Alaina's POV
The drive home from the set was a blur. I kept replaying the conversation in my head—Selene's offer and my will to accept it. She had practically laid it all at my feet. It was choose me or choose him. And I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to betray Michael, but how could I turn down the chance to work with someone I had idolized for so long? I didn't have an answer, just a gnawing ache in my stomach.
When I got home, Michael was sitting at the dining table, scrolling through something on his phone. He never waited for me to come back before having dinner; he wouldn't even acknowledge my presence if he saw me. So today, he didn't look up when I entered; the dim light from the chandelier above cast shadows on his face. There was always tension between us, even though neither of us said a word.
