Chapter 31 - Chapter 29: James vs Noland. Part 2.

The battle resumed with palpable energy, the air vibrating with excitement as both trainers prepared for the next confrontation. Noland, with his red cap slightly tilted to one side, smiled confidently as he looked at his next Pokémon.

—It's time for you to take action! —he shouted, throwing his Poké Ball into the air. From it emerged an imposing Venusaur, its green leaves shining brightly under the stadium lights. The flower on its back seemed to come alive, and the crowd erupted in cheers at the majesty of the plant Pokémon.

James felt a mix of respect and challenge upon seeing Venusaur. He knew this Pokémon was not only strong but also had a special ability that could turn the tide of battle. With his blue hair soaked in sweat, he ran a hand through it as he prepared to continue.

Noland frowned, focused. He knew that Venusaur's power would increase with the right weather conditions. Determined to take the lead, he shouted:

—Venusaur! Use Sunny Day!

The sky seemed to brighten even more as Venusaur summoned a brilliant glow that filled the battlefield. Venusaur's Chlorophyll ability activated, doubling its speed and making it even more formidable.

James was not intimidated by the climate change:

—Golduck! Use Hydro Pump!

A torrent of water shot towards Venusaur, but Noland was ready.

—Venusaur! Use Protect!

A shining barrier surrounded Venusaur, stopping Golduck's attack dead in its tracks. The crowd cheered at the display of strategy. James knew he needed to change his approach.

—Golduck! Use Water Pulse!

Golduck launched a series of water waves towards Venusaur. The plant Pokémon moved quickly thanks to its increased speed.

—Venusaur! Use Vine Whip!

Vines sprouted from the flower on Venusaur's back and captured the water waves in a display of vibrant colors. The battle was a dance between water and plants, each attack met with cunning and speed.

Noland smiled as he watched Golduck try to adapt to Venusaur's tactics:

—Venusaur! Use Sludge Bomb!

A poisonous sphere shot towards Golduck, who had to act fast.

—Golduck! Dodge and use Psychic!

Golduck used its psychic power to deflect the sludge bomb just in time, causing the attack to miss and explode in a purple cloud behind him. The crowd roared at the aquatic Pokémon's skill.

Both trainers were on the brink of exhaustion but were not going to give up. Noland knew he had to take advantage of the weather:

—Venusaur! Use Solar Beam!

The plant Pokémon began absorbing energy from the sun, charging a powerful beam that illuminated the field. James felt the tension rise; this would be a devastating attack if he didn't act quickly.

—Golduck! Use Ice Punch!

With a swift and determined move, Golduck charged towards Venusaur just as it was about to unleash its attack. The impact was monumental; Ice Punch collided with Solar Beam in a brilliant explosion that lit up the entire stadium.

Both Pokémon were pushed back by the force of the clash; Golduck fell to the ground while Venusaur staggered slightly. The crowd erupted in cheers at the intensity of the combat.

With both Pokémon exhausted but determined to keep fighting, Noland decided to go all out:

—Venusaur! Use Frenzy Plant!

Roots began to sprout from the ground, wrapping around Golduck in a devastating attack. James knew he had to act fast if he wanted to prevent his Pokémon from falling.

—Golduck! Use Hyper Beam!

A powerful Hyper Beam shot out just as the roots reached Golduck. The impact was brutal; both attacks collided in a final explosion that shook the entire stadium.

When the dust settled, both Pokémon lay on the ground, weakened but still showing signs of struggle. The crowd fell silent as the referee approached to make his announcement.

—Both trainers have lost their Pokémon! This round is a tie.

The crowd erupted in applause and cheers for the incredible display of skills by both trainers. James took a deep breath as he ran a hand through his sweaty blue hair; it had been an intense and exhausting battle.

Noland adjusted his red cap with a satisfied smile:

—That was amazing —he said while looking at James. Both knew they had given their best effort.

The referee announced a 15-minute break for trainers to rest before the next confrontation. Both trainers retreated to their respective corners of the field.

