Anabelle's POV
Right as the words left my mouth, the sound of clinking heels made it down the hall.
Who's coming? I thought to myself as my eyes scanned my surroundings.
"Anabelle, do you smell that?" My wolf Gloria whispered in my ear, her voice soft and anxious.
I tried to wrap my mind around it. I don't understand why she would ask me that.
Was there something I'm missing?
She knows that since being held captive here, my sense of smell has decreased rapidly.
There was nothing unusual, only the smell of dry dirt and other prisoners' blood.
Can she smell something that I can't? Or is my sense of smell blocked? I wondered while I sniffed the air.
After a couple of minutes, I sighed. I wish I could smell what she's smelling. If I did, I would understand, and create a plan of action. But I can't.
After talking to myself, I began communicating with my wolf again.
"Smell what?" I asked her, needing an answer to my question. "Gloria, I can't smell anything. It's all the same.
"Oh, okay. Well, I can smell our ex-mate," She declared, her voice filled with worry and anger.
Why is she speaking that way? Gloria is always very courageous. Could it have something to do with the figure inching closer toward us? I thought as the words Ex-mate rang in my ear.
"Kaden is here? I left him just the other day. So, how is that possible?" I questioned her, my heart beating rapidly in my chest.
Is this the Moon Goddess's plan? To let him intimidate me? I couldn't understand anything occurring in my life. Since the day of the rejection from Kaden, my life has been nothing but chaos.
Now he's back in my life, are things going to get any worse? My mind began racing over his actions.
Yet, nothing would prepare me for what would come next. Before I knew it, he was in front of the cell. His eyes bore into mine, sending a chill right down my spine.
Unwilling to allow myself to feel weakened, I stood straight and looked back into his eyes.
"Kaden, is that you?" I whispered as my teeth started to chatter. His existence has me uneasy.
I don't know how to feel about his presence. Why did he have to appear again? Was he intent on changing my life? Or did he want to uproot it?
Everything that happened the other day, is nothing compared to how I feel.
Is he only here to change his perspective? Or does he want to try and gain my love once again? I wondered as he strode closer to the cell in which I was placed.
Before I could ponder over it anymore, someone spoke. Their face was hidden behind the darkness of the dungeon.
"What do we have here? Oh, wait it's you, Anabelle. You're Alpha Christian's mate," they said and moved from behind Kaden.
While the figure walked to Kaden's left side, her eyes widened. My mind raced over how she was a traitor.
What is she doing here? Is she on Kaden's side? Was she spying on Christian to take advantage of him? I thought to myself.
"Giselle..." I spoke without any emotion.
I couldn't take it anymore. How could she do this to our pack? Why in Moon Goddess's name would she side with the enemy? Was she trying to get a rise out of me? I pondered while biting my nails.
She shifted from one foot to the other, her hand resting on Kaden's shoulder.
Then, she spoke, "Alpha Christian is never going find you. Let alone save you from us." Giselle declared, her words filling with malice.
As her words etched in my heart, I looked at Kaden. "Aren't you going to say something?" I demanded, anticipating an answer that would suffice.
For a moment, a flicker of something crossed his eyes. Does he regret his actions?
Everything I knew would go up into flames, and I couldn't do anything about it. Not unless, my mate, would come and save me from his clutches.
Was he willing and ready though? Would Christian choose me, over the safety and security of the pack?
While mid-thought, Kaden spoke, his voice laden with sadness. But his words were laced with defiance.
"I'm sorry for this, Anabelle. But you will stay here until you know who the best person to be with is," he declared, then walked off.
As he left me here, my mind reeled from his words. "Why Moon Goddess! Do you want me to have a death wish!?"
Alpha Christian's POV
"We'll find her. I promise! If we don't..." He spoke, his voice low enough for the both of us.
As his words made it to my heart, Giselle walked into the hallway.
Her steps were measured and secure. "Alpha, don't worry. I will take care of it." Giselle screamed as she made her way closer to me.
Then she stood next to me, her eyes filled with unspoken emotion.
"Alpha, what's going on?" She asked me with crossed arms and squinted eyes.
Why is she here right now? I told her to leave the pack and never return. What does she want from me? I thought to myself, her presence gave me an uneasy feeling.
What do I tell her? It's not like Giselle to be concerned for me. Why is she concerned now? I wondered while searching the hallway with my eyes.
I tried anything and everything not to answer her question. But she was a conniving b*tch, who knows how to get under my skin.
"It's nothing. Go and guard the door to the packhouse." Alex said bursting with conviction, and authority.
While listening to him speak, a smile formed on my face. It is great to have him as my beta. Does he think that she is planning something?
"Ugh, can't you see how concerned I am? Why would you say that?" She yelled, anger rising in her chest.
