Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Into the Shadows

The forest ahead seemed alive, its gnarled trees twisting under the dim glow of the crescent moon. Elijah led the group deeper into the woods, his golden eyes scanning every shadow. The air felt suffocating, heavy with a sinister energy that made his skin crawl.

Lucas broke the tense silence. "Are we even sure this place exists? Feels like we're walking straight into a trap."

Elijah's jaw tightened. "If the Shadow Maw is real, it's where we'll find him. If it's not, we're still cutting off his influence in the forest. Either way, we don't have a choice."

Sophia's voice was softer than usual as she walked beside Elijah, her spellbook glowing faintly in her hands. "I can feel it. The energy here… it's old. And it's watching us."

They pushed on, the forest's natural sounds fading into an eerie silence. Elijah's steps slowed. He raised a hand to signal the others to stop.

"What is it?" Lucas whispered.

Elijah inhaled deeply, his heightened senses picking up the faintest shift in the air. "We're not alone."

Red eyes began to appear in the darkness, first one pair, then dozens, surrounding them in an unbroken circle. The rogue wolves emerged, their hulking forms larger and more twisted than before, their movements unnaturally precise.

"They're stronger," Lucas muttered as he shifted, his gray fur bristling. "This is going to get messy."

"Defensive positions!" Elijah commanded, his voice sharp and commanding. Without hesitation, the group formed a tight circle.

The wolves attacked.

The clearing erupted into chaos as the rogue pack lunged. Claws slashed and spells ignited the darkness in brilliant bursts of light. Sophia stood at the center, her fire-based wards protecting their rear while Lucas tore into the attackers with raw ferocity. Elijah was a blur of movement, his towering werewolf form cutting through the rogues with deadly precision.

The tide began to turn, but the rogues didn't back down. They fought as if driven by something greater, something far more dangerous.

Then it came.

A low, guttural growl rippled through the forest, silencing the chaos. The rogues froze mid-attack and retreated into the shadows as if summoned.

The shadows themselves shifted, swirling together until a figure emerged—a massive, humanoid wolf cloaked in darkness, his crimson eyes burning like embers. His presence was suffocating, his aura ancient and terrifying.

"Elijah," Sophia whispered, her voice trembling. "That's him."

The Shadow Alpha stepped forward, his towering form radiating power. His voice was a deep, menacing rumble. "So, the Unseen Alpha finally shows himself. You've come far, but you've made a grave mistake coming here."

Elijah shifted back into his human form, meeting the Shadow Alpha's gaze without flinching. "Your time is over. You've terrorized our kind long enough."

The Shadow Alpha laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the forest. "You think you can challenge me? Your bloodline is mine. You were destined for this moment, Elijah. You were born to serve me."

Elijah's golden eyes flared with defiance. "I wasn't born to serve anyone. I was born to lead. And I'm not afraid of you."

The Shadow Alpha's grin widened, his fangs glinting. "Brave words, boy. Let's see if you can back them up."

The ground trembled as the Shadow Alpha unleashed a wave of dark energy, signaling the start of a battle that would determine the fate of the supernatural world.
