I sat on the floor, my legs drawn up to my chest and my back against the wall of our room, dimly lit by the bedside lamps.
I was struggling to make sense of what had just happened and to understand the chaos.
He stood before me, facing the wall, his hands resting on the table. He turned his head towards me, his coal-black eyes locking onto mine as if to pour torrents of hatred and disgust into my very soul.
His tall, fit form, dishevelled hair, and rumpled clothes made me shudder in fear, and I instinctively edged closer to the wall as he approached. He bent down, placing two fingers beneath my chin, lifting my head until our eyes met. He gazed at me, exhaling in anger, with a smirk forming on his lips that sent a wave of terror down my spine.
I could feel his warm breath on my face. After a few moments, with a sharp motion, he released my chin from the cold grip of his fingers.
I watched him leave the room, tears streaming silently down my face. The sound of his footsteps grew fainter with each passing second as I sat there, dabbing the blood trickling from my forehead with the palm of my hand.
Suddenly, I felt hollow and lifeless inside. I had done everything within my power to make it work with the man I had truly loved and lived for, all my life!
And now it felt as though the fragile thread of our bond, and the love that had once seemed boundless, was slipping through my fingers.
I shut my eyes in anguish and despair, my gaze falling on my wedding ring, which had once been a symbol of love and warmth but now seemed to gleam mockingly—a painful reminder of my failure and loss.
My heart cried out his name, yearning to call him back, but my lips would not comply. I lay on the floor, letting the ache of my heart and soul spill out in the tears that flowed from my eyes, and for the last time, before I succumbed to the weight of my eyelids, I called out to him in a faint whisper, hoping for a response: 'Jade, please…!'
