Chapter 32 - Chapter 30: Arcanine vs Metagross

The atmosphere in the stadium was charged with excitement and anticipation. James, after the intense previous battle, knew it was time to unleash his most loyal companion. With a confident smile, he looked at Gengar.

"Return, Gengar," James said, and his ghost Pokémon sank into the shadows of its trainer, disappearing with a soft whisper.

Arcanine, who had been by James's side all this time, leaped into the battlefield with a powerful roar that resonated among the crowd. Its fur shone under the stadium lights, and its imposing presence made the spectators hold their breath.

Noland smiled at the impending battle. He knew that James had made a decision to accept his proposal.

"You're going to be the first in a long time to make me release this Pokémon!" Noland exclaimed enthusiastically. "He's one of my best friends and the strongest I've trained."

With a determined movement, Noland pulled out a Poké Ball hanging from a hidden collar around his neck. He held it with reverence and spoke softly:

"This time we'll have a worthy rival."

As he released his Pokémon, a large Metagross emerged from inside the Poké Ball. The imposing steel Pokémon positioned itself firmly on the field, its eyes shining with determination.

Arcanine watched Metagross with respect and roared loudly, activating its Intimidate ability. However, Metagross remained unaffected; its Clear Body ability prevented its attack from being lowered. James was surprised to see a Metagross on Noland's team but quickly smiled.

"This is going to be interesting," he murmured to himself while looking at Arcanine. "Get ready!"

Noland nodded, feeling excitement bubbling inside him.

"Let the battle begin!" shouted the referee as he raised his hands.

The stadium vibrated with energy as Arcanine and Metagross prepared for the decisive confrontation. The crowd was on the edge of their seats, eager to see how this intense battle would unfold. The stadium lights illuminated the field, reflecting in the eyes of the Pokémon and their trainers, creating an electrifying atmosphere. James looked at his partner, Arcanine, who was ready to fight with all its heart. Its golden fur shone brightly under the lights, and the determination in its eyes was unbreakable.

"Metagross!" Noland shouted determinedly. "Use Meteor Mash!"

Metagross charged forward, its legs shining with metallic energy. The force of the attack was undeniable; the ground trembled beneath its feet as it launched toward Arcanine. The crowd roared with excitement, and cheers echoed like an endless echo. Each stomp of Metagross against the ground made the stands vibrate, increasing the tension in the air.

"Arcanine! Use Extreme Speed!" ordered James.

With astonishing speed, Arcanine vanished into thin air, dodging Meteor Mash's attack with impressive agility. In the blink of an eye, it appeared right next to Metagross and delivered a quick strike. The impact resonated through the stadium as Metagross staggered slightly from the force of the blow. The crowd erupted in cheers, encouraging their favorite Pokémon.

"That's it!" shouted James. "Now, Arcanine! Use Flamethrower!"

Arcanine inhaled deeply and unleashed a torrent of flames toward Metagross. The flames illuminated the field, creating an impressive visual spectacle that filled the air with scorching heat. The fire struck Metagross, but it resisted the attack with its metallic body, showcasing its incredible resilience. The flames slowly dissipated, leaving a trail of smoke rising into the sky.

Noland smiled confidently at his Pokémon's endurance.

"Metagross! Use Earthquake!"

With a powerful stomp on the ground, Metagross generated seismic waves that rapidly spread toward Arcanine. The earth shook violently as if it were alive; the crowd felt the vibrations in their bodies as Arcanine had to leap to avoid being hit by the devastating attack. With each acrobatic jump, it displayed agility and skill.

"Arcanine! Flamethrower again!" James shouted.

Arcanine launched another torrent of flames toward Metagross, but Noland was prepared to counter.

"Metagross! Use Flash Cannon!"

A bright beam shot out from Metagross just in time to intercept the fiery flames. The resulting explosion lit up the entire stadium and created a cloud of smoke that temporarily covered the field. Spectators watched in awe as both attacks collided in a spectacular explosion.

James knew he had to act quickly before Noland could gain an advantage.

"Arcanine! Dodge and use Close Combat!"

Through the smoke, Arcanine surged forward with a series of quick and precise strikes. Each hit resonated like thunder as it impacted against Metagross's steel body. The crowd erupted in cheers at this display of skill; both trainers were on the brink of exhaustion but refused to give up.

Noland frowned as he watched Arcanine continue attacking:

"Metagross! Use Hammer Arm!"

With a powerful movement, Metagross swung its limb toward Arcanine. It tried to dodge but was struck hard, pushing it backward. The impact echoed throughout the stadium; James felt his heart race as he saw his partner stagger.

However, Arcanine refused to be defeated. With determination in its eyes and a spark of defiance in its heart, it quickly rose and roared while James gave his next command:

"Arcanine! Use Flare Blitz!"

Flames surrounded Arcanine as it charged toward Metagross with unleashed fury. It was as if a volcano were about to erupt; the energy of the attack illuminated the entire field and filled spectators with awe. The crowd roared at this spectacular move.

Metagross braced itself for impact:

"Metagross! Use Meteor Mash!"

Both Pokémon collided in a brilliant explosion that shook the entire stadium. The impact was monumental; both were pushed back by the force of their clash. Spectators felt shockwaves hit them as if they were part of the battle itself.

The crowd held its breath as both Pokémon slowly rose again. Arcanine looked visibly tired but still held determination in its eyes; its fur glowed with an intense radiance despite weariness. Metagross also showed signs of fatigue; both trainers knew this was a crucial moment in their battle.

James felt adrenaline coursing through his veins; he knew he had to give everything in this final exchange:

"Arcanine! Use Outrage!"

With a fierce roar, Arcanine charged forward engulfed in fiery green flames. It was as if every part of it was imbued with fire and determination; each stride resonated with power as it advanced toward Metagross. The attack struck directly against Metagross in an explosion of fire and energy that lit up all of Stadium.

Noland shouted:

"Metagross! Hold on and use Psychic!"

Psychic waves struck Arcanine just as it was mid-attack. Confusion began clouding Fire Pokémon's mind; however, its determination was stronger than any adverse effect. With each heartbeat, it felt its connection with James and knew it couldn't give up now.

With one last monumental effort, Arcanine managed to stay on course:

"Arcanine! Unleash your power!"

With a fierce roar that echoed throughout the stadium, Arcanine launched its final attack against Metagross. Flames burned intensely as they struck against Psychic/Steel Pokémon's body. The resulting explosion lit up all Stadium; when dust settled slowly, Metagross lay on the ground weakened but still showing signs of fighting spirit.

The crowd erupted into deafening cheers while James smiled broadly:

"You did it, Arcanine!"

Noland looked at his fallen partner and then smiled at James:

"That was incredible... I can't believe how strong your Arcanine is," he said respectfully while storing his Poké Ball.

The referee quickly approached to make his final announcement:

"James Morgan wins this round and advances to quarter-finals!"

James smiled upon hearing those words from referee; he had overcome another obstacle on his path towards glory at Indigo Conference.

Noland returned Metagross to its Poké Ball and approached James with a friendly smile:

"Congratulations on your victory," he said extending his hand. "I hope you win this competition so I don't look too bad for losing in eighths."

James let out a soft laugh upon hearing Noland's words while shaking his hand:

"I'll try," he replied sincerely.
