The sun was just beginning to rise above the mountains, casting its first golden rays over Konoha. The fresh morning air enveloped the village, bringing with it a soft breeze that made the tree leaves dance. The streets were still quiet, with only the first teams of shinobi moving about, preparing for their daily missions. The horizon was painted in shades of orange and pink, heralding a clear and peaceful day.
At the center of a secluded training ground, Naruto was already in place, his face marked with determination. His bright gaze locked onto his opponent for the day: Neji. The young Hyuga stood poised, calm, and focused, his eyes glowing with a supernatural light thanks to his Byakugan.
"Are you sure you really want to do this?" Neji asked, adjusting his forehead protector.
"I won't let you avoid me this time, Neji!" Naruto replied, a defiant grin on his lips.
"Very well. Prepare yourself."
Without warning, Neji launched his attack, his speed immediately unsettling Naruto. Their movements blurred in quick succession. Neji dodged every strike Naruto attempted, his Byakugan allowing him to see each move in advance. Initially overwhelmed, Naruto began adjusting his stance. He struck, but Neji was always there, ready to block or counter with impressive ease.
Naruto lunged forward, delivering a high-speed roundhouse kick aimed at Neji's head. The Hyuga calmly blocked the attack with his arm, pivoting slightly on his feet to deliver a swift strike to Naruto's ribs, throwing him off balance.
"You need to be more unpredictable, Naruto. Don't rely on simple strikes; your technique must flow," Neji explained, carefully observing the blonde's movements.
Naruto, slightly shaken but refusing to back down, straightened up and attempted a quick flurry of punches. Yet Neji, with his Byakugan, anticipated each move before Naruto could execute them. He blocked with surgical precision, leaving no openings.
"Use your mind as much as your muscles," Neji continued, countering one of Naruto's attacks with an extended arm and swiftly launching a counterstrike.
Naruto growled in frustration but didn't slow down. Once more, he launched into the fray, more resolved than ever. This time, he aimed a sidekick at Neji's legs, intending to limit his mobility. Neji blocked the attack with one arm, but Naruto used the momentum to follow up quickly with a knee strike, hitting the Hyuga in the abdomen.
Neji stepped back, momentarily surprised by the speed of the attack, but quickly regained his combat stance. He observed Naruto intently.
"Good. You're starting to get the idea, but you still lack anticipation. When you strike, analyze your opponent, not just your own movement."
Naruto, panting but still determined, shot Neji a frustrated look.
"How do you do it, huh? How do you know what I'm going to do before I even do it?"
Neji sidestepped a kick from Naruto, delivering a quick strike to his shoulder, forcing him to retreat.
"It's not about knowing what you'll do. It's about perceiving your intention before it fully forms. If you learn to read the signals your body gives off, you'll know when and where to strike."
Naruto, breathless but resolute, refused to quit. He focused his energy and charged at Neji, this time mixing his attacks into a fluid series of punches, kicks, and knee strikes. Neji blocked the foot strike, raised a hand to parry a fast punch, and in one fluid motion, landed a blow to Naruto's abdomen, sending him to the ground.
"Focus on the natural flow of your body, not just brute strength," Neji advised as he stepped back.
Naruto, eyes blazing with frustration, quickly stood up again. He was tired of advice, but deep down, he knew Neji was right. This time, he resumed his attack with a new strategy: instead of charging blindly, he focused on understanding Neji's movements.
The two shinobi sparred for another two hours. As the minutes passed, Naruto began to grasp the fundamentals of close combat. He anticipated Neji's moves better, blocked several attacks, and managed to counter with increasing precision.
Finally, they called for a break. Naruto, exhausted but satisfied, removed his jacket, revealing a body sculpted by years of training. He sat on the grass, his breathing heavy, but his gaze determined. Neji, sitting cross-legged, remained calm as ever.
Naruto lay back in the grass, watching the clouds drift across the morning sky.
"How do you stay so calm during a fight, Neji? Even when things get intense, you never seem fazed."
Neji slowly turned his gaze to him, wisdom gleaming in his eyes.
"It's not about staying calm, Naruto. It's about accepting what's beyond your control. What happens in your mind and heart reflects in your actions. If you stay composed, your body will follow."
Naruto raised an eyebrow, an amused grin on his face.
"So you're telling me I need to stay calm even when I'm getting beaten up?"
Neji smiled faintly.
"Exactly. But that will come with time. You have the potential. Now you just need to master it."
Naruto chuckled softly.
"Well, I've got a long way to go, but I'll get there. I'm going to get stronger!"
Neji nodded, a slight smile on his lips.
"I have no doubt about that."
As Neji stood, brushing grass from his clothes, he glanced at Naruto's progress with quiet approval. He began walking away without another word, but before he could leave, Naruto called out.
"Hey, Neji, wait!"
Neji turned, raising an eyebrow.
"What?"
"You're not tired yet, are you? Tomorrow, we're training again, okay?"
Neji observed him with a flicker of hesitation before sighing.
"Fine. But not before dawn."
Naruto grinned, pleased.
"Perfect! See you tomorrow!"
Neji nodded and walked off into the distance, his measured steps and impassive expression unchanged. He disappeared over the horizon, leaving Naruto alone on the training field.
Naruto stretched as he got up, looking at the sky with a smile. He still had much to learn, but he felt like he was making progress, step by step. Training with Neji had been tough, but every moment mattered for his growth.
As he headed for the exit, he spotted Jiraiya walking slowly, looking pensive. His shoulders slumped slightly, as if burdened by an invisible weight. Curious, Naruto called out to his master.
"Hey, Jiraiya-sensei!"
The Sannin turned to him slowly, his gaze distant.
"Naruto…"
"What's on your mind? You look... troubled."
Jiraiya sighed, a tired smile on his face.
"Nothing serious, kid. Just… things to take care of."
Naruto watched him curiously, intrigued.
