Everyone took turns using the rope and comes down one by one, Marc was the last one on the line.
Below the well, the guards couldn't really see anything after arriving, but fortunately Captain Jade brought a lantern on his waist, he grabbed it and looked at his subordinate before talking.
"Which one of you fucker said that they can create fire."
Everyone else beside Captain Jade quickly directing their eyes towards Feres, the youngest one among them.
"Feres, that's you.." Said Eldi.
"Ah, yes.. It's me captain."
Feres's eyes were fixed to the ground the whole time as he was not brave enough to look at the captain straight in the eyes, even at the fortress, when they're all gathered together to do their usual training, Feres is known to be a loner, he doesn't really interact much with everyone else, and instead focused on training alone, no one knows why he acts like that but at one point they just come to an agreement to not bother him and just let him do his thing.
"Burn this" Said Captain Jade as he gave the lantern to Feres.
"A- alright.."
Feres opened the lantern and put his index finger at the candle tip.
< FIRE >
A voice spoke to Feres, no one else was able to hear it, the voice sounded like an adult male that came straight from his heart, like he was imagining the voice.
Soon, a small fire appeared at the tip of his finger and he lit up the lantern, giving light to everyone's surrounding.
"Great, now give me that."
Captain Jade snatched the lantern from Feres with force, briefly startling him.
"Let's go."
Everyone followed their captain, slowly going deeper into the unknown darkness that looks like a sewer usually seen in large cities.
The fire that Feres produced is really small but its still fire so it can be used for a lot of things, whilst everyone else weren't able to use magic, Feres was one of the lucky or not so lucky few that is born with a mana heart for fire element.
Some might say that he should be a mage because of it, but unfortunately the amount of mana that he can store inside of his mana heart are extremely small compared to the average magician, all he could do is cast a small fire ontop of his palm, the size of the fire is merely 3 centimeters, because of that Feres was forced to abandon his dream to become a mage and instead aimed to become a knight.
'I never got to personally talk to Feres, but i assume his personality comes from the disappointment that he and other people felt when they realized that Feres couldn't become a mage'
Eldi remembered somethings in the past, back then, when they first discovered that Feres could use magic, Feres was so overwhelmed by the attention and questions that were constantly thrown at him that his eyes looked as if they were a whirlpool.
'That was entirely our fault if i had to be honest, but we couldn't hold our excitement since a guard that could use magic is unheard of, i mean who wants to become a guard when they can be a magician..' Eldi thought.
When Feres was able to calm down after a while, he and the other member of Division 4 had a short conversation, that conversation ended with Feres telling them a little bit about his past, to which is the reason why Eldi knew about Feres's abandoned dream.
'That was also the last time i ever had a conversation with him, now he and i are just a partner'
Eldi decided to stop thinking about the past and instead focused with what hes currently dealing with in here, right now he is surrounded by nothing but darkness, with the lantern being their only source of light, he takes a quick look at his left, there was a water that seems to be still and has no movement or current, Eldi could vaguely see the color of the water, it was green, that is enough to convince him that there is something wrong in here.
'I didn't remember this town having a sewer system— Everyone knows that their waste is thrown into the shit backyard, and not this sewer, also Chief Garr doesn't have that kind of money to build this, this is strange no matter how you see it..'
'And i don't know if i should ask this to that asshole, but how the fuck did captain knew this place existed.. No one else in the fortress or other division knew about this— Atleast i dont think they know, did he really stumbled upon this while he was taking a walk?'
Eldi thinks that something doesn't make much sense, and his guts is telling him that he might be in danger, but he couldn't escape no matter if he tried, his captain would know and kill him on the spot.
After what seems to be a 10 minutes of walking, Captain Jade finally stopped, his sudden stopping caused everyone that is following him to bump into him.
'Oh shit..' Eldi thought, worried that Captain Jade might be angered by it.
Not just him, but Marc, Feres, and Anton are also worried, they all simultaneously looked at Captain Jade, hoping that he would spare them, Captain Jade turned his head towards them and just as they were thinking that their life is done for, Captain Jade instead told them..
"It's here."
"Huh?.." Said everyone, confused as what they had just heard.
Captain Jade stretched his hand to the front, giving more light to what's infront of him, and what he saw was a brick wall with wooden door that doesn't seem to be locked.
"W- what the.." Said Anton, the guy that had the most muscle among us.
Everyone's jaw are also fallen to the ground, they saw the walls covered with various symbols that they have no knowledge of its meaning, its either there as some kind of a design or a secret code that has yet to be deciphered.
"Captain, do you know what this is.." Said Marc
"What kind of question is that, of course i dont know idiot, that's why we're here to uncover its secret, fucking stupid.. Im fighting the urge to throw you into the water right now."
Captain Jade walked closer to the wall, more specifically the wooden door that is infront of him, there was no window to look at whats beyond the door, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't open it.
Clack!
The door handle rotates and Captain Jade pushed the door open, as soon as the air that is inside the room was revealed to the outside, a thick and pungent smell hit their nose like a gigantic boulder crushing their skull into debris.
"UGH!.."
Everyone except Captain Jade immediately covered their nose to the smell, it was so unbearable that everyone in Division 4 can feel their stomach acid rising up, trying to make them throw up.
'WHAT IS THIS SMELL!? URRKHH..' Eldi thought, he can see a black smoke coming from the room, its most likely the air inside, because of how contaminated the air is, it started to take a dark color instead of being invisible.
'I feel like i was in the middle of a graveyard that had thousands of rotten corpses surrounding me..'
'No.. Its not just rotten corpse, but also blood.. a rotten blood'
