Chapter 12 - Why Am I With You ? - 5

General Brutus, is a feared and hated military leader known for his brutality and boundless greed. He does not hesitate to use extreme methods to achieve his goals. His greed is equally notorious, as he frequently confiscates wealth and resources from conquered territories, enriching himself at the expense of others.

He also imposes taxes on his territories, exploiting the population and increasing his personal wealth. His insatiable thirst for power and wealth drives him to use any means necessary to achieve his goals. Brutus is known for his lack of compassion and empathy. He cares nothing for the suffering of others and will not hesitate to order the execution of innocents if it serves his interests. His cruelty is legendary, and many consider him a heartless monster.

'But this greedy general was a complete fool, he is responsible for the fall of this planet.'

'AFFIRMATIVE! USER! HISTORICAL DATA CONFIRMS!'

In the near future, General Brutos ruled the UNION base on the planet with an iron fist. He was a leader feared by both his enemies and his own soldiers. The UNION base was a strategic stronghold crucial to maintaining control over the region. However, the fall of the base was caused by an unexpected and devastating event. The destruction of the UNION base marked a turning point in the struggle for control of the planet. General Brutos was largely responsible.

'He seriously thought he could defeat that thing...'

'AFFIRMATIVE!'

'Seriously, I'm not surprised the union has become a powder keg.'

KABUMMM!!

As they crawled, they heard an explosion behind them. Immediately, they ran as fast as they could towards the exit. But then, they heard the screams of monstrous beasts echoing through the tunnel.

John, alarmed, asked. "What's happening?"

He looked back at Viktor, "What did you do?"

"I placed a tape with an activation mine along with colored containers to attract predators like pheromones." Viktor replied smiling.

John, already aware of the plan, urgently asked, fearing what he had done "Which container did you use?"

"It was the red container." Viktor answered.

"Why did you take that container?!" John shouted, mixing panic and anger.

"Why is that a problem?" Confused, Viktor asked.

John explained, almost crying with frustration.

"That bait isn't used to attract creatures for hunting but to repel higher-level creatures. The smell of the pheromones attracts these creatures so we can clear the passages."

"What's wrong with that?" Viktor, now scared, asked.

John responded desperately. "The higher-level creatures are smarter than the lower ones. When they realize they've been tricked, they go into a frenzy due to the chemical compounds in the containers, becoming even more lethal."

Viktor, shocked, asked, "Why does the hunters' guild have this?"

John explained. "This is new. It's being tested in the most violent regions of hostile beasts in the galaxy, like this planet."

The passage fell silent for a moment until Viktor asked.

"What will happen if this spreads through the wind?"

"The entire region will be infested with creatures."

"...."

"...."

"Are you kidding?" Viktor questioned this absurd information.

Atlas spoke in Viktor's mind. 'USER, HUNTER JOHN'S ANALYSIS IS CORRECT.'

'Why doesn't this exist in the future?'

'TESTS SHOWED THAT THE NEW TECHNOLOGY WAS A FAILURE.'

Before Viktor could ask another question, John shouted.

"Why are you standing there? Move faster!" He quickly distanced himself from Viktor, panic evident in his voice.

Without thinking any further, he began to crawl after John.

The ARES Squad, led by Captain Marcus, was facing a monumental challenge. The cave, which initially seemed a safe refuge, had now transformed into a nightmare scene.

The cold and relentless climate made it difficult for the soldiers to move, turning each step into a hard struggle. Additionally, the dangerous high-level beasts, attracted by pheromones, attacked mercilessly, threatening to swallow the entire squad.

"Defensive formation!" shouted Captain Marcus, raising his fist in a commanding gesture.

The soldiers quickly positioned themselves, forming a circle with their weapons pointed outward, ready to face the approaching threat.

The beasts emerged from the shadows, huge and fierce, with eyes shining with fury. They were high-level creatures known for their intelligence and lethality.

They advanced in a swarm, their sharp claws and gleaming teeth ready to attack. The air was thick with tension, and the silence was broken only by the sound of weapons being loaded and soldiers taking deep breaths, preparing for impact.

"Fire at will!" ordered Marcus, his voice firm and resolute.

The soldiers opened fire, their weapons unleashing bursts of energy that illuminated the dark cave. However, the beasts were fast and agile, dodging the shots with sinuous movements. Some were hit and fell, but many others continued to advance, driven by primal fury.

"Captain!" shouted one of the soldiers, rushing to help him. "I'm fine! Focus on the beasts!" replied Marcus, struggling to rise, his face contorted in pain.

As he ARES Squad faced the beasts, the situation became increasingly desperate. The high-level creatures, drawn by pheromones, attacked with relentless ferocity without giving any respite.

Captain Marcus realized they were losing ground rapidly and that the cave no longer offered safety. It was time to make a drastic decision.

"We're going outside!" shouted Marcus, trying to maintain the defensive formation. "Use your special abilities now!" he ordered, knowing it was the only way to contain the advance of the beasts.

The soldiers advanced with their peculiarities using their abilities to create barriers of fire and ice to try to contain the advance of the beasts. Intense flames lit up the cave while walls of ice seemed to block the creatures' attacks.

