Lucas had been holding onto his emotions for so long that when the moment finally came, it felt as if a dam had broken inside him. He had kept the truth locked away, buried under layers of pride and fear, but now he knew it was time to tell Amelia everything.
The two of them sat together in the dimly lit room, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words. Amelia had always been there for him, supporting him through the hardest moments of his life. But despite her unwavering loyalty, Lucas had kept a distance, afraid that if he revealed his true feelings, he would lose her.
But now, seeing her so close, Lucas couldn't hold back any longer. He looked into her eyes, his heart racing as he tried to find the right words. It was hard to explain, but he knew he had to.
"Amelia," he began, his voice soft but full of emotion, "there's something I need to tell you. Something I should have told you a long time ago."
Amelia looked at him with a mix of concern and curiosity. "What is it, Lucas? You can tell me anything."
Lucas took a deep breath. He hadn't realized just how much he had been carrying until now. The weight of the truth felt heavier than ever, but he couldn't let it control him anymore.
"I'm not who you think I am," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "All these years, I've been pretending. I've been hiding parts of myself from you, and it's not fair to you. You deserve the truth, even if it's difficult."
Amelia frowned, her brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean? Lucas, you're my best friend. I don't care about your past. I care about you."
But Lucas shook his head. "It's not just my past. It's who I've become. I've made mistakes, mistakes that hurt others, and I've been running from them for so long. But now, I can't run anymore. I need to face the consequences of my actions."
Amelia reached for his hand, squeezing it gently. "You don't have to do this alone. I'm here, Lucas. I always will be."
Lucas smiled faintly, but the sadness in his eyes was unmistakable. He knew Amelia was there for him, but there were some things that even her love couldn't fix. Some things that could never be undone.
"Amelia, I've made a deal with someone," Lucas continued, his voice barely above a whisper. "A deal I should have never made. It's the reason I've kept my distance from you. It's the reason I've been so distant, so guarded. I didn't want you to be dragged into the mess I created."
Amelia's face went pale. "What kind of deal, Lucas? What are you talking about?"
Lucas hesitated, the weight of his words almost suffocating him. "I've been working with Victoria."
Amelia's eyes widened in shock. "Victoria? But she's your enemy. You told me—"
"I know," Lucas interrupted, his voice full of regret. "I made a mistake, and now I'm paying the price. I thought I could control the situation, but it's spiraled out of control. Victoria is dangerous, and I've been too blind to see it."
Amelia sat back in her chair, her mind racing as she processed his words. This was the last thing she had expected to hear. She had always thought of Lucas as someone she could trust completely. But now, the truth felt like a betrayal.
"Why, Lucas? Why would you work with her? After everything she's done?" Amelia asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
Lucas looked down at his hands, guilt written all over his face. "It wasn't my choice. I was forced into it. Victoria threatened the people I love, and I couldn't risk losing them. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I was wrong."
Amelia took a deep breath, trying to process everything. Her heart ached as she realized just how much Lucas had suffered. He had made mistakes, but they were not without reason. Still, she couldn't ignore the fact that he had been keeping secrets from her all this time.
"I don't know what to say," Amelia admitted softly. "I want to believe you, but this is so much to take in. I need time to think."
Lucas nodded, understanding her pain. "I don't expect you to forgive me right away. I just wanted you to know the truth. I never wanted to hurt you, Amelia. I never wanted to put you in danger."
Amelia stood up, her mind spinning with a thousand thoughts. She couldn't deny the pain she felt, but at the same time, she couldn't ignore the love she still had for Lucas. Despite everything, she cared for him deeply.
"I'll think about it," she said, her voice trembling. "I need to figure this out. But you need to understand, Lucas. This changes everything."
As she turned to leave, Lucas called out to her. "Amelia, wait."
She stopped and looked back at him, her heart pounding in her chest. "What is it?"
"I'll do whatever it takes to make things right," Lucas said, his voice filled with determination. "I'll fix this. I promise."
Amelia hesitated for a moment before nodding. "You'd better. Because if this is really the end for us, then you have a lot to prove."
With that, she walked out of the room, leaving Lucas standing alone with his thoughts. As he watched her go, he knew that the road ahead would not be easy. But he was determined to make things right, no matter what it took.
As Lucas stood there, his heart heavy with regret, he received a sudden notification on his phone. The message was from an unknown number.
"You think you've made things right? Think again. I know everything."
The blood ran cold in Lucas's veins as he read the chilling message. He had no idea who sent it, but one thing was certain: his past was about to catch up with him in a way he couldn't escape.
