Chapter 114 - A Sister's Plea

The quiet hum of the van's engine was the only sound breaking the silence as Lucas and Zara drove away from the chaotic scene at the Council of Shadows. The folder Lucas had retrieved was now spread open on Zara's makeshift workstation, revealing intricate plans of Kane's underground vault. The tension between them was palpable; every passing moment brought them closer to a final confrontation they weren't sure they could win.

Just as Zara began decoding the final piece of the map, Lucas's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, his brows furrowing. The call was from an untraceable number.

"Who is it?" Zara asked.

Lucas hesitated but answered. "Hello?"

A familiar voice came through the line, trembling but determined. "Lucas, it's Meera."

Lucas sat up straighter, his chest tightening at the sound of his sister's voice. "Meera? Where are you? Are you okay?"

"I don't have much time," Meera said hurriedly. "I'm calling to warn you. Kane knows you took the map. He's already making moves to secure the vault."

Lucas exchanged a glance with Zara, who was listening in through the van's speakers. "How do you know this?"

There was a pause, and when Meera spoke again, her voice was laced with guilt. "Because I'm with him."

The weight of her confession hit Lucas like a punch to the gut. He leaned back in his seat, his mind racing. "You're with Kane? Meera, what are you doing? He's the enemy!"

"I didn't have a choice!" Meera's voice broke, and Lucas could hear the tears in her words. "After everything that happened with Sahil, I thought Kane was the only one who could protect me. But I was wrong, Lucas. He's using me, and now he's forcing me to help him."

Lucas closed his eyes, trying to suppress the anger and betrayal that boiled within him. "You could've come to me. I would've protected you."

"I didn't think you could," Meera admitted, her voice soft but filled with regret. "I thought Kane's power was the only thing that could keep me safe. But now... now I see how wrong I was."

Zara leaned over and whispered, "Ask her what she knows. If she's sincere, she might be able to help us."

Lucas nodded. "Meera, if you really want to make things right, you have to help me. What does Kane plan to do with the key?"

There was a long silence, and for a moment, Lucas thought she had hung up. But then Meera whispered, "He doesn't just want the key, Lucas. He wants what's hidden behind it. There's a weapon in the vault—something powerful enough to destroy anyone who stands in his way. He'll use it to wipe out his enemies, including you."

Lucas's grip on the phone tightened. The stakes had just risen to unimaginable heights. "Why are you telling me this now?"

"Because I can't let him win," Meera said, her voice firmer now. "I don't know how to stop him, but I know you can. Please, Lucas, promise me you'll stop him."

Lucas hesitated. There was still so much he didn't know about Meera's involvement with Kane, but he could hear the sincerity in her voice. Despite her mistakes, she was still his sister.

"I promise," he said finally. "But I need more from you. Can you get out? Can you meet me somewhere safe?"

"I'll try," Meera replied. "But Lucas... if I don't make it, you have to keep going. Don't let Kane win."

Before Lucas could respond, the line went dead. He stared at the phone, a sinking feeling in his chest.

"She's taking a big risk," Zara said cautiously. "Do you trust her?"

Lucas nodded slowly. "I have to. She's my sister."

A Race Against Time

With Meera's warning echoing in his mind, Lucas and Zara drove to a safe house on the outskirts of the city. As they prepared for their next move, Zara continued decrypting the map. Each new layer revealed more about the vault's defenses motion sensors, armed guards, and a state-of-the-art locking mechanism.

"This isn't going to be easy," Zara muttered, her eyes scanning the blueprints.

"It never is," Lucas replied, his jaw set with determination.

Just as they were finalizing their plan, there was a knock at the door. Both of them froze, exchanging wary glances. Lucas reached for his gun, motioning for Zara to stay back.

He approached the door cautiously and peered through the peephole. To his surprise, it was Meera, her face pale and bruised. He quickly unlocked the door and pulled her inside.

"Meera!" he exclaimed. "What happened?"

She stumbled into his arms, her breathing ragged. "I managed to get away, but they're coming. Kane knows I called you."

Zara locked the door behind her, her fingers flying over her laptop to activate the building's security system. "How much time do we have?"

"Not enough," Meera said, clutching her side. "Lucas, there's something else. Kane... he doesn't just want the weapon. He wants you."

Lucas frowned. "What do you mean?"

Meera hesitated, as if the weight of her next words would shatter everything. "You're the only one who can unlock the weapon. It's tied to our family—our bloodline. That's why he's been hunting you all this time."

The revelation hit Lucas like a thunderclap. His mind raced as he tried to process what Meera was saying. If what she claimed was true, then Kane's entire plan hinged on him.

Before he could respond, the sound of tires screeching outside shattered the tense silence. Zara looked up from her laptop, her face pale. "They're here."

Lucas grabbed Meera and pushed her toward Zara. "Get her to safety. I'll hold them off."

"No!" Meera protested, grabbing his arm. "You can't do this alone!"

"I don't have a choice," Lucas said firmly. "If Kane wants me, he'll have to come and get me. But I need you both alive to finish this."

Zara hesitated but nodded, pulling Meera toward the back exit. "We'll find a way out. Don't do anything stupid."

Lucas watched them disappear into the shadows, his heart heavy with the weight of his decision. As the first wave of enforcers burst through the door, he took a deep breath, preparing for the fight of his life.

The room exploded into chaos as bullets flew and fists collided. Lucas fought with everything he had, his determination fueled by the promise he had made to Meera.

But just as he gained the upper hand, a figure emerged from the smoke-filled doorway. It was Kane, his cold eyes locking onto Lucas with a predatory gleam.

"Well, well," Kane said, his voice dripping with malice. "The prodigal son finally stands before me. Let's see if you're as strong as they say."

Before Lucas could respond, Kane raised a small device and pressed a button. A deafening alarm filled the room, and the walls began to shift. Hidden panels slid open, revealing a swarm of armed guards.

Lucas's heart sank as he realized he was completely surrounded. Kane stepped closer, his smile widening.

"This is where it ends, Lucas," Kane said, his voice echoing ominously. "But don't worry—I'll take good care of your sister."

Lucas clenched his fists, refusing to give in to fear. "You'll never win, Kane."

Kane chuckled, his confidence unshaken. "We'll see about that."

As the guards closed in, Lucas's mind raced. He knew this wasn't just a battle for survival it was a battle for everything he held dear.

And somewhere in the distance, Zara and Meera were running out of time.
