Chapter 2 - Chapter 2- Not Everyone Has Everything.

Julia's POV

1.5 months later:

It's been a month and a half since I left Jade's house. I won't say it was easy for me to let go of him. Perhaps I haven't completely given up on him or his memories yet. Little things still remind me of him—his thoughts, his voice, and our few but happy memories still linger in my mind.

Despite the love I may still have for him, or perhaps not—I'm not sure—I've made up my mind to stand up for myself and make things work for me. I believe that no one has everything, and even if people seem to have a lot, something is always missing. In my case, I guess it's what they call "LOVE."

I woke up with a restless feeling today, as I had to go to the lawyer's office for the final signature on the divorce papers.

At the lawyer's office :

My wristwatch read 9:45 as I glanced at it, getting out of the cab. The shiny morning sun made my eyes flinch. I made my way into the building and stepped into the lift, pressing the button for the 4th floor.

I entered my lawyer's office as his assistant opened the door. With a nod of his head, my lawyer stood up from his chair and shared a formal handshake.

In front of his desk were two chairs; on one was seated the man whose face made a wave of electricity creep down my back as soon as I saw him.

He was dressed in a black suit with a crisp white shirt underneath. His shoulders were well defined in his coat, and on his left wrist was a silver Rolex, complementing his veiny hands. He sat in the chair with one leg crossed over the other, his shoe pointed towards my chair.

He glanced at me out of the corner of his eyes as I entered and sat beside him. I looked at him for a moment, my eyes searching intently for the slightest sign of restlessness, confusion, or perhaps just a little sorrow.

But my hopes were crushed once more, as all I could sense was anger & disgust in his eyes, until his face took on its familiar, cold, and distant look again. He showed no sign of regret or sorrow as the lawyer asked for his signature on the papers in front of us.

I watched his hand, fighting to hold back the tears ready to pour out, as he gripped the pen tightly in his long fingers, signing 'Jade A. Williams'.

The lawyer asked for my signature.

I couldn't help but look at him. His eyes met mine, and what I saw next was a cruel yet clear sign of how unwanted I had become. With a twisting motion of his right hand, he freed himself from the burden of his wedding ring.

Trying to keep my hands steady, I held the pen and looked at the papers. My vision blurred as tears formed in my eyes. And then, I did what felt like breaking the last string that bound us together. I signed 'Julia Robinson'.

I stood up, attempting to keep my voice from cracking and my hands steady. I shook the lawyer's hand, saying, "Thank you, Mr Jeremy!" I turned and made my way out, my heart too broken to look at him again, even though I knew this might be the last time.
