Chapter 8 - The Demon's Revival System.

Elijah and Verayth eventually made it back to the camp, passing through the dark routes and eventually making their way to an unassuming tent. It was small but had a bed and a blanket within. It wasn't perfect, but Elijah was satisfied.

"Let me know if you need anything else Elijah… And remember, I expect to see you up and about the first thing tomorrow morning".

Elijah nodded stiffly to Verayth before she left.

Verayth didn't detour anywhere else, instead she walked at a moderate pace and eventually made it to her tent.

The tent was big, almost as big as the Majors tent itself, there were also two guards that greeted her at the door.

And within, a maid sat quietly, waiting for her master's return.

"You still haven't slept yet?.

Verayth said as she entered the tent, taking off her muddy shoes before stepping on the warm bear skin carpet.

The maid smiled cheerfully, her cheeks turning roby coloured as her long blonde hair tied up in a pigtail wobbled from side to side.

The maid had blue eyes like Verayth's, and a pair of long ears, as she smiled, two sharp fangs protruded from her mouth, the maid was from the same clan as Verayth, the vampire elf race.

"I could never get a good night's sleep knowing that you're out there working… So how was it, was he a friend or an enemy?".

Verayth took off her brown military uniform, leaving the skin tight white shirt as she took a seat on the side of her bed.

"Honestly, I'm not sure".

"Hmm, How's that possible, your eyes surely would have seen true him".

Verayth went silent and contemplated deeply, her memories of the weird conversation between her and Elijah resurfacing, but no matter how she rephrased or tried to decipher his true intention, she failed to even comprehend his thinking pattern.

"I'm not sure I could even see through his words, talk less of his intentions, it was almost like he genuinely believes his lies and sincerely doubts his truths, his a total mess".

The maid tilted her head, her bright blue eyes reflecting the somber expression on Verayth's face.

"It's not really about what he believes, but yours instead… what secrets does your eyes reveal to you mistress".

Verayth sighed lightly.

"Well there was one particular moment that caught my attention. Even though I used my bloodline ability, I honestly didn't know if he was telling the truth or not… He said to me, that he wasn't an Umbral kin, and that was after he said he was a human".

The maid chuckled lightly.

"Well it's pretty obvious which of his claims is a lie, see… not that mysterious afterall".

Verayth's penetrating blue eyes stared unwaveringly at the maid, it was almost like she was struggling within herself, struggling to trust her instincts, or her bloodline, a decision she'll have to make at some point in the future, but right now.

"The latter was a lie... And what's even more crazy is my bloodline ability thinks he's not an Umbral kin as well".

"Oh".

The maid expressed, but after a moment of confusion she added darkly.

"If your bloodline ability agrees he wasn't lying about not being an Umbral kin, and also thinks he's not human… If he's neither human, nor Umbral kin, then what in the world is he?".

… …

Elijah slumped down on his bed, buck naked, his eyes shifting unusually as the conversation between him and First Lieutenant Verayth came to mind.

"An ability that allows her to tell if a person is lying or not… The vampire elf race huh".

Elijah's brows crossed.

"When I said I was human, why did the crazy chick strangle me even harder, clearly she should have been able to realize I was telling the truth".

Suddenly Elijah jerked up, his expression that of realization.

"Clearly she knew I was telling the truth and wanted to extort more information from me, Yeah. It must be one of her clever tactics".

Elijah concluded, but he felt like he was missing something, her eyes didn't resemble someone that was trying to trick and extort another, it was more like.

"She was confused herself".

Elijah grabbed his blanked and went under the covers, he felt like he was almost hitting a nail through the plank, except the nail stubbornly refuses to pierce through to the other side.

"What if".

Elijah pulled away the covers and layed facing the ceiling of the tent, he was doubtful, but he was the type to face reality regardless of how scared of it he was.

That was how he survived the previous world, and that confrontational aspect of him won't ever change, his life had always been shitty, and God knows what made him feel like it could be any different in this new world.

"I should have known better, why did I waste so much time, this isn't like me, I need to survive like I previously did, I need to compete until I am better than the rest, I need to make myself special once more".

"System, I should have asked you this a lot sooner, but I might have well do so now… tell me my current stats, I want to see my status window, right now".

Elijah felt weightless staring at the miniature illusory green screen floating before him, of all the written text, two in particular stood out to Elijah.

Demon and he who has been forsaken.

Elijah laughed derisively at himself almost like the final act of a man who has given up on resisting.

"Are you kidding me, the forsaken part I get, I was literally abandoned on the day I was born, everyone I cared about never cared about me and stayed close to me only because of how talented I made myself appear, all the selfish bastards immediately leave once I'm no longer useful to them… But Demon, what the hell did I do to be forsaken by my own race, the only thing I had was being human, now you're telling me I don't even get to be…".

The system remained obstinate to Elijah's rant until he finally went silent.

[NOTICE: I am the Demon lord revival system, not the human lord revival system]

"Right, it was stupid of me to think otherwise".