After much effort in leaving the cave, the squad's morale was lifted by this small victory. However, outside the cave, the beasts were numerous and determined, and their defenses were beginning to give way.

"Captain, we can't hold out much longer!" shouted Ramirez as a beast was sliced in half by Wind.

"Call for extraction transport! We need to get out of here now!" One of the soldiers activated the communicator, sending an emergency signal to the base.

"This is the ARES Squad, requesting immediate extraction! We are under heavy attack and need urgent evacuation!"

While they awaited a response, the squad continued to fight desperately. The beasts, sensing the soldiers' vulnerability, attacked with even greater ferocity.

Captain Marcus, trying to keep morale high, shouted to his men. "Come on, everyone! We're not giving up now! We're getting out of here and going home!" Captain Marcus's voice echoed through the cave, a challenge amidst the chaos.

"Hold the line! The transport is on its way!" he shouted, generating fire arrows with his hands and attacking the approaching beasts.

Finally, a response came through the communicator. "Extraction transport en route. Estimated arrival time five minutes." The voice of the operator was calm and professional, but Marcus knew that every second counted.

"Five minutes? We won't last that long!" one of the soldiers began to complain as he struck a beast with his hardened stone fists.

Anxiety was evident, and Marcus knew he needed to keep calm. "Do your best to hold on!" ordered Marcus, raising his flames toward the beasts and firing at them.

 "Let's move to higher ground!"

Motivated by their captain's words, the soldiers redoubled their efforts. However, the situation remained critical, and every second felt like an eternity. The beasts attacked with ferocity, and the soldiers struggled to maintain their defensive line.

Finally, the sound of approaching engines brought momentary relief. The extraction transport arrived, hovering over the cave entrance. A ramp was lowered, and the soldiers began to retreat toward the vehicle.

"Everyone to the transport, now!" Marcus shouted, covering his men's withdrawal. He knew this was the most critical moment of the mission and that any mistake could be fatal.

The soldiers rushed toward the ramp, firing at the beasts as they fell back. The creatures intensified their attacks upon realizing their escape attempt, but the soldiers managed to hold their defensive line until the last moment.

"Captain, everyone aboard!" shouted one of the soldiers already inside the transport.

Marcus was the last to ascend the ramp, firing one last burst of fire from his hand before entering the vehicle. The ramp was raised, and the extraction transport quickly took off, leaving the beasts behind.

Inside the extraction transport, the atmosphere was heavy. Despite having escaped from the beasts, the ARES Squad was visibly disheartened. The mission had not been completed; they had fled from their duty.Marcus needed to find a way to lift his men's spirits, but for now, he simply sat in silence, watching the landscape below.

The extraction transport flew in silence, leaving the cave and the beasts behind. The ARES Squad was safe, but the mission had been a failure. Marcus needed to find a way to explain what had happened and come up with a solution for the beast problem.

"Captain, the general..." said one of the soldiers, breaking the silence. The general was waiting for him, and Marcus needed to have an explanation for what had happened.

"I know." Marcus replied firmly. The general would not be pleased with the mission's outcome, and he needed to find a way to justify what had transpired.

But his thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the pilot. "Captain, we are being pursued!!" said the pilot, calm yet concerned.

"What?" Marcus rushed to the pilot's cabin, surprised by the news. "What is happening?" he asked the pilot while looking at the navigation instruments.

"Our signals show that we are being chased below us!!!" replied the pilot, pointing to the radar screen.

"Below?" Marcus quickly realized who their pursuers were. "Damn beasts, they are still after us!" he shouted in anger, slamming his fist on the table.

Many of the beasts were frantically pursuing the ARES Squad while others headed back toward the cave. Most of the creatures, however, were starting to lose their sanity, fighting among themselves in a wild battle.

"What's wrong with these beasts?" Marcus asked, looking out the window. "We are miles away; how can they still smell us?"

Inside the transport, the soldiers watched the scene with a mix of relief and concern. The beasts, now in a state of madness, were attacking each other, creating a scene of absolute chãos.

"Captain!!" said one of the soldiers, pointing out the window. "They are destroying themselves."

"But that doesn't change the fact that we are being pursued!!" replied Marcus. "Once we land, we will be ambushed by those beasts. We need to head straight to base! only there do we have enough firepower to deal with them once and for all."

Marcus looked outside and saw the beasts in a frenzied battle. "What happened to that bomb planted in the cave? Don't tell me these creatures won't stop until they get us?"

"We need to inform base!!!" said Marcus, giving the order. "They need to know what's happening here."

"Yes, sir!" said the pilot as he began transmitting the message.

'How am I going to explain this in my report to the general?' thought Marcus, placing one hand on his head.

As the transport moved away from the area, the ARES Squad, even though they were on top, were still being followed by all the beasts that had smelled the pheromones. The mission was not complete, and the beasts continued to pursue them, but what they did not expect was that they would draw the attention of the being that would be the last thing they saw in their lives.

"Finally." John felt hopeful.

"Why are these exits so long?" Viktor complained irritably about the long path he had traveled.on was not complete, and the beasts continued to pursue them, but what they did not expect was that they would draw the attention of the being that would be the last thing they saw in their lives.
