"So... how is Ness- my sister doing?"
The doctor put his arms in a thinking position and looked Kayden deep in the eyes. He waited until his counter started feeling uncomfortable.
"Mr. Light. I don't want to discourage you after this horrible accident but it's not looking good for your sister. If I'm being completely honest, she probably won't survive this."
Silence.
The room went silent once again but now for almost ten minutes. Kayden couldn't bring out a single word. It was as if his brain had stopped working. Barely being able to bring out a word, he looked at the doctor.
"Is... Is there a way..."
"We're trying our best. She is... very resilient to the injuries. Normally a person with this many wounds and cancer would have passed away immediately. She however, is still breathing and the control over it is getting better. I cannot promise anything but let's keep our hopes up."
"Ca- Can I visit her?"
"Only for five minutes. I'll tell the head nurse to bring you there but before that, let me ask you about yourself. How are you doing?"
Kayden looked a little taken aback. He himself had forgotten about his own well being.
"Good. I mean- Well, obviously things are bad but I guess I don't feel too bad. It's almost like I never got into an accident."
"I see. That's great. There is a little problem, though. Or you might say something is off. Your body has healed incredibly fast. There are almost no injuries left if any at all. How did you do that? Do you have a condition that helps you recover faster?"
"Not that I know of. I was also wondering why my body doesn't really hurt."
"Hmm. Well, it's good that you've healed. For now see your sister. I will tell you later for how long the operation is going to go for."
"Thanks."
He stood up and left the room. The doctor stayed in his place for a moment and tried to let go of his doubts. He couldn't grasp the incredibly fast recovery.
'Whatever. More important stuff is up. Got to let go off my suspicions.'
...
Kayden entered the room where his sister was lying in. It was dim and he was not allowed to turn on the lights to see her face. The room was chilly. Usually rooms for patients were a little warmer but this one seemed way colder than that. As he went over to his sisters bed he noticed that there were dozens of cables leading from various places of the room towards her. It was a complete mess.
He put his hand on her arm and looked at her. Tears began to swell up. All memories of suffering and despair started manifesting in him. The years of pain were gathering in his throat region.
".... Nessa..."
His hands were shaking and feelings of regret gathered themselves.
"Why did this happen to you...?"
Without him noticing, his sister slowly opened her eyes.
'Brother...'
She couldn't bring out any words. Her arms were healing at a incredible rate, though. As a bit of time passed, the nurse came in and told Kayden to leave the room.
"Sir, it's time for you to leave. The operation needs preparation."
He looked at her for a last time and left the room. Outside, he stood still for five minutes and then left with red eyes. He needed to find the people who did that to her. There was no way they would get away with this unscathed.
...
When Kayden got to his room, he took off his clothes and looked at his body in the mirror to make sure there were no injuries. There was blood all over his torso and also on his left leg, but no cuts or bruises. He touched all over his body to make sure that he wasn't missing anything but what he noticed was that his skin got a lot softer. Almost like there was lotion on it.
'Hmm, maybe the nurses put something on there to make the skin smoother.'
He went ahead and took a quick shower. Thinking about what he would do next, he glimpsed at his body again and was not sure if he was seeing right. He, who never had seriously trained before was usually in a good shape but not really defined or even muscly. What he was seeing, though, was a defined body with a little more muscle then before.
'Wait a minute. How the fuck?'
He got closer to the mirror and touched his abs.
'Fuck. They're real.'
He had no idea what was going on. First he no injuries and then his body became more defined.
knock knock
"Huh?"
"Excuse me, nurse incoming."
"Ahh, right."
"Mr. Light, you're recovery has been amazing and ev-"
She almost dropped the clothes she was holding. Holding her hand on her mouth, she gasped at the sight of Kayden standing with his upper body exposed. She didn't remember him looking this handsome.
"I- Oh, I'm sorry. I, haha, lost my train of thought."
Kayden raised his eyebrow.
'Why is she looking at me like that? Did she notice that I've gotten more defined?'
"Ahm, well, I brought you some clothes to put on. You should still rest for a while. Even if you've recovered."
"Sure. You can put them over there. Also, when can I leave here?"
"That I don't know but it seems like the doctor will let you go tomorrow or the day after."
"Tomorrow?"
"Yeah, probably it seems. Anyways, I will leave you for now. Have a good rest."
"Thanks."
When she left, Kayden immediately looked at the clock. It was 4 o'clock, so almost eight hours after the accident had occurred. He had no time to lose.
'Tomorrow is too late. I have to find these guys now. What they have done to Nessa is unforgivable.'
His temples were grizzled and veins started to pop out of his head.
'Let's go to the police for now. They will tell me who caused the accident and then I'll go from there.'
...
To arrive at the police station, Kayden had to convince the nurses that he was only going out for a walk and that he would be back soon. Which was technically true as his car was now broken and since he had no money on him for a bus ticket, that was the only way. Luckily his phone survived and was well functioning so he could find the station.
While walking he noticed that the time on the map app said that he would need around twenty minutes to get there by foot. But he arrived there in under ten minutes easily. He didn't even run. It was as if he had gotten faster than before.
'Weird. Was I always this fast? It's as if my body has changed a lot since the accident. Very weird even.'
He could see the building in front of him. It resembled any government building that was in the country. Over the main entrance, there were big letters in white saying 'POLICE STATION'.
Curious about how fast he could run, he did an experiment. From the place he was standing at, it would take him maximum thirteen seconds to run over there since it around a hundred meters away. Allegedly. According to 'Serious Maps'. So if he did now, perhaps he was way faster now. At least that was what he was thinking.
Breathing deep, he took his sprinting stance and counting to three, he dashed to the station.
Zrrrrr!
In three seconds he arrived in front of it. A man was watching the entire scenario from the side and was flabbergasted.
'Woah. It actually worked. I am way faster than before. How though? Wait. Maybe this is one of those situations were where the person who got hit gains some sort of superpower. Wow. That'd be crazy, though I've never heard of this before.'
He went inside the building, not wasting any more time. Inside a woman was sitting in the front desk. Looking at her, he could see that she was a newer recruit who had just gotten the job.
"Excuse me."
"Please, wait a minute, sir."
She didn't look up. While waiting for his turn, he thought about his experiment again and realised that what he just did, was beyond any doubt something nobody had ever done before.
'Like, isn't Busan Gold the fastest one hundred meter sprinter? He took around ten seconds.'
Usually he himself would take thirteen seconds which was pretty decent. He now did it in three seconds.
"What do you mean that you can't erase the file! The boss called you, didn't he?"
"... You see, sir,... we can't-"
Slap!
"Shut the fuck up! Do as you're told before we remove your ass."
"Sir, please wait! I... I'm terribly sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I'll talk to the chief again."
"Don't make me wait. In the matter of fact, I'm leaving and you will give me a call when this is finished."
"Yes, sir."
"Good."
'Hmm? Who was this?'
He looked towards the police lady sitting at the desk but it was as if she didn't even notice people talking.
'What? Where did this come from? There is nobody here? The next office is a couple meters ahead but it's almost as if somebody was talking near me.
