Chapter 25 - Champions of the Arena

The roar of the crowd echoed through the floating coliseum as the golden letters "Victory: Team Eclipse" shimmered in the air. Ryu, Aris, and Draven stood amidst the aftermath of battle, their breaths ragged, their bodies battered, but their spirits soaring.

Draven groaned, sprawling out on the ground, his shield lying next to him. "I don't know whether I should be proud or just relieved I didn't fall into that void."

Aris smirked, wiping off a streak of dirt off her cheek. "Relieved, definitely. You were one ice spike away from becoming a memory.

Ryu, still kneeling, clutched the Starbreaker Blade as it dimmed, its energy spent from the final blow. He glanced at his team, their faces painted with exhaustion and victory. "We earned this. No shortcuts. No tricks. Just skill."

Aris offered him a hand, pulling him to his feet. "And a lot of luck. Don't forget that part."

Throughout the arena, The Dawnbringers were organizing. Seraph, with a hand at her side, walked over to them; the rest of her team followed, too. For all the hurt she must have had inside, there was something graceful to her movements, not malice at all to her face.

"That was. impressive," Seraph said, voice steady against the defeat. "Very few teams have pushed us that far. Even fewer can beat us.

Ryu met her gaze, his own steady. "You're an incredible team. If things were different, I'd have wanted to fight alongside you."

She smiled faintly, extending her hand. "Maybe one day. But for now, enjoy your win. You've earned it."

She shook his hand, the silent understanding between them. To her back, Alden nodded respectfully at Draven, and Liora exchanged a small smile with Aris. Even Rael, their healer, managed a weary thumbs-up before the team turned and walked off the stage.

The system chimed again, declaring Team Eclipse as the winner of the Guild Tournament. A portal opened at the center of the arena, revealing a platform loaded with shimmering rewards. Gold coins, rare gear, and the prized Guild Trophy sparkled under the ethereal light.

Draven's eyes went wide as he whistled. "Now that's what I call a payday."

Aris raised an eyebrow. "Try not to drool on it, big guy."

Ryu approached the platform, his eyes fixed on the trophy—a crystalline relic carved with intricate runes, glowing faintly with power. Hefting it felt like a dream, the weight of their victory solidifying in his hands.

The crowd erupted into cheers once more, chanting their team's name. It was a moment of glory, but Ryu's mind was already moving ahead.

"This is just the beginning," he said, his voice quiet but resolute.

Aris tilted her head. "Can't even enjoy the moment, can you?"

Ryu smirked. "I am. But winning this tournament means more than bragging rights. It puts a target on our backs. The Shadow Reapers won't forget this, and neither will anyone else."

Draven groaned, hoisting his shield. "Great. Just when I thought we could take a break.

Aris folded her arms. "He's right, though. The Shadow Reapers are going to come at us harder than ever. And there's still the mystery of what they're really up to."

The portal shimmered again, this time leading back to the guild lobby. Ryu gestured to his team. "Let's head back. We need to regroup and figure out our next move.

It has entered from the portal that the energies from the arena would fade to give away warm, comfortable feelings at home in the guild hall. The non-playable characters cheered to see their arrival and sent greetings back from their own wins.

Ryu puts the trophy in the pedestal centre to shine, now that filled a room of mixed feelings, namely with pride and relief.

Aris leaned against the wall, surveying the room with her acute gaze. "So now, fearless leader, so what?"

Ryu looked down, taking a big breath as the weight of their next steps bore in on him. "Well, now we prepare," he said. "This tournament had been a test, and the real challenges are still ahead. The Shadow Reapers won't stop until they controlled everything, and I ain't letting that happen to me.

Draven clapped a hand on his shoulder, grinning. "With you leading, I don't think they stand a chance."

Ryu smiled faintly. "Let's hope you're right."

As the team started to discuss their plans, a notification appeared in the corner of their vision.

[System Announcement: Major Update Incoming!]

The room went silent as the message unfolded, revealing new content for Eternal Nexus Online.

[New Areas Unlocked: The Abyssal Ruins & The Skyrend Peaks!]

[New Challenges Await: World Bosses, Legendary Quests, and More!]

[A New Threat Looms in the Shadows…]

Ryu narrowed his eyes. "Looks like the game's about to change again."

Aris smirked, her daggers glinting in the light. "Good. I was starting to get bored."

Draven groaned, shaking his head. "You two are impossible."

But despite his complaint, the spark of excitement in his eyes mirrored theirs.

Together, Team Eclipse had defeated the arena. Now they were ready for whatever game, and shadows in that game, came their way.
