Chapter 115 - The Heist

The dim glow of the monitor lit Zara's face as her fingers danced over the keyboard. Blueprints of Kane's underground vault filled the screen, detailing every layer of security. Sitting beside her, Meera studied the plans with a mix of determination and fear. Meanwhile, Lucas, battered but resolute after his confrontation with Kane, leaned against the table, formulating a plan.

"We have one shot at this," Lucas said, his voice steady. "If Kane gets his hands on what's inside that vault, it's over not just for us, but for everyone he considers a threat."

Zara nodded, her eyes scanning the security protocols. "The vault is practically a fortress. Laser grids, biometric locks, motion sensors… and armed guards everywhere. But I found a weak point."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Where?"

"The south entrance," Zara explained. "It's disguised as a maintenance tunnel. The guards rotate every 15 minutes, and during that window, we can slip in."

Meera frowned. "Even if we get in, how do we bypass the biometric lock? Isn't it tied to Kane?"

Zara smirked, holding up a small device. "I built a replicator. If we can get close enough to Kane or one of his key lieutenants, this will clone their biometric signature. We'll use it to unlock the vault."

Lucas crossed his arms. "Getting close to Kane isn't exactly easy."

Meera hesitated before speaking. "I might have a way. Kane trusts me at least, he thinks he does. I can get close to him during the gala he's hosting tonight."

Lucas frowned. "That's too risky. If he suspects anything, you're as good as dead."

Meera met his gaze, her expression unwavering. "I've already made too many mistakes. Let me help fix this."

Lucas studied her for a moment, then nodded reluctantly. "Fine. But we do this together. No one goes off on their own."

The team spent the next few hours gathering supplies and finalizing their plan. Zara rigged communication devices for everyone, ensuring they could stay connected during the mission. Lucas tested the weapons, his hands steady despite the weight of what lay ahead.

Meera donned a sleek black gown for the gala, her hair styled elegantly to blend in with the wealthy and powerful attendees. She looked like someone who belonged in Kane's world, though her eyes betrayed her unease.

"Are you sure about this?" Lucas asked as he adjusted the tiny earpiece in her ear.

Meera nodded. "I have to be."

The gala was held in a lavish mansion, its grand halls filled with glittering chandeliers and well-dressed guests. Kane stood at the center of the room, exuding confidence as he mingled with his guests. Meera approached him cautiously, forcing a smile as she joined his side.

"Ah, Meera," Kane said, his voice smooth and calculated. "You look stunning tonight."

"Thank you," she replied, her voice steady despite her racing heart. "I wanted to talk to you about something… private."

Kane raised an eyebrow but gestured for her to follow him to a quieter corner. As they walked, Meera activated the replicator hidden in her bracelet. The device hummed softly as it scanned Kane's biometric signature.

"I'm glad you're here," Kane said, his tone laced with suspicion. "Loyalty is such a rare quality these days."

Meera forced a laugh. "Of course, Kane. You know you can always count on me."

The replicator beeped softly, signaling that it had completed its task. Meera exhaled in relief but maintained her composure.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Zara made their way to the south entrance of the vault. Disguised as maintenance workers, they slipped past the rotating guards and entered the tunnel. Zara used a device to disable the motion sensors, while Lucas kept watch.

"We're in," Zara whispered into her comms. "Meera, are you okay?"

Meera's voice crackled through the earpiece. "I got the signature. Uploading it now."

Zara's screen lit up as the data transferred. She quickly programmed the replicator to mimic Kane's biometric signature. "Got it. Let's move."

They reached the main vault door, a massive steel structure adorned with glowing security panels. Zara placed the replicator against the scanner, holding her breath as the machine analyzed the data.

A green light blinked, and the vault door began to open.

"We're in," Zara said, a mix of relief and excitement in her voice.

The vault's interior was as grand as it was ominous. Shelves lined with priceless artifacts and stacks of gold bars filled the room. But at the center stood a glass case containing the weapon Kane sought—a sleek, black device pulsating with an eerie blue light.

"What is that?" Lucas asked, his eyes narrowing.

Zara scanned the device with her tablet. "It's an EMP disruptor—powerful enough to knock out the grid of an entire city. In the wrong hands, it could cripple governments and armies."

Lucas nodded. "Then we destroy it."

As they prepared to disable the weapon, an alarm blared through the vault. Lucas spun around, his gun drawn.

"They know we're here," Zara said, panic creeping into her voice.

The vault doors slammed shut, and armed guards poured in from hidden entrances. Lucas and Zara took cover, firing back as the room erupted into chaos.

"Meera!" Lucas shouted into his earpiece. "We've been compromised. Get out of there!"

But there was no response.

Lucas's heart sank. He could hear the sound of Kane's voice echoing over the comms.

"Well, well," Kane said, his tone mocking. "Did you really think I wouldn't see this coming? You've played your part beautifully, Meera."

Lucas clenched his fists, his rage fueling his fight against the guards. But as the odds stacked against them, he knew they couldn't hold out much longer.

"Zara, grab the device," Lucas ordered. "We can't leave it here."

Zara hesitated but obeyed, dodging gunfire as she secured the EMP disruptor in a protective case.

"We need an exit," she said, her voice urgent.

Lucas activated a hidden explosive charge, creating a makeshift escape route through the side wall. "This way!"

As they fled the vault, Lucas's mind raced with worry for Meera. The last thing he had heard was Kane's sinister laugh, and the thought of what might happen to his sister filled him with dread.

Outside, Zara piloted their getaway van, weaving through the dark streets. Lucas sat in the back, gripping the case containing the EMP
