Chapter 2 - The search

Rachel sat at her desk, staring at Eli's instructions on her notepad. "Find me a fake wife," he had written. "Someone attractive, intelligent, and convincing. I need her to play the part for a few months, until the Smiths' investment is secured."

Rachel sighed, rubbing her temples. She had worked for Eli for several years, and she knew that he was a ruthless businessman who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. But she also knew that he was a complex person, driven by a desire to prove himself and make a name for himself in the business world.

With a sense of determination, Rachel began to search for the perfect candidate. She scrolled through various profiles on a matchmaking website, looking for someone who fit Eli's criteria. As she browsed through the profiles, one woman in particular caught her eye.

Her name was Rory Thompson, and she was a 28-year-old event planner who lived in the city. Rachel was immediately drawn to Rory's bright smile and sparkling eyes. She looked like the perfect candidate for the job.

Rachel clicked on Rory's profile and began to read through her bio. As she scrolled through the pages, she learned that Rory was a hardworking and ambitious woman who was struggling to make ends meet. Rachel's heart went out to her, and she knew that she had found the perfect candidate for the job.

But as Rachel continued to read through Rory's profile, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something wasn't quite right. Rory seemed like a lovely person, but Rachel couldn't help but wonder if she was desperate enough to take on a job like this.

Rachel's eyes narrowed as she thought about the situation. She knew that Eli was willing to pay top dollar for the right candidate, but she also knew that the job came with a lot of risks. If Rory was caught playing the part of Eli's fake wife, it could damage her reputation and hurt her business.

Despite her reservations, Rachel decided to take a chance on Rory. She picked up the phone and dialed Rory's number, hoping that she would answer.

As the phone rang, Rachel couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. She had a feeling that Rory was going to be the perfect candidate for the job, and she couldn't wait to meet her in person.

"Hello?" a bright voice answered on the other end of the line.

"Hi, is this Rory Thompson?" Rachel asked, trying to sound friendly and approachable.

"Yes, it is. Who's this?" Rory replied, her voice curious.

"My name is Rachel, and I'm calling from Jackson Enterprises. We're a business consulting firm, and we're looking for someone to fill a very unique position. I came across your profile online, and I think you might be the perfect candidate for the job."

Rory's voice was skeptical. "What kind of job is it?"

Rachel hesitated for a moment before responding. "It's a bit unconventional, but I think it could be a great opportunity for you. Are you available to meet in person to discuss the details?"

Rory's voice was cautious. "I suppose so. When were you thinking?"

Rachel smiled to herself. She had her. "How about tomorrow at 2 pm? I'll send a car to pick you up."

Rory's voice was hesitant, but Rachel could sense her curiosity. "Okay, that sounds fine. I'll see you tomorrow."

Rachel hung up the phone, feeling a sense of excitement. She had found the perfect candidate for the job, and she couldn't wait to see how things would play out.

As she sat at her desk, staring at Rory's profile on her computer screen, Rachel couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, this fake marriage would be the answer to both Eli's and Rory's prayers.
