Chapter 1 - Accident

"Aaaaaaahh! This... bro, please drive a little faster! Why are women even allowed to drive cars."

Boom!

Kayden slammed his fist on the armrest next to him. The traffic jam had gotten worse since he left his job as a helper for a coach at the college he went to. He had to get home as soon as possible because his little sister had an appointment for her cancer treatment. Delaying it was not an option as it already took them over half a year to get a slot for the treatment.

When the car in front of him stopped again, he leaned back and closed his eyes for a second. He grew up with his parents and his sister up until he was twelve years of age. Then something between his parents didn't go as planned and they broke off. After their divorce, him and his sister moved to their father for two years in which even though the mood was a little sad, everything went on normally.

They saw their mother almost every day and the relationship between them remained good until one day, during another fight, his father accidentally pushed his mother down the stairs. This led to his imprisonment for twenty years with no possibility of bail. After four years he killed himself. Since then, his life had gone downhill. Trying to take care of his sister, making sure she had a roof over her head, finishing school and getting a job right away, and then going to college with a sister who was diagnosed with cancer, which happened a few years after the incident, he was on the verge of imploding.

Hooooooonk!

"Huh?"

He put his foot on the accelerator. The cars in front of him began to move, while the drivers behind him started cursing him.

'Calm down, buddy. It's not like you're going to get home any faster.'

Almost an hour later he finally arrived at his home.

"Nessa! Are you ready?"

He ran upstairs and saw a weak looking girl with crooks who was giving it her best to make a smile.

"Kayden, you don't have to hurry. I made so-"

"What are you talking about? We have to leave. Now. They will null your appointment. Now hurry up."

"But you must be hungry. You've been working all night."

It was almost 8 o'clock in the morning. He had done a night shift at his job and basically eaten nothing for at least 14 hours.

Grrrrr!

"I- It doesn't matter! I can eat later."

He went to take a shower while Vanessa was packing her bag with everyday utensils.

Fifteen minutes later both of them were sitting in the car. Kayden turned on the engine and started driving towards the hospital.

"Make sure to eat properly. The hospital staff isn't going to give you a hefty meal even though you're a patient."

"Don't worry, brother."

The street they were driving through were bustling with people from all over the city. Workers started opening up stores and the 9-5ers walked to their jobs with stressed faces. Nothing was out of the ordinary up until a crossing came up where Kayden had to move left. The traffic light went from green to yellow and having his sister in mind he barely stopped the car in time.

When the light turned to green again, he put his foot on the gas pedal and speeded to reach the hospital in time. Before that could happen, a truck from left accelerated into his car.

Crash!

A loud crashing sound could be heard. Both of the cars collided while only Kayden's flipped over and landed in the middle of the crossroad. Screams could be heard and immediately people from all over the place came running towards the place.

"Shit! Why did this have to happen now?"

A guy in a long red coat, who was also driving the truck, cursed as he looked to his supervisor.

"Boss, what should we do? If we leave, people will remember the logo and associate the accident with the company."

The man next to him didn't say anything. Ducking down, he pulled out a little box and pressed it open.

Plop.

A little capsule fell into his hand. He looked at it with a sinister smile.

"Give it to him. Make sure he dies."

Without arguing, the subordinate got out of the truck and went to the rolled over car. As people started gathering around, he sped up and acted like he was shocked by what had occurred. Slowly he opened the door of the car, and looked inside. Kayden was bleeding from his head and irrational short breaths could be heard. To his surprise, a girl was next to him which made the situation way worse. He only had one capsule.

'Fuck! What am I supposed to do now?'

Five seconds passing by, he grabbed his face and put the capsule into his mouth.

"My bad. bro. Nothing personal."

"Heyyy! Is everything okay over there?"

He quickly pulled himself out and told the mass around him to call the ambulance while giving a little nod to his boss.

After a couple of minutes an ambulance and a police car arrived. Finishing up the process, they gave the police their ID cards and drove off.

While on their way to the lab, the subordinate asked his boss about the capsule he had to give Kayden.

"It was a failed prototype. 'rEGen47'. This one can regenerate the body through morphing it with a specific gel that contains... 'Hydra'. A water animal that can regenerate its entire body. Well, at least it should regenerate the body but since it's a failure it will kill him."

"I see. There is a problem, though. There was a girl in the car as well. She looked dead but could be knocked out as well."

"Hmm, don't worry. She wasn't driving the car. As long as the driver dies, he won't be able to tell anyone what happened, especially because there is no witness anymore."

He pulled out his phone and called somebody.

"A little problem over here. Check the license plate and get rid of anybody linked to the driver."

With this the problem was solved. Or at least it seemed that way.

...

"What do you mean his injuries have already healed?"

"Doctor, I'm not lying. The injuries are gone for real. He was a complete cripple this morning but now he seems like a new human being."

The doctor was sweating and trying to understand what had happened just now. Nothing came to his mind, though. He had never seen something like this before.

'What in the affirmative action.'

He kept rubbing his chin.

"Whatever. Keep him in this room. Also what happened to the sister?"

"She is in extreme condition. Not only did the car crash break her arms and three ribs but she also has cancer. It seems like she won't be waking up any time soon."

"I will take a look at her myself. This seems very dangerous."

Both the doctor and the nurses left the room.

Tik. Tik.

Liquid from the drip kept filling up. Kayden's body had recovered over time. It almost seemed like nothing ever happened to him. After a couple of hours, his hand moved.

"Aahh..."

He opened up his eyes with a irritated expression. He didn't remember coming here ever before. Or at least that's what he thought until he saw the blood on his arms and his face.

'Wha- Wait what? How am I...?'

He suddenly got a flashback of what had occurred.

'Shit! Vanessa!'

He quickly got out of bed without realising that his body didn't hurt after the accident. When he left the room a nurse tried to stop him from leaving the room but little did he care.

"Where is she? Where is Vanessa?"

"Sir, please! You can't leave the room. Yo-"

"Shut up! Where is my sister?"

"I can't te-"

"Stop."

The head doctor came out of a room and quieted down the situation.

"Young man, these nurses work the entire day to make sure that their patients are fine and here you are causing a ruckus over something they have no power over."

In five seconds he shut down Kayden completely. He knew how to deal with certain patients as things like these happened frequently.

"Now, I know you want to know how your sister is doing so let's take a seat in my office and I'll tell you what is going on."

He gave him a little smile and walked into a room down the corridor. Kayden stood still for a couple of seconds and calmed himself down. That was also when he realised that he was doing fine. His body wasn't feeling any pain nor was he feeling fatigued.

'How?'

He was flabbergasted but decided to go the doctor's office first as he could find answers there.

...

"Vlad, where are the stones?"

A young man with short blonde hair and icy blue eyes was standing in front of his gangs boss.

"Boss, I didn't find them. It seem-"

Slap!

"That's not what I wanted to hear. Answer again."

"I apologize, Boss. We don't have them."

Slap!

"Wrong answer again. Last chance."

Vlad tried to keep his cool but it seemed impossible under these circumstances.

"I apologize again. We don't have the crystals because someone else took them."

The boss looked at them with hyena-like eyes. Veins were popping on his forehead.

"I-"

Bang!

...