The atmosphere in the stadium remained charged with tension and excitement after the tie in the previous round. The crowd, still buzzing from the intensity of the battle, watched expectantly for what was about to come next. Amidst cheers and shouts, a medium-sized man stood out among the crowd. His upright posture and demeanor exuded confidence and authority. He wore a brown trench coat that elegantly draped over his shoulders and a hat that shadowed his face, suggesting he was someone important, someone who had influenced James's journey.

As the man nodded approvingly and flashed a small smile, his presence emanated a mix of respect and power. It was Giovanni, the leader of Viridian Gym, who had trained James for some time. Though his face remained hidden, his eyes scrutinized every movement on the field with critical attention, evaluating James's skills.

Behind him stood a sturdier man peeking through the crowd. His light brown hair was slicked back, and his face displayed a friendly expression that contrasted with the seriousness of the atmosphere. He wore a floral-patterned shirt that gave him an easy-going air, but his sunglasses had fallen to the ground while he watched James and Noland's battle in awe.

This was Scott, creator of Battle Frontier, which at this moment was merely an idea in progress. His mind raced as he observed both trainers' prowess; he wondered if he could integrate one or both into his Battle Frontier project. With them on his team—and if he could convince Brandon to join too—he could attract trainers for an exciting new challenge. The idea of gradually including other Frontier Brains filled his mind with possibilities.

Scott imagined what it would be like to see James and Noland face off against top trainers in Battle Frontier, creating a new era of competitions that would revitalize the region. Excitement bubbled within him; he knew he was witnessing something great.

Meanwhile, the referee approached center stage to announce the continuation of combat. The crowd slowly quieted down, eager for his announcement.

—Trainers! —the referee said firmly— It's time to continue battling. Please release your Pokémon!

James took a deep breath, feeling adrenaline course through him once again. He knew he had to give it his all in this decisive round.

—Gengar! —James said.

From out of shadows emerged Gengar, with a mischievous grin and bright eyes filled with malicious energy. The ghost Pokémon positioned itself next to James, ready to face any challenge.

Noland smiled as he took out his own Poké Ball:

—Mismagius! —he exclaimed as he released his ghost Pokémon.

Mismagius appeared with an ethereal and mysterious air, floating gracefully above ground while its eyes shone with determination. The tension between both ghost Pokémon was palpable; they were ready to prove who was best.

The crowd vibrated again with excitement as both trainers prepared for what promised to be an epic battle between Gengar and Mismagius. All eyes were fixed on the field; every move would count in this intense competition.

James ran a hand through his sweaty blue hair again, feeling pressure rise in his chest; he knew he had to trust Gengar and himself to overcome this challenge.

Noland adjusted his red cap with determination; he was resolved to win this round to prove himself as a trainer.

With both Pokémon ready for battle and an expectant crowd watching closely, the referee raised his hand:

—Let the battle begin!

—Gengar! Use Shadow Ball!

A dark sphere formed in Gengar's hands and shot towards Mismagius swiftly; dark energy illuminated as it flew rapidly.

—Mismagius! Use Thunderbolt! —Noland shouted.

The electric bolt shot from Mismagius just in time to intercept Shadow Ball; resulting explosion lit up stadium brightly while both Pokémon staggered slightly from impact.

James smiled; they needed to keep exchanging attacks until they found that perfect opening.

The battle intensified further; both trainers were on edge but neither would give up easily; James knew every opportunity counted:

—Gengar! Use Hypnosis!

With agile movement Gengar sent hypnotic waves toward Mismagius enveloping ghost Pokémon who began blinking slowly struggling against sleepiness.

Noland frowned; he couldn't let Mismagius fall into that state:

—Wake up! Use Psychic!

With monumental effort Mismagius released psychic waves impacting directly against Gengar causing ghost Pokémon stagger while crowd roared at intensity exchange.

James felt adrenaline coursing through him knowing action needed before Noland could gain advantage:
