Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten: A Witch’s Redemption

Sophia's hands trembled as the green fire grew brighter, casting eerie shadows across her tear-streaked face. The rogues paused mid-charge, their glowing eyes flicking toward her, unsure of her next move. Alaric turned, his smirk faltering.

"Sophia," he said, his tone sharp and commanding. "Stand down. You've already proven your loyalty."

Elijah and Lucas braced themselves, waiting for the inevitable blow. But Sophia's fire didn't strike them—or the rogues. Instead, she hurled the flames directly at Alaric.

The blast hit him square in the chest, sending him sprawling.

"Loyalty?" Sophia yelled, her voice echoing with power. "You don't know the meaning of the word!"

The battlefield froze for a split second before erupting into chaos.

"Sophia!" Elijah barked, springing into action. He slashed through the nearest rogue, his movements precise and lethal. Lucas followed suit, his wolf form tearing into their attackers with renewed vigor.

Sophia darted to Elijah's side, her magic flaring to protect them from the onslaught. "I'm sorry, Elijah," she said, her voice breaking. "I thought I could protect everyone, but I only made things worse."

"You made the right call," Elijah said, his tone firm despite the chaos. "Now, let's finish this."

Alaric rose from the ground, his chest heaving with fury. The green fire had burned through his shirt, exposing deep claw marks on his torso that glowed with corrupted energy. His eyes flared crimson as he let out a thunderous howl.

"You think this changes anything?" he snarled. "You'll all die here tonight!"

Dark energy coiled around Alaric like living shadows, and his form began to shift. His already hulking figure grew larger, more monstrous, his fur taking on an unnatural black sheen that absorbed the light.

Elijah stepped forward, the Moonfang Blade glowing with an otherworldly radiance. "Not if I stop you."

The two alphas clashed, their fight shaking the ground beneath them. Alaric's corrupted strength was overwhelming, but Elijah's determination and the Moonfang Blade kept him in the fight. Each swing of the blade sent bursts of light through the darkness, momentarily driving back the shadowy tendrils that surrounded Alaric.

Lucas and Sophia fought to hold off the remaining rogues. Lucas, now in human form, wielded a silver blade he had hidden in his jacket, cutting down the enemies with practiced ease.

Sophia's magic was relentless, her hands glowing as she formed barriers and fired bolts of energy at the rogues.

"Elijah needs backup!" Lucas shouted, his voice hoarse from exertion.

Sophia nodded, summoning a surge of magic. She focused it into a single, concentrated orb of energy and hurled it at Alaric. The blast hit him in the back, staggering him and giving Elijah an opening.

Elijah didn't hesitate. He drove the Moonfang Blade into Alaric's chest, the blade glowing fiercely as it absorbed the rogue alpha's dark energy.

Alaric let out a deafening roar, his monstrous form convulsing as the corrupted energy was torn from him. The shadows around him dissipated, leaving him gasping and weakened.

Elijah stepped back, his chest heaving as he watched Alaric collapse to his knees.

"It's over," Elijah said, his voice steady.

Alaric looked up at him, his eyes dimming. "You think you've won?" he rasped. "The Eclipse Order… they'll… come for you…"

With those final words, Alaric's body crumbled into ash, the remnants of his corrupted power dissipating into the night.

The remaining rogues, seeing their leader defeated, scattered into the forest. Elijah, Lucas, and Sophia stood in the aftermath, their bodies battered but their spirits unbroken.

Sophia broke the silence. "I know I can't undo what I've done," she said, her voice trembling. "But I'll do whatever it takes to make this right."

Elijah placed a hand on her shoulder. "You already have. You saved us tonight, Sophia. That counts for something."

Lucas gave her a grudging nod. "Just don't make a habit of it, alright?"

Sophia managed a small, tearful smile.

Back at the crypt, the mood was tense. The news of Alaric's death spread quickly, but so did the revelation of Sophia's betrayal.

"She put us all at risk," Marcus growled during a heated meeting. "How can we trust her?"

"She made a mistake," Elijah said firmly. "But she also helped us take down Alaric. If it weren't for her, we'd all be dead."

The room fell silent as Marcus glared at Sophia, who stood quietly at the back of the room. Finally, he sighed and sat down. "Fine. But if she so much as looks like she's turning on us again…"

"She won't," Elijah said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Later that night, Elijah stood outside the crypt, the Moonfang Blade resting at his side. The stars above seemed brighter, unclouded by the shadow of Alaric's influence.

Sophia joined him, her arms wrapped around herself for warmth.

"Thank you," she said softly.

"For what?"

"For giving me a second chance. For believing in me."

Elijah looked at her, his expression unreadable. "You earned it. But this isn't over. The Eclipse Order is still out there, and they're going to come for all of us."

Sophia nodded, her jaw set with determination. "Then we'll be ready."

Elijah turned back to the sky, his mind already racing with plans. Alaric was only the beginning. The real battle was yet to come, and he knew they'd need every ally they could find.

Because in the shadows, something far more dangerous was watching.
