The cacophony of the Abyssal sentinel shook dust and pebbles from the cavern walls. Its body seemed to lurch forward with incredible speed, and every step creaked the earth.
Ryu held tight to Voidfang, the blade's dark steel humming with each surge of power from the chamber. The shard in his pouch thrashed in a frenetic dance, warning him of what was to come.
"Stay together!" Ryu yelled over the creature's guttural growls.
Kaelith stepped back, her staff emitting a bright glow that bathed the cavern in protective light. "I'll reinforce the barrier to keep its energy contained, but I can't hold it forever!" she warned.
Aris bolted forward, her twin daggers flashing. She flung herself at the guardian's joints, seeking its weak spots. The strikes barely left scratches-the Abyssal energy within the stone-like body of the guardian seeming to absorb the blows.
