Chapter 1 - End of the World

2037 AD.

Jon looked through the glass at the scene behind the ship, a hideous crack appeared on the surface of a planet, endless lava spread up along the cracks in the crust, devouring the oceans and land, the water was vaporized by the high temperature, forming a huge fog wrapped around the surface of the planet.

A light then erupted from within the planet, and in the silent space the entire planet began to shatter, as fragile as a glass ball.

He had a heavy heart and tears in the corners of his eyes.

For that destruction was none other than his home, and the home of all mankind - the planet.

One hour ago.

The place where mankind depended on for survival had been hit directly by a powerful gamma ray from a supernova outburst.

Under the impact of the huge amount of energy, the Earth's atmosphere was instantly destroyed, countless lives died and wailed, and the gamma ray burst altered the magnetic fields of all the planets in the solar system, including the star, the Sun.

The entire solar system became disorganized, and the Earth shifted its orbit and was ripped toward the sun, torn apart by the immense gravitational force.

Today is April 27th.

It was a grand firework that seemed to announce the day of mankind's demise.

Jon was a little breathless.

He wasn't some cutting-edge human executive or a doctor of science, but an engineer in one of the world's top ai companies.

Their ai company had partnered with the planet's famous rocket company to design a giant liquid fuel rocket with a carrying capacity of over 420 tons close to the physical limit.

And before that, he was just conducting the final round of ai debugging on the rocket.

Because this rocket equipped with their company's most advanced ai host, which is the world's first strong artificial intelligence level ai, can realize close to the lowest end of the quantum computer quantum computing speed of digital computing power.

As the core engineer, he had to ensure the stability of the computer software.

And it was at this time that the world came to an end.

There wasn't even any warning, because right now mankind's means of observation can't exceed the speed of light.

And a gamma ray burst is a ray of light!

As the gamma ray burst hit the Earth, all the electronic instruments malfunctioned, erroneously allowing the rocket to complete its ignition, allowing Jon, who was still inside the rocket, to fly out of the Earth and dodge a bullet.

"Am I not, then, the only human who survived?"

Sitting inside the small cabin, Jon huffed and puffed.

He hadn't experienced professional training, and the acceleration from the rocket had caused some problems with his body.

At this moment, the entire hatch lit up, and it seemed to have passed through the gamma ray burst peacefully.

"I hope the electronics are okay."

Jon had turned off the power in an emergency when the gamma rays came in, and wondered if he could save some of it.

He pressed a red start button.

Everything lit up, including the core's display, which was a relief.

He looked at the display and saw that the course showed that the end point was Mars.

The ship had been built to carry people to Mars.

"Hi Ella."

A response rang out from the silent cabin.

"What can I do for you?"

The fact that AI was still working cheered Jon up a bit.

Ella, as the most advanced artificial intelligence of mankind nowadays, was extremely powerful in its own computational power and information reserve, and could be said to be an encyclopedia.

"Do the math, will Earth still be alive?"

Jon still had a little hope that he wasn't alone.

"Unfortunately, Ella has calculated that the probability of life surviving on Earth other than you is 0.0000000000272%."

"And even if any life survives now, you are not capable of rescuing it."

The voice was icy cold, making it even harder for Jon.

"What about in the space station?"

There must still be astronauts on the original space station in Earth's near-Earth orbit.

"Ella for signaling in progress ..."

"No response!"

"No satellites have been detected on the outskirts of the shattered Earth."

"It is predicted that the electronic failure triggered by the gamma rays passing through the Earth has sent all satellites and space stations close to the Earth plummeting towards the ground."

There was no hope.

He was really the only one who survived.

Jon froze for a long, long time, his eyes fading as his mind thought back to his friends and family on Earth.

After an hour or so.

He pursed his dry lips and said feebly, "Ella, analyze the possibility of a habitable Mars."

Now he had nowhere else to go.

Mars, this ideal human colony might become his second home.

However, Ella shot through this idea of his with a merciless reply.

"According to data analysis, the moon will crash into the Earth in 28 years, and the planet will shatter even more, accelerating its fall towards the sun."

"When the fragments of the Earth fall to the surface of the sun, it will trigger a super solar storm."

"This solar storm will sweep through the heliosphere of the entire solar system, and sunspot outbreaks will bring magnetic storms that will once again wreak havoc on electronic equipment."

"In the face of a super solar storm, the surface temperature of Mars will rise to more than 500 degrees Celsius in a short period of time, when the chaotic magnetic field and gravitational system may pull Mars toward the sun, repeating the end of the Earth."

"The solar system is about to undergo an unprecedented reshuffle."

Ella integrated the best and most comprehensive knowledge of mankind, and its analyses had even been cited in the military before.

Jon had to consider new options.

If the entire solar system couldn't stay next.

Then the only thing left to consider was the outside of the solar system.

Then ...

Proxima?

"Generate a set of shipping routes to Proxima."

Proxima b was called Earth's twin, perhaps a habitable planet for life.

"A course has been generated."

"Current ship speed 20.3km\/s, range 4.22 light-years, estimated to take years to reach the planet Beeline."

More than 60,000 years?

Jon froze at the sound of that.

He knew that the planet Bijin was already the closest star system to their solar system, but he didn't expect that it would take such a long time.

Originally, the speed of this ship was supposed to be 13km\/s, because the shockwave from the tearing of the Earth had raised the speed by a level, but it was still too slow for the entire universe.

By then, he was afraid that he might not even be able to leave his ashes behind.

"How much time can be shortened by planning an optimal route?"

This kind of thing couldn't be calculated in one's head, so it was better to ask the AI.

"Two gravitational accelerations can be performed at Jupiter and Neptune, the speed will reach 35.4km\/s, and the estimated voyage time is shortened to years."

It seems like it's only been 10,000 years since mankind developed from the Neolithic era.

Jon felt as if there was no use for him to survive, he could only wait for death.

At this point Ella continued, "Given that humans don't have such a long lifespan, it is recommended that metal be utilized to modify the ship when it reaches the asteroid belt."

Jon asked, "What are your options?"

"Ella is generating scenarios, end of scenario generation ..."
