomaru knew Bokusenō would know.
Kagome stood. "I think I need air,"
It was Sesshomaru's turn to raise an eyebrow; they were literally outside,
They watch her walk away.
"I was going to tell her that her offspring would most likely inherit power from her,"
Sesshomaru glanced at him. "Would they also inherit her immortality?"
"If she had them with a demon, yes, if she has them with a human, I believe they would have the lifespan of a half breed,"
Sesshomaru looked away from the tree,
"Perhaps you should wait a day to two before giving her that information,"
"Indeed,"
"She is not happy?"
"She believed her only connection here was to my brother,"
"And what do you think?"
Sesshomaru glanced at the tree; ignoring his question, he followed after Kagome.
Meanwhile, Kagome was bent down, looking at her hands; there was no going back, no one to save her.
But save her from what? Herself? Her life, her choices, her wish?
She covered her ears, closed her eyes, and just let it all come crashing down onto her, and at the moment, she didn't care if it crushed her.
