The next day.
The sky was still as dark and cloudy as ever, it was like the world itself was covered by a layer of miss, or miasma of some kind.
Elijah rose up and sat on the side of his bed, his expression cloudy but not worried or scared.
"Well that was the best sleep I had in like, well since I died and revived in a pile of corpses".
Elijah sucked in a load of air and exhaled, as if attempting to relieve himself of the turbid air.
Elijah freshened up and came out of the tent and found that the encampment was bustling a lot more than the previous day, clearly there were thousands of people that weren't soldiers in the camp.
But before Elijah could come to his own conclusion he spotted Taelia, standing with an ashen expression that screams murder me, anyone… and luckily for Elijah, she was only a stone throw away.
Elijah squeezed his way through the beastial looking crowd drawing annoyed yelps from them before finally making it to Taelia.
"Hey Taelia, looking helplessly adorable as usual".
"Oh hey Elijah, I see even sick patients have to enlist as well, the battlefront must really be in a dire straits".
Elijah smiled wearily.
"Yeah about that, I didn't actually hit my head, I was just messing with you cause I'm actually from another world, then I died and got Isekaied to this one, and about that part of not being Umbral kin, still not one, but apparently I'm not human as well, so hurray… Also you wouldn't believe what race I'm from".
At first, Taelia was preoccupied with the mass recruitment going on, but Elijah's random rant instantly took her attention from the prospect of certain death.
Her face was frozen in the most iconic mixture of intrigue and bewilderment.
"Arrumm, I was actually more engrossed with the fact that the military is doing a massive military recruitment of anyone ranging from age fifteen to seventy but you know what Elijah, please try me".
Elijah paused for a second before he realised he didn't particularly care about what Taelia was on about.
"Okay then, I'm a member of the Demon race, How cool is that".
Taelia sucked in her lips and twitched her eyelids in the most responsive way Elijah has ever seen.
"Umm, A member of the Demon race, Okay… I will keep that in mind".
Elijah nodded as well, although Taelia was nodding because she didn't believe what he was saying and she also just solidified his image with that of a mad man.
"So anyway, what was all that random stuff you were saying about fifteen and recruitment".
Taelia exhaled and calmed her waning mental trauma caused by Elijah's every sentence.
"Yeah, the military is drafting recruitments by force and enlisting them into the army, they make it sound all grand and noble but it's pretty obvious they are just looking for fodder for the defensive line".
"But what does that have to do with you, you don't look fifteen at all, surely you can show them your birth certificate or something and they'll let you be on your merry way".
"What's a birth cert… you know what, never mind… I turned fifteen yesterday so I'm getting drafted as well, but you know Elijah, you can avoid drafting if you show them that your condition has gotten worse".
Elijah's face was a picture of pure ignorance as he said with a straight face.
"What condition?".
Taelia shook her head from side to side with a pained moan.
Unbeknownst to Elijah and Taelia the long line has been moving steadily while they were having their conversation.
They made it to a miserable looking middle aged woman with a pair of cow horns growing from her head, she sat behind a desk filled with what seemed to be endless paperwork.
The woman wore a pair of glasses and a skin tight military uniform that came with a short skirt, Elijah instantly questioned what compelled him to look at her hairy thigh.
"Next".
Elijah and Taelia stepped forward at the same time, which made the woman cross her brows.
"What, you guys came to order a lovers deluxe package of death or something, come one at a bloody time… damned kill joys".
Elijah and Taelia looked at one another with the most compelling after you first expression, but in the end, Elijah stepped forward.
"Name?". The woman asked.
"Elijah, Just Elijah".
The woman raised a single brow but decided to just ignore the fact that he didn't have a surname, besides, it's not like he was the only one without one in the army.
"Which part of Erevos are you from?".
Elijah hmmed a little before replying in the most half heartedly way possible.
"Just write down this place, seems fitting enough".
The woman paused on Elijah's suspicious face, but nobody was paying her enough to care.
"Southern part of Erevos it is… Your age?".
"Seventeen".
The woman placed the full stop and raised her head to ask Elijah one final question.
"Which race are you from weirdo?".
"Demon".
Elijah answered with what Taelia believes to be a perfectly maintained doll-like demonic smirk, sometimes she wonders how he even keeps such faces straight and serious.
"Ofcourse… Demon".
Just as the woman was about to write it down, she paused, looked up at Elijah's innocent smiling face, and then smiled in response, clearly Elijah was starting to get to her.
"Yeah I'm not writing that down".
Taelia sighed in relief, it was good to know she wasn't the only sensible one that found what Elijah was saying weird, but she couldn't be blamed.
Elijah's genuine perplexed expression could throw anyone off their game.
"Well you asked me which race I'm from right".
"Right".
"Then I answered correctly. I'm from the demon race, I myself actually just learnt that yesterday night while I was in bed, the voice inside my head told me, so I couldn't possibly be wrong".
The woman's facial expression twisted in the most unnatural manner Taelia had ever seen, and she was raised in an unnatural environment herself.
"You're freaking insane, ain't you?".
