Chapter 119: Shards of the Abyss
The silence that fell in the room was oppressive. The air, heavy moments before with the crushing weight of the Abyss, now felt abnormally still, as if the space itself was holding its breath. A faint hum lingered where the rift had been, like an echo of its existence that refused to fully fade.
Ryu wiped the sweat off his brow. His breathing still was uneven, but he tried to steady it. Voidfang pulsed dimly at his side, a steady ember, a flame refusing to be extinguished. He looked at the shard on his chest. Its light had been reduced to a warm glow, almost gentle, rather than blindingly bright. It had played a great part in what had just occurred-but at what cost?
Kaelith's voice broke the silence. "Ryu, can you stand?" She hunched down next to him, her sharp blue eyes scanning his pale face. There was an edge of concern in her tone though she tried hard to cover that with her typical calmness.
