Cheska sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "One day, he was just... taken away from me. And I could never move on."
Kayer lowered his gaze, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I see."
He hesitated before speaking again. "I was... angry at Ianthe too. But at least... I had time to say goodbye." His words were laced with quiet sorrow. "I'm sorry for your loss, my lady."
Cheska offered a small, appreciative smile. "It's okay now..."
After a brief pause, Kayer asked tentatively, "How long ago... did you lose him?"
"Two and a half years," Cheska replied. Her eyes flicked to him, studying his expression. "Isn't it the same for you?"
"Yes," Kayer said, nodding slowly. "Though... a month shorter, I'd say."
She hummed in acknowledgment. "How have you been holding up?" she asked gently. "It must be more difficult for you, hearing her name mentioned at every occasion in this world."
